Disability screening resumes across state after 8-month freeze

Time of Indiaa day ago
Vijayawada: Bringing long-awaited relief to thousands of physically challenged individuals, the state govt has decided to reopen online slots for disability screening under the Software for Assessment of Disabled for Access, Rehabilitation and Employment (SADAREM) from Monday.
The screening process had been on hold for the past eight months under the previous regime, citing certificate verification concerns.
Several thousands of physically disabled people are left in lurch due the delay in opening the slots for screening as they were unable to access any welfare benefits. The NDA govt briefly opened the window after coming into power and suspended it following objections from the senior officials.
The finance department has also escalated a complaint that huge amount is going into the hands of ineligible people in the form of welfare pensions and other benefits due to the possession of certificates.
Then, the state govt has decided to go for complete reverification of all the certificates and also disabilities by withholding the disbursement of pensions. In fact, family members of several people with more than 70-90 percent disability approached the local legislators and senior officials with a request to grant exemption from the reverification for such people on humanitarian grounds.

However, they could do little as finance department is firm on revival of pensions only after completion of the reverification.
Taking the demands from public representatives into consideration, the state govt finally directed the health department to resume screening of disabled people under Sadarem. The screening will be taken up two days a week in all designated hospitals across the state. The screening will continue for next three months.

Texas flood victims were Trump supporters: Pediatrician fired for vile post which she deleted later

Texas pediatrician fired after saying that those who lost their lives in Texas flood were Trump supporters. Houston pediatrician Dr Christina B Propst has been fired for her vile post suggesting that all those who have been killed in the Texas flood, including children, deserved what they got as they were all Trump voters. "May all visitors, children, non-MAGA voters and pets be safe and dry," the pediatrician wrote specifying non-MAGA in her now-deleted message. "Kerr County MAGA voted to gut FEMA. They deny climate change," she added. "May they get what they voted for. Bless their hearts," she wrote. Propst's employer, Blue Fish Pediatrics, initially said the employee had been suspended, before announcing that 'the individual is no longer employed' there. 'As we previously mentioned in our original statement, we strongly condemn the comments that were made in that post. That post does not reflect the values, standards, or mission of Blue Fish Pediatrics,' the company said. — szaafran (@szaafran) The flash flooding on the Guadalupe River in central Texas has killed at least 80 people, with 11 girls and one counselor from Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp, still missing. Texas pediatrician fired for this post on flood. Before the storms, the weather service issued a broad flood watch for parts of south-central Texas, including Kerr County, specifying the possibility of rainfall totals up to 3 inches and isolated amounts of 5 to 7 inches. But for some areas, the actual totals far exceeded those projections. Texas officials blamed the weather service for forecasts Wednesday that underestimated the amount of rain that was coming. Former weather service officials have said that the forecasts were as good as could be expected, given the way the storms escalated and the remarkable levels of rainfall. Some experts questioned whether staffing shortages at the weather service also made it harder for the forecasting agency to coordinate with local emergency managers as floodwaters rose.

85% of north-eastern districts in front runner category in North-Eastern Region District SDG Index 2023-24: NITI Aayog

Mizoram's Hnahthial has emerged as the highest-scoring district in the entire Northeast region with a score of 81.43 while Arunachal Pradesh's Longding is the lowest scoring district in the entire region at 58.71 as per the North-Eastern Region District SDG Index for 2023-24. The second edition of the index, released by NITI Aayog , on Monday shows an overall increase in the proportion of districts in the front runner category to 85% from 62% in the last edition. However, not a single district is in the achievers category. 'This signifies the impact of the national flagship schemes coupled with the localisation efforts of the states and saturation of benefits through initiatives like the Aspirational Districts Programme,' the Aayog said in the report. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search Ads Get Info Undo Significant improvements have been observed in the indicators linked to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) in sectors such as access to clean cooking fuel, housing, electricity, sanitation, drinking water, bank accounts, child and maternal health services, schooling and attendance, birth registration, unmet need for family planning, health insurance, among others. 'This momentum will be key to closing the gap with the national average in the short and medium term and for states to feature among the top states in the long term,' the Aayog said. Live Events In this context, indicator level analysis is crucial for identifying gaps and accelerating progress in the short term and beyond. It would also help in addressing intra-regional and inter-district disparities to ensure that performance is in line with or above the national average. The index, developed by the Aayog collaboratively with the ministry of development of north eastern region, state governments of the north eastern region and UNDP India, covers 15 SDGs and ranks 121 of 131 districts of the region compared to 105 districts compared in the previous edition released in 2021. As per the index, Nagaland exhibited the widest range (15.07 points between its highest and lowest performing districts) indicating the significant intra-state disparity while Sikkim has the narrowest range (5.5 points), showing the most consistent performance across its districts. On the other hand, Tripura has the distinction of having some of the highest-scoring districts with minimum intra-state disparities (6.5 points) while Mizoram and Nagaland have some of the highest-scoring districts but also show significant intra-state variation (ranges of 13.72 and 15.07, respectively). With less than five years remaining to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), expediting focused efforts to ensure inclusive development for all is imperative, the Aayog cautioned. As per the report, the Aayog proposes to institutionalise SDGs in the north-eastern states through the whole of government approach, investment in data infrastructure and capacities, integrating SDG targets into government budget and recognising the role of partnership, including South-South cooperation as a key strategy to accelerate SDG progress.

Hair fall suddenly worse in the rains? Nutritionist shares 5 natural remedies for healthier hair

If you've been noticing more hair strands on your pillow or shower floor lately, you're not imagining things. Hair fall tends to worsen during the monsoon season, and it's not just because of the humidity in the air. Nutritionist Lovneet Batra recently took to social media to explain that monsoon hair fall is very real, and there's actual science behind it. What causes monsoon hair fall? Lovneet Batra shares that our hair goes through natural growth cycles — and during summer, more strands shift into the 'telogen' or resting phase. This means those hairs are ready to fall out, and the shedding usually starts during monsoon. That's why many people suddenly notice more hair loss as soon as the rains begin. Hair loss. This makes the hair weaker and more prone to breakage. Add in the fact that infections and seasonal fevers are common during monsoon — and these illnesses can trigger sudden hair shedding too, something known as telogen effluvium. But there's good news: food can help According to Batra, the right diet can help support your hair from the inside out. Here are some simple, natural foods she recommends for stronger roots and healthier hair this season: Nannari (Indian sarsaparilla) Indian Sarsaparilla. (Pic credit- istock.
