NBA 2K25 player spends £24,000 on microtransactions: 'It's not worth it'

Metroa day ago
A fan has revealed how much he spent on in-game currency in NBA 2K25, as he warns others about following in his footsteps.
Free-to-play games have paved the way for predatory microtransactions in a litany of titles, and while it's easy to blame companies for enabling these practices, sometimes you have to turn the mirror on ordinary players.
Microtransactions are often associated with skin cosmetics in titles like Fortnite, but there are plenty in full priced games too – especially sports games like EA Sports FC 25, which still uses what are essentially loot boxes for the Ultimate Team mode.
These virtual collectible cards are prevalent in other sports games like NBA 2K25, and for one player they've cost him upwards of $32,000.
In a video posted on his channel, YouTuber 2KOG breaks down his transaction history in NBA 2K25 over the past year. Within 11 months from September 4, 2024 to August 5, 2025, he claims to have spent $32,831,68 (£24,384) on the basketball sim.
As seen in the video, the bulk of these transactions have gone towards virtual in-game currency for MyTeam cards – NBA 2K's equivalent of Ultimate Team – along with season passes.
2KOG isn't proud of this number though, and clarifies he's in an unusual position where he can afford to spend this amount of money. 'Most of you know I have a normal 9-5 type job, I also own my own business,' he said in the clip.

'And I do make a little bit of money off of doing these YouTube videos, so my situation is probably a lot different to most people who watch and play the game.'
Despite his financial position though, 2KOG warned others from investing this amount of money into a game. 'It's absolutely not worth it,' he added. 'Even if I was breaking even [through YouTube videos], that's still a lot of resources that were put into this.'
Incredibly, despite spending over £24,000, he still doesn't have all the cards available in NBA 2K25 , due to the amount of duplicates he's pulled from packs. More Trending
'I should have pretty much every card in the game, and I don't,' he added. 'And all I can do is sit here and think about how much money I've wasted.
'I did create a [YouTube] channel but it paid me a tenth of what I spent. So there's no way anyone can tell me it was worth it.'
2KOG's financial woes have since gone viral on X. At the time of writing, 2KOG's YouTube channel dedicated to NBA 2K25, which he started a year ago, has 3,5000 subscribers.
If you need another reason why spending this amount of money on NBA 2K is a waste of time, none of these purchases will carry over to the series' next instalment, NBA 2K26, which is set to come out on September 6, 2025. Instead, they'll all have to be bought again for another £24K+.

Who is George Clarke? Latest Strictly Come Dancing star's unexpected rise to fame

Some BBC viewers will be introduced to TikTok star George Clarke, who hosts the Useless Hotline with Max Balegde, for the first time when he competes on Strictly Come Dancing 2025 George Clarke will be competing on the new series of Strictly Come Dancing after being unveiled as part of the line-up this week. He's the sixth celebrity to be named as a contestant for this year's edition of the BBC show. ‌ The content creator, 25, also known as George Clarkey, said in a statement: "Never thought I'd say this … but I'm doing Strictly! Honestly, I've got no idea what I'm doing but I'm excited to get stuck in ... and potentially fall over a fair bit." ‌ George is best known for his work on social media and as the host of the Useless Hotline podcast, which has more than a 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. On his own, he has more than 2 million followers on his TikTok page alone. ‌ George's TikTok account dates back six years but he has spoken about how one particular series on his page in 2021 led to the biggest increase in followers. It showed him trying to figure out the cause of a "beeping noise" in his garage, with the first of those videos now having 2.4 million views. Speaking about the impact of it, he said in an interview for AwayDays that was released on YouTube earlier this year: "People for some reason just lapped it up." George said that he got 250,000 followers in a week from the first video. ‌ He shared that his parents had been prepared to support him, even before that success, whilst he pursued a career as a content creator after leaving university. He said: "At that point of my life, I don't really know what I was doing." George, who said that he hadn't shared his TikTok page with family initially, recalled his dad finding his account years ago. He said that they then had a conversation about it, which included him receiving the blessing of his parents over it. ‌ In the interview uploaded earlier this year, George said he was told that his parents had noticed he was "doing quite well" on TikTok and recalled his dad saying to him: "We'll happily support you if you keeps going up. Obviously if it starts to tail off you need to finish yourself a job." George said that he filmed the beep series some time after that. His content on the platform now ranges from comedy skits to promotional posts for brands. He also collaborates with fellow content creators like Arthur Hill, Isaac Smith, better known as ItalianBach, and ArthurTV's Arthur Frederick. Since his rise to fame on social media, George has ventured in the podcast industry. He's known for fronting the Useless Hotline with fellow TikTok star Max Balegde, with the pair co-hosting the podcast since it launched in 2022. ‌ George and Max address dilemmas, talk about their lives and interview celebrities on the podcast. Guests in episodes released in recent months having included comedian Katherine Ryan and Celebrity Big Brother 's JoJo Siwa. Earlier this year, George, who has 600,000 subscribers on his own YouTube channel, appeared on the second series of the competition Inside, launched by the Sidemen. The Netflix show invited content creators to take on a series of challenges.

Second Battlefield 6 beta gives you an excuse to revisit with new map and modes

Don't forget: Battlefield 6's beta will open up again very soon and it's bringing new content to justify a return visit. EA's decision to put all its eggs in the Battlefield 6 basket remains a very risky one, but the game's announcement and early multiplayer footage made a strong first impression. That wouldn't have mattered if the open beta, that took place over the weekend, was a dud, but we had a genuinely fun time with it and came away feeling like Battlefield 6 could finally be the Call Of Duty competitor EA clearly wants it to be. We're not the only ones that were impressed, as the beta was pulling in record breaking numbers even during early access. So we're curious to see if the second beta session will prove more popular, especially as it's promising not to just be a repeat of the first one. As a reminder, the second Battlefield 6 beta runs from Thursday, August 14 at 9am BST to Sunday, August 18 at 9am BST and this time there's no early access period. It'll be open to everyone from the get-go. While the second beta will retain all the maps and gameplay modes featured in the first beta, it will also include one new map, called Empire State, and two new modes: Rush and Squad Deathmatch. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. The inclusion of Rush should make long-time fans happy as this is a beloved mode that debuted in the first Battlefield: Bad Company game and has one team trying to arm and destroy targets with explosive charges while another team defends them. It's been popular enough to make frequent appearances throughout the series, but was notably absent in Battlefield 2042, which no doubt contributed to all the many complaints against the game. It's far too early for EA and the various studios working on Battlefield 6 to rest on their laurels, considering the full game isn't out until October 10, but they're bound to be pleased with the reception so far. More Trending Over 9,000 people were queuing to participate in the Steam version of the beta before it even began and while that number has dropped now that it's temporarily ended, SteamDB shows there are still nearly three thousand people patiently waiting for the beta to open up again. Despite Battlefield 6 proving more popular on Steam than Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, Activision allegedly isn't threatened by Battlefield 6, as it claims the company is confident in the performance of this year's entry, already revealed as Black Ops 7. While Black Ops 7 lacks an exact release date, new entries tend to launch in the autumn, so it could very well drop within just a few weeks of Battlefield 6. Mike Ybarra, former president of Activision subsidiary Blizzard Entertainment, thinks differently, however, going so far as to say that Battlefield 6 will 'boot stomp' Call Of Duty this year and the series will be forced to improve in order to compete. English singer cancels concert after 'falling ill' just hours before show

An English singer has been forced to pull the plug on a gig after 'falling ill' just hours before he was due on stage. Rag'n'Bone Man – real name Rory Charles Graham – first rose to fame in 2016 with his single Human, with the album of the same name then becoming the fastest selling debut album by a male in the UK for the decade. Soon after the 40-year-old from Eastbourne was named the British breakthrough act at the Brit Awards and won another Brit for the best British single for his break-out track. He's since released two more albums and while the singer has been performing across Europe over the summer, he's had to cancel his latest show – which had been scheduled tonight in Lithuania. A statement posted on his Instagram today explained: 'Show cancellation today. We're deeply sorry to let you know that today's concert in Kaunas has been cancelled as Rag'n'Bone Man has unfortunately fallen ill. He is currently seeking medical care and we wish him a speedy recovery. 'We know many of you were looking forward to the show and may have travelled or made special plans, we truly appreciate your understanding at this time. 'Rory will be so upset to have to cancel this show and will be working hard to schedule a show in Lithuania soon.' The post was also captioned: 'Today's concert in Kaunas has been cancelled due to Rag'n'Bone Man unfortunately falling ill. For ticket refunds, please contact your ticket distributor/the point of ticket sale from which you purchased.' The musician is next set to perform in Poland at the Bittersweet Festival in Poznań later this week. He was quickly met with messages of support from fans, who wished him a speedy recovery. 'We were about to leave home and drive to Kaunas when I got the email, very sad news but Rory's health is more important. Get better,' Sandra wrote. 'Take care and we're waiting for you,' Zax shared. 'Wishing u a speedy recovery man,' Helena added. In an interview with Clash last year, he spoke about his love of touring. More Trending 'I think I just enjoy doing loads! I take on as much as possible to make this work,' he said. 'It is exhausting… but I love playing live. So, if you have to get up early, do the gruelling parts, then that's just the way it has to be, I guess. 'I've always loved it, and I still love it now – I don't feel any different than I did 10 years ago, to be honest.' Got a story?
