Govt agencies, GLCs must return misused public funds
Auditor-General Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi stressed that no public department or organisation will be exempt from action if such leakages are detected.
'Through the Auditor-General's Report Follow-up Committee, we have identified several instances of leakages in federal and state financial statements, which will be recovered.
'We also audit statutory bodies and GLCs. If there are any irregularities, such as uncollected or unreceived revenue, follow-up action will be taken,' she said at the launch of the Accounting Fraud Working Group here today.
Also present was Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
Wan Suraya further said that collaboration with enforcement agencies via the working group would strengthen the role of the National Audit Department, in line with amendments to the Audit Act 1957 (Act 62) passed last year.
She said the establishment of the Accounting Fraud Working Group would help address emerging issues highlighted in the Auditor-General's Report, several of which are already being jointly pursued.
In her speech at the event, Wan Suraya noted that the working group was established to develop more effective fraud risk control mechanisms, enhance early detection capabilities and improve compliance with accounting standards and related laws.
'The findings in the Auditor-General's Report demand firm and coordinated action. Simultaneously, internal controls must be strengthened, supervisory mechanisms improved and accountability reinforced.
'If not addressed efficiently and effectively, recurring weaknesses will persist. Corrective measures must go beyond procedures to include workplace culture, structured monitoring and the development of human capital within the public sector,' she added.

Negri Sembilan records 168 teacher disciplinary cases since 2021
SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan Education Department recorded 168 disciplinary cases involving teachers in the state from 2021 until this year. State Education and Human Capital Committee chairman Datuk Ismail Lasim said Seremban recorded the highest number of cases, with 89, followed by Jempol/Jelebu (36), Tampin (13), Port Dickson and Kuala Pilah, with 11 cases each, and Rembau (eight). "Among the offences were absenteeism, document falsification, financial misconduct, public statements, disciplinary issues, disobedience, criminal acts, political involvement, injuring pupils and sexual harassment. "Follow-up action taken against the teachers involved is in accordance with disciplinary procedures under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993 (P.U.(A)395/1993)," he said during the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly sitting here yesterday. He was responding to a question from Chew Seh Yong (PH–Lobak), who had requested the list of disciplinary issues involving teachers throughout Negri Sembilan from 2021 to the present. Ismail, who is also the assemblyman for Senaling, said disciplinary action is taken based on the type of offence. For serious misconduct, dismissal can be enforced against the teacher involved. In a separate development, the Negri Sembilan State Assembly today picked Lenggeng assemblyman Datuk Mohd Asna Amin as Deputy Speaker of the assembly after his name was the only name submitted for nomination, which was proposed by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. Mohd Asna, 46, is Negri Sembilan Umno Economic Bureau chairman and Seremban Umno vice chief.

MyKom arrives in Sarawak, out to support mainstream media, not against it
KUCHING (Aug 5): Media Komunikasi Nasional (MyKom) has officially expanded its operations here, positioning itself as an alternative media platform that supports and complements mainstream media, rather than competing with it. According to the Prime Minister's political secretary Datuk Azman Abidin, MyKom remains a credible and authoritative source within Malaysia's media and public communication landscape. 'I am confident that although it is alternative, MyKom will be recognised, authoritative, and become a key reference in the realm of news and public communication in the country,' he said at the launch here yesterday. He pointed out that in an era saturated with information and growing demands for timely and accurate communication, the need for impactful messaging at the state and community levels had become more critical than ever. 'The launch of MyKom today is a clear signal that Sarawak is also taking this need seriously. I urge MyKom to move forward with courage and integrity, always anchored by the interests of the people. 'Do not be afraid to be a voice of principle. Do not hesitate to highlight stories from rural communities, stories of everyday people, and those that often go unheard in the mainstream media,' he said. Apart from that, Azman also stressed that the media's influence should be used to unite the people rather than divide, and to educate rather than to provoke. Petronas study awards for 100 top Sabah students

The 2024 SPM school leavers from diverse backgrounds received full sponsorships to pursue studies in chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, marketing and other relevant courses at Universiti Teknologi Petronas as well as top local and international institutions in the UK, Australia, Japan and South Korea. The selection process was conducted rigorously from nearly 9,000 applications nationwide, based on academic excellence, leadership potential and active involvement in extracurricular activities. The sponsorship award ceremony was officiated by Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim M Yahya, representing Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, accompanied by Petronas Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management, Datuk Bacho Pilong. Hajiji thanked the national oil corporation for its continued commitment to developing human capital in Sabah through quality education and skills training programmes. Since its introduction in 2023 through a collaboration between Petronas Floating LNG, the Sabah State Education Department and Yayasan Sabah, some 120 students have benefited from the initiative. Bacho expressed pride in seeing the state's younger generation move forward with confidence and receive recognition for their efforts and achievements.
