Britain's Got Talent icons Jonathan and Charlotte's life now after split and new careers
Jonathan and Charlotte were an operatic duo who shot to fame on the sixth series of Britain's Got Talent, and now eight years on, we take a look at what happened to the pair
Britain's Got Talent has witnessed a plethora of opera talents in its 18-year history, with Paul Potts and Susan Boyle among the luminaries who shot to fame on the ITV show. Back in 2012, audiences were left gobsmacked as teen opera pair Jonathan and Charlotte took to the stage, prompting Simon Cowell to utter a stunned "Seriously?".
At the ages of 17 and 16, the duo captivated the panel from their very first notes belting out 'The Prayer'. Hitting us with his typical no-nonsense advice, Simon reckoned Jonathan should go solo, fearing that Charlotte could hamper his progress. Brushing off the mogul's remarks, the twosome stuck tight, even flipping their moniker ahead of reaching the tension-soaked live finals on the iconic date of May 12, 2012.
Despite a stellar run, Jonathan and Charlotte had to settle for runner-up spots behind top dogs Ashleigh and pooch Pudsey, a result that had their loyal following up in arms.
On the heels of placing second out of 70,000 acts, an elated Charlotte exclaimed, "Oh my God, we came second out of 70,000 people, it's incredible, it's been amazing", reports Wales Online.
By the next morning, buzz swirled that Simon Cowell was already bargaining to snag Jonathan and Charlotte with a cool £1 million Syco record deal.
September 2012 saw their inaugural album, 'Together', hit shelves, packed with Italian renditions of hits from icons like Elton John, Muse, and Queen.
After serenading Europe on tour and dropping another chart-topper, the musical journey for the duo hit a fork in the road. In February 2014, they called it quits on joint ventures as Sony Classical dangled irresistible solo deals before them.
Singing sensations Jonathan and Charlotte have released a heartfelt statement on their website, reflecting on their incredible journey which began at West Hatch High School in 2006: "We have had the most exciting journey together ever since meeting at West Hatch High School in 2006 and are so happy for each other."
They reminisced about their success as Britain's Got Talent runners-up and best-selling artists: "To come second on BGT and sell over quarter of a million albums was beyond our wildest dreams."
With excitement brimming, they shared news of their solo ventures, expressing gratitude to their fans: "To now be offered our own solo record deals by Sony Classical is the most exciting thing ever and we are thrilled to be going back into the recording studio so soon."
And most importantly, they thanked their loyal support base: "For those that voted for us, bought our CDs and saw us in concert – thank you. We hope to see you soon at our own shows. Love Jonathan and Charlotte."
Moving forward with new adventures, Charlotte continues her passion for performance, dazzling audiences in the realm of musical theatre. She has illuminated the stage in "Carousel in Concert" at The Royal Festival Hall and shone in the original line-up of "Heathers" on the West End.
Charlotte recently captured hearts on TikTok, sharing her whimsical tale from Britain's Got Talent with the viral video captioned: "Simon Cowell hated me but then he got me Kurt Geiger's for xmas."
In the video, she jokes about her resemblance to the renowned Charlotte of 'Jonathan and Charlotte,' wittingly replying "probably because I am" when faced with comparison comments.
Her latest performance took place in Todrick Hall's new sensation "Midnight" earlier in April, where she took to Instagram to disclose her joy: "This show has been one of the most fulfilling and rewarding shows I've ever worked on.
"I've laughed and cried every day, watched the most talented humans create, and been giddy to see what would happen each day." Jonathon is now working on his next album after a tour around the world, as well as performing locally in his home town of Essex.
After the pair split he topped the Classical Artist Album chart with his first solo album, Tenore. In a recent social media post he thanked fans for listening to his music, inspiring him and allowing him to have a singing career. He said: "Your kindness in allowing me to explore all kinds of music and your superlative taste in good tunes has led the way! !".
Recently, Jonathon has been in the headlines for his dramatic weight loss of five stone. Previously admitting to a shortfall in self-discipline, he recently said: "I've still got a lot to lose but I'm making my way. I feel stronger and healthier than I have in 10 years, which is a lot.
"This year I've made an active choice. I've felt I've lacked the discipline a lot. When I was out in America it's fast food everywhere.
"I was in a terrible state in the start of the year and I've been able to claw my way back doing light exercise.
"For a long time I was just experiencing life, letting life live me, trying to find the next pleasure. Taking control of your own life, grabbing the world with your hands, feels amazing."

Amanda Holden 'goes naked' on radio after BGT dress Ofcom complaints
Amanda Holden took to the airwaves on Thursday morning alongside pal Jamie Theakston and appeared to be naked for their breakfast morning show on Heart FM Amanda Holden seemingly shunned any Ofcom complaints by appearing to be naked on air. The Britain's Got Talent judge's outfit on the ITV talent show's finale was criticised by some viewers, but she was clearly unfazed. She appears to have ignored any negative views - and looked to be completely nude on Heart FM's Breakfast Show's live stream. Her appearance even made her co-host Jamie Theakston do a double take. As she sat in her DJ chair on Thursday morning, she said on air: "Good morning, Mr Theakston. It is 6.30am and I've just caught myself on the camera and don't you think I look naked this morning? Sat behind here?" Jamie seemed to stumble in his response, replying: "Do you know what... You are wearing clothes, aren't you?" His comments amused his pal and co-host. She laughed as she said back: "I just looked and went, 'What? Have I forgotten to put my clothes on?'" The camera angle made it look like the 54-year-old had no clothes on, with only a chunky pearl necklace visible. She was, however, also wearing a pale pink strapless dress and was photographed outside of the London studios. As well as Amanda's BGT finale dress complaints following Saturday's show, fellow judge Alesha Dixon's attire was also criticised. The duo, alongside Simon Cowell and Bruno Tonioli, watched on as the public voted for magician Harry Moulding as their winner. In total, the female judges' outfits received 72 complaints to Ofcom. When contacted by the Mirror, Ofcom said they had received the complaints from viewers, who alleged the star's frocks were "too revealing for a family show". Amanda had stunned in her final outfit for the ITV talent competition after vowing to never tone down her fashion choices. It came after she had received a number of criticisms since the series started. She made sure to pull out all the stops for the star-studded finale, opting for a braless, plunging custom-made white silk gown from Saint Hendrix. She wore her hair slicked back into a bun with several bejewelled clips. Alesha meanwhile, turned heads in a sequin-strewn see-through jump suit, which revealed her underwear. It's far from the first time the pair's looks have been complained about on the show. In July 2017, Amanda wore a plunging see-through Julien Macdonald dress. It went on to be the most complained about TV moment of the year. The mum-of-two joked the incident was a 'national crisis' at the time. She teased in Closer magazine: "I'm always asked about the Ofcom complaints, but every outfit on the show is checked before I leave my dressing room, so I'm never worried. I think people should have fun with fashion!" She went on: "I had bits of fish wire underneath my breasts trying to hold that together... It's all quite laughable, but all everyone seems to talk about. It's been called another national crisis – but, oh no, I will not be covered up."

Royal Ascot 2025, explained: Dates, race times, course guide and how to watch
Royal Ascot is British flat racing's most prestigious event and one of the highlights of the summer social season, with 35 races run over five days at the Berkshire racecourse. Aside from the sport, which features eight Group One races such as the Gold Cup, St James's Palace Stakes and Commonwealth Cup, it is a festival of fashion, hospitality and royal patronage. Last year, the King attended all five days bar Wednesday while the Queen was there for the entire showpiece. Royal Ascot is one of racing's most lucrative meetings with more than £10 million in prize money up for grabs. The two biggest prize pots of the week come in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes. When is Royal Ascot? The first day of Royal Ascot is Tuesday, June 17 with the final day of racing on Saturday, June 21. The first race of each day should start at 2.30pm with the last race at 6.15pm, before racegoers shuffle back to Ascot train station or wrestle their way out of one of many car parks. How do I watch it in the UK? Every race of the meeting is being broadcast live on ITV1, with coverage also available on Sky Sports Racing for subscribers. How do I watch in the US? Assisted by racing anchor Nick Luck, NBC's streaming service Peacock offers full coverage of the meeting, as will betting-orientated channel FanDuelTV. How can I buy tickets? Tickets can be booked via the Royal Ascot website. If you want access to the more exclusive Royal Enclosure though, you will need to be a member or a member's guest. Applicants for membership need to be sponsored by two current members as well as pay a £100 joining fee. Members can apply for Royal Enclosure badges from January each year. There are still tickets on general sale though, ranging from £35 for Tuesday access to the Windsor Enclosure to £99 in the Queen Anne Enclosure. Prices rise slightly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On those final three days, there is also the middle-tier option of the Village Enclosure, where attendees can enjoy a post-racing concert until 9pm. Racegoers can also choose to purchase a 'party package' for up to six people, with £116 per person for the Queen Anne Enclosure on Tuesday including two drinks tokens and a race programme. For those who want to take the weight off their feet, there are also a range of 'ticket enhancements' available, such as booking picnic tables in the Queen Anne or access to the Terrace Club. Demand is high for the extra comfort. Course guide Horses have run at Ascot since 1711, when Queen Anne decided the heathland was ideal for 'horses to gallop at full stretch' while out riding. That August, 100 guineas were on offer for the winner of Her Majesty's Plate, open to any horse over the age of six. Remarkably, the race consisted of three heats of four miles, so it is fair to say it was not a test of speed. Today, races at the Royal meeting are run on a mixture of the round course and the straight. The round course is a 14-furlong right-handed track, with a relatively short run-in of just two-and-a-half furlongs meaning it can be difficult to win from off the pace. The shorter races, such as the six-furlong Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, are run along the straight in front of the grandstand.
