Fortnite Death Star live event countdown and start time in your region

Daily Mirror07-06-2025
It's time to take on the Emperor and end the current season of Fortnite with a flourish. A fresh trailer gives players a sneak peek at what awaits them in the live event kicking off later today.
The Fortnite Galactic Battle mini season is nearing its conclusion, with the five-week narrative reaching a dramatic climax in today's Death Star Sabotage live event. Hopefully, you've had the opportunity to command a Star Destroyer because once the event wraps up, there will be a brief pause before the next season and its rumoured superhero theme commences.
On that subject, there has been some uncertainty about which Fortnite season we're currently in, but it appears that the Star Wars crossover isn't numbered and was squeezed between Chapter 6 Season 2 and the forthcoming Chapter 6 Season 3; this is according to leaked key art (@PoketOfficial via @Shiina).
We're set for a superhero theme which seems to align with Fortnite OG Chapter 4's theme (and start time), and there's an anticipated Superman collaboration as well as superhero Battle Pass skins, new POIs, and more. But before we reach that point, we have the Fortnite live event to round off the current season.
Epic Games unveiled a trailer at the SGF 2025 Showcase and followed up with a brief teaser on Twitter today, which you can view below:
The developer revealed that "Space combat (including X-Wings, TIE Fighters and even the dreaded Death Star) is the focus of the upcoming Fortnite event". Additionally, players can earn free and log-in rewards simply by logging in.
With the Death Star Sabotage climax approaching, here are the exact start times for the Fortnite live event in your region:
One hour prior to the event, the Death Star Sabotage tile will become available on the Discover tab. It's recommended to join as early as possible to avoid missing the 15-20 minute Fortnite live event, after which servers will be taken down for the next season update.

Fortnite proximity chat could come to Battle Royale as leakers report internal file shakeup

Fortnite could be set to welcome one of the most controversial features in gaming, as leakers claim that proximity chat is on the way for the battle royale title. Fortnite proximity chat is reportedly on the horizon, with leaks suggesting that Epic Games is gearing up to introduce this feature in Battle Royale. ‌ Fortnite offers a thrilling experience for most players lucky enough to get their hands on it. However, let's face it – for many, it's a highly social affair. Sure, you can go solo, but nothing compares to teaming up with a squad. The game makes group play enticing with easy party joining and coordinated cosmetics available in the shop, like the Fantastic Four range that was released not too long ago. With the addition of Power Rangers and the Shock 'N Awesome Battle Pass, coordinating Outfits is easier than ever. ‌ Playing with mates is crucial, but squad-based games aren't always ideal as they often pair you with strangers you're expected to trust with your victory. Striking the right balance can be tough, especially when Fortnite emphasises cooperative play, particularly in competitive matches. It can be daunting to feel prepared for such a challenge. ‌ However, this dynamic could soon shift, with new claims hinting at the arrival of a certain iconic feature previously seen in other modes. So, the question arises – is Fortnite about to introduce proximity chat? Leakers @Wensoing and @Loolo_WRLD have teamed up on Twitter to suggest that the feature, which allows players to communicate with nearby teammates or enemies, might be coming to Battle Royale. They've inferred this because Epic Games has shifted some files for the Creative Mode proximity chat, a feature present since August 2024 (via @Hypex), potentially paving the way for its inclusion in the Battle Royale mode, where players could switch it on or off as they wish. This would undoubtedly be a game-changing development – if players can directly address their opponents while they're down, it could usher in unprecedented levels of trolling. Players are likely to start goading the 13 year olds they've just knocked out before sending them back to the lobby. It's unclear when this new feature might be launched, but there was a four-month gap between leakers hinting at proximity chat coming to Fortnite Creative (via @Hypex) and its actual introduction, so we might be looking at a similar wait. Alternatively, the feature might just need to be dropped into the core experience for its official debut, so we could see it sooner rather than later. Brace yourselves for some serious ribbing from randoms in your lobby.

NBA 2K25 player spends £24,000 on microtransactions: 'It's not worth it'

A fan has revealed how much he spent on in-game currency in NBA 2K25, as he warns others about following in his footsteps. Free-to-play games have paved the way for predatory microtransactions in a litany of titles, and while it's easy to blame companies for enabling these practices, sometimes you have to turn the mirror on ordinary players. Microtransactions are often associated with skin cosmetics in titles like Fortnite, but there are plenty in full priced games too – especially sports games like EA Sports FC 25, which still uses what are essentially loot boxes for the Ultimate Team mode. These virtual collectible cards are prevalent in other sports games like NBA 2K25, and for one player they've cost him upwards of $32,000. In a video posted on his channel, YouTuber 2KOG breaks down his transaction history in NBA 2K25 over the past year. Within 11 months from September 4, 2024 to August 5, 2025, he claims to have spent $32,831,68 (£24,384) on the basketball sim. As seen in the video, the bulk of these transactions have gone towards virtual in-game currency for MyTeam cards – NBA 2K's equivalent of Ultimate Team – along with season passes. 2KOG isn't proud of this number though, and clarifies he's in an unusual position where he can afford to spend this amount of money. 'Most of you know I have a normal 9-5 type job, I also own my own business,' he said in the clip. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. 'And I do make a little bit of money off of doing these YouTube videos, so my situation is probably a lot different to most people who watch and play the game.' Despite his financial position though, 2KOG warned others from investing this amount of money into a game. 'It's absolutely not worth it,' he added. 'Even if I was breaking even [through YouTube videos], that's still a lot of resources that were put into this.' Incredibly, despite spending over £24,000, he still doesn't have all the cards available in NBA 2K25 , due to the amount of duplicates he's pulled from packs. More Trending 'I should have pretty much every card in the game, and I don't,' he added. 'And all I can do is sit here and think about how much money I've wasted. 'I did create a [YouTube] channel but it paid me a tenth of what I spent. So there's no way anyone can tell me it was worth it.' 2KOG's financial woes have since gone viral on X. At the time of writing, 2KOG's YouTube channel dedicated to NBA 2K25, which he started a year ago, has 3,5000 subscribers. If you need another reason why spending this amount of money on NBA 2K is a waste of time, none of these purchases will carry over to the series' next instalment, NBA 2K26, which is set to come out on September 6, 2025. Instead, they'll all have to be bought again for another £24K+. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter.
