Ludhiana Improvement Trust seeks land for new schemes

(LIT) to the MC was supposed to ease its burden. However, the LIT now struggles to remain relevant. With the trust handing over its remaining residential areas to the municipal corporation, and the MC starting the process of adopting these colonies, the trust faces a struggle for existence.
As of now, except for the
Atal Apartment
project, the LIT has nothing major in terms of development of any area or scheme, in its itinerary. To rectify this, the trust plans to launch a new residential/commercial development scheme, for which its officials have started looking for land.
The LIT administration has initiated efforts to arrange land through land pooling to develop a new commercial/residential scheme. The trust administration has issued a public notice inviting interested holders to give land for such a scheme on the condition that it should either be within MC limits or adjacent to it.
Under the land pooling scheme, a commercial/residential scheme will be developed after taking possession of land. For every acre of land, a plot of about 1,100 sq yards will be allotted to the landholder.
During the tenure of former LIT chairman Raman Balasubramanium, the proposal for a new residential scheme was sent to the government. At the time, the proposal for a new scheme in areas around Hambran Road was discussed but after change of power, the scheme came to a halt.
After taking charge, LIT chairman Tarsem Bhinder has again started looking for land in areas around Sidhwan Canal, Lohara. Now, the trust administration has invited landholders, saying that if they want to cooperate in the development of a new commercial/residential scheme in the city, they should submit their application in a sealed envelope to the LIT chairman's office within 21 days. The process will be taken forward after checking the documents.
LIT chairman Tarsem Bhinder said, "Property holders have been invited to pool land for development of a new scheme. The procedure will be completed after verification of documents and the proposal will be sent to the government. After getting government approval, a new scheme will be launched." He added that they wanted to develop a scheme for residents because no such scheme had been launched by the trust for a long time.

Ludhiana: Over 1.92 lakh property tax returns are yet to be filed by the residents from the year 2013-14. The defaulters still have time until August 15 to settle the pending dues under the one-time settlement (OTS) scheme. Presiding over a meeting of the High Powered Works Purchase Committee (HPWPC) in Panchkula concerning the implementation of various projects in urban local bodies, Saini said that contractors delivering high-quality work should be honoured periodically. 'At the same time, strict action should be taken against agencies or contractors found negligent or performing substandard work,' he said during the meeting in which urban local bodies minister Vipul Goel was also present. The committee approved projects worth approximately ₹342 crore. Through rate negotiations with various bidders, savings of about ₹11.90 crore were achieved. An official spokesperson said projects worth ₹15.30 crore were approved for the development and beautification of road stretches, beautification of parks, and roundabouts under the Divya Nagar Yojana in Karnal municipal corporation. These works will not only provide citizens with improved public spaces but will also enhance their quality of life through a cleaner and more attractive environment. Similarly, development works worth ₹13.92 crore were sanctioned for the dairy complex on Kanheli Road in Rohtak. In addition, projects costing ₹13.50 crore were approved for the redevelopment of the Mata Sheetla Devi shrine complex in Gurugram. The panel also approved projects related to door-to-door garbage collection, segregation, transportation and processing of waste in Narwana municipal council, municipal corporation (MC) Rohtak, MC Yamunanagar, Fatehabad municipal council, MC Hisar, MC Manesar and Tohana municipal council. Another ₹26 crore was approved for processing of municipal solid waste in MC Rohtak and ₹15.28 crore for dealing with legacy waste in Rewari municipal council. The chief minister said that the beautification and solid waste management systems in urban areas should be made more modern, efficient and result-oriented to achieve the goal of clean Haryana – beautiful Haryana at a faster pace. 'For this, accountability should be ensured at every level,' he said.

Pkl set for smooth ride with fresh carpeting of roads
Panchkula: The city is set for a smooth ride with MC gearing up to recarpet its internal roads from next month. The civic body has set aside Rs 20 crore for the project, which aims to cover all sectors under the municipal limits, leaving no internal road unattended. Civic officials said the technical assessment of the roads in all sectors has been completed. Tenders for the project are scheduled to be opened on Aug 13, following which the work will commence in a phased manner. Confirming the development, mayor Kulbhushan Goyal said, "All internal roads will be recarpeted — none will be left out. The entire project is expected to be completed within two to three months." Residents welcomed the move. Mohit Gupta, founder of residents' welfare forum Solution Box, said, "The condition of internal roads varies from sector to sector. Some areas have been awaiting recarpeting for a very long time and are in a pathetic condition." Echoing similar sentiments, SK Nayar, president of Citizens' Welfare Association, said, "Several inner roads are in dire need of repair. The monsoon has only worsened their condition. The main roads were recently transferred to the PMDA from the civic body. Since the defect liability period is over, the tendering process for the main roads was started by the PMDA. Roads including sectors 1/4, 3/4, 4/6 (Dolphin Chowk), 25/26, 17/18, 7/18, the underpass near Gurudwara Koohni Sahib to Mata Mansa Devi Temple, and the sector dumping ground to the new Ghaggar bridge will be recarpeted by PMDA after monsoon. As per the PMDA, out of 47.29km of outer roads under its jurisdiction, Rs 31.92 crore was sanctioned for the special repair of 32 roads covering 25.54km.
