Peacemaker Is Meeting Guy Gardner In Season 2 Of John Cena's DC Show, And Nathan Fillion Explained Why It Will Be A ‘Powder Keg' When They're Together

After watching the Peacemaker Season 2 trailer last week, I immediately found myself asking what's happened to Viola Davis' Amanda Waller since she's no longer in charge of A.R.G.U.S. I'd be lying, however, if I said I wasn't surprised to learn from the preview that Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl and Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord are appearing in this upcoming DC TV show following their debut in James Gunn's Superman. But as Fillion recently discussed, it's going to be a 'powder keg' when Guy and John Cena's Christopher Smith crossed paths.
Fillion briefly discussed his second turn as Earth's bowl-cut Green Lantern while speaking with TVLine, confirming these two characters will definitely not be fans of one another when Peacemaker Season 2 starts airing on the 2025 TV schedule. As he put it:
Yeah, it's clear from their relationship that the two of them do not get along. Not a fan of each other. I wouldn't call them both A-listers by any means, but I think they both consider themselves maybe in their hearts they should be A-listers. I think they have a lot to prove. I think they've got chips on their shoulders. And I think it's just a powder keg when they get together.
As seen in the trailer, Peacemaker meets Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl and Maxwell Lord when he's trying out for the superhero team Lord has put together that also includes Edi Gathegi's Mister Terrific. Unfortunately for Mr. Smith, a faulty microphone results in him hearing the trio be unimpressed with his qualifications and other things not intended for his ears. Guy is seen laughing at the awkwardness the technical difficulty caused, and he's clearly not broken up about not having Peacemaker as his new teammate.

From the way Nathan Fillion is talking, it sounds like we'll see Peacemaker and Guy Gardner together in more than just this one scene. That snippet of footage doesn't scream 'powder keg' to me, so I'm eager to see just how specifically these two brash personalities clash. Like Fillion pointed out, the irony is that Peacemaker and Guy are pretty similar to one another because they both believe they should be more highly thought of among their superhero peers. At least in Guy's case though, he's already on a superhero team, which I'm sure makes him think he's superior to Christopher Smith.
Following our first encounter with Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner in Superman starting July 11, we'll see just how he and Christopher Smith butt heads when Peacemaker Season 2 premieres August 21 on Max. Fillion will also reprise his DCU character next year in HBO's Lanterns opposite Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre's John Stewart.

Why General Hospital's new Michael is already a success in my book

I know some General Hospital fans will say I'm jumping the gun here, but despite Rory Gibson only officially stepping into the role of Michael Corinthos as of May 23, he's already won me over. In fact, I won't even be shocked if Gibson becomes my favorite, and I don't say that lightly, considering how much I respect Chad Duell's tenure. So if you're wondering how I could make such bold proclamations this early, let's start with the subtleties of the way Gibson carries himself in the role. As some General Hospital viewers have noted, Gibson's walk as Michael remarkably resembles the walk of the Dimpled Kingpin himself, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). The storyteller in me can't help but wonder if this was a purposefully orchestrated move on the part of Gibson and the General Hospital team, possibly signaling that this version of Michael will take on more attributes of his father this go-around. I've always said that the Michael character as a whole can be as methodical and vengeful as his father, but he didn't share his dad's willingness to resort to deadly means to get a job done. However, given that Michael has suffered relentless blows to his family thanks to Drew (Cameron Mathison) and almost lost his life thanks most likely to Sidwell (Carlo Rota), perhaps Michael's more dangerous nature has been activated. With Sonny inching closer to retirement and a more 'above-board' lifestyle these days, I think it could be rather entertaining to see Michael pick up the Corinthos mantle to a degree (I would just hope Michael does a better job of protecting his kids from enemies if this proves to be the case). Gibson is also winning me over on General Hospital because of the way he presents Michael as a doting father. Not that Duell was unbelievable as a dad, but Gibson off the bat, has arguably had more impactful scenes with his children, mainly Wiley (Viron Weaver). Heck, Wiley running off the stage into Michael's arms at the end of the 2025 Nurses Ball was one of the highlights of the very dramatic affair. Then, in the General Hospital episode airing on May 27, Michael tucked Wiley into bed, explaining how much he loved his son, and my heartstrings were tugged on a bit. I may not have cried, but I won't pretend as if I weren't moved. Lastly, it's worth noting that despite the "new Michael' not having many interactions with Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Drew yet, I'm already getting the sense that he's ready to give #Drillow all they have coming to them. Considering Drew has seemed to outwit his opponents at every turn lately, even Tracy (Jane Elliot), I'm excited to see Gibson's Michael take down the tawdry couple, especially his uncle. Based on the following preview clip for the episodes airing during the week of May 26, Michael doesn't appear to be in the business of extending grace. Again, also a sign that Michael may become more like his father. All in all, I'm going to have to applaud the powers that be at General Hospital for the decision to cast Gibson. He's a great actor, and if you didn't know that from watching him as Noah on The Young and the Restless, it looks like you'll get to find out watching Gibson's Michael continue making a splash in Port Charles. But as the release of Superman approaches this July, the question echoing through Hollywood isn't whether it cost a lot… it's how much. And the numbers? Let's just say... nobody's really agreeing. At the center of the debate is a document filed in Ohio in 2024 by the film's production team, which put the budget at a whopping $363 million. That number got a lot of people talking, and sparked a pretty blunt response from James Gunn himself, who shot back: 'How in the world do they think they know what our budget is?' As one studio veteran put it: 'When looking at the performance of a film that is one segment of a franchise property, you have to look holistically at the franchise as a whole and remember that each installment augments the overall performance of the prior films and the general IP itself. 'Franchise films drive multiple revenue streams across the entire library including streaming, home entertainment, and global content distribution.' The real value of Superman isn't just in ticket sales, it's in reigniting the brand across platforms. HBO Max, toy aisles, mobile games, comic books, maybe even fast-food tie-ins. If this thing flies, it could lift the whole DC slate with it. So yeah, maybe the budget is $225 million. Maybe it's $363 million. But at the end of the day, can we all agree on one thing? This movie cost a hell of a lot of money, and if it sticks the landing, Warner Bros. is probably going to be just fine with that.
