Second Battlefield 6 beta gives you an excuse to revisit with new map and modes
EA's decision to put all its eggs in the Battlefield 6 basket remains a very risky one, but the game's announcement and early multiplayer footage made a strong first impression.
That wouldn't have mattered if the open beta, that took place over the weekend, was a dud, but we had a genuinely fun time with it and came away feeling like Battlefield 6 could finally be the Call Of Duty competitor EA clearly wants it to be.
We're not the only ones that were impressed, as the beta was pulling in record breaking numbers even during early access. So we're curious to see if the second beta session will prove more popular, especially as it's promising not to just be a repeat of the first one.
As a reminder, the second Battlefield 6 beta runs from Thursday, August 14 at 9am BST to Sunday, August 18 at 9am BST and this time there's no early access period. It'll be open to everyone from the get-go.
While the second beta will retain all the maps and gameplay modes featured in the first beta, it will also include one new map, called Empire State, and two new modes: Rush and Squad Deathmatch.

The inclusion of Rush should make long-time fans happy as this is a beloved mode that debuted in the first Battlefield: Bad Company game and has one team trying to arm and destroy targets with explosive charges while another team defends them.
It's been popular enough to make frequent appearances throughout the series, but was notably absent in Battlefield 2042, which no doubt contributed to all the many complaints against the game.
It's far too early for EA and the various studios working on Battlefield 6 to rest on their laurels, considering the full game isn't out until October 10, but they're bound to be pleased with the reception so far. More Trending
Over 9,000 people were queuing to participate in the Steam version of the beta before it even began and while that number has dropped now that it's temporarily ended, SteamDB shows there are still nearly three thousand people patiently waiting for the beta to open up again.
Despite Battlefield 6 proving more popular on Steam than Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, Activision allegedly isn't threatened by Battlefield 6, as it claims the company is confident in the performance of this year's entry, already revealed as Black Ops 7.
While Black Ops 7 lacks an exact release date, new entries tend to launch in the autumn, so it could very well drop within just a few weeks of Battlefield 6.
Mike Ybarra, former president of Activision subsidiary Blizzard Entertainment, thinks differently, however, going so far as to say that Battlefield 6 will 'boot stomp' Call Of Duty this year and the series will be forced to improve in order to compete.

The Amiga to get a major game sequel after nearly 30 years of waiting
Out of nowhere, an Amiga port of a beloved god game has been announced for launch later this year. Although the days of the Amiga are long gone – it celebrated its 40th anniversary just last month – there is still a dedicated and passionate audience for it, even in the 2020s. Aside from the release of the A500 Mini console in 2022, there have been plenty of attempts to revive several franchises associated with the old 16-bit home computer, such as the promising looking reboot of sports game Speedball and new mobile games for James Pond… albeit ones without the original creator's approval. However, the latest Amiga revival is the wildest and most unlikely so far: a new port of 1996's The Settlers 2, specifically made for the Amiga, that brings it to the ancient format 29 years after the original PC version. For context, The Settlers is a still ongoing series of what would now be called city builders but at the time its primary influence was god games such as Peter Molyneux's Populous. The most recent entry was a reboot in 2023, while the first entry in the series debuted on the Amiga in 1993. However, the 1996 sequel, The Settlers 2, skipped the format and only ever launched for PC. So, you can imagine how surprising it is to hear that publisher Ubisoft has chosen now, of all times, to approve of an Amiga port. Although it was probably originally meant to coincide with the 40th anniversary. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. It's set to be the Gold Edition of the game from 1997, which is a re-release of the original that adds more content and gameplay tweaks. Ubisoft itself isn't publishing the port and has instead given permission to German publisher Look Behind You, with pre-orders already available on its website. 'Officially licensed by Ubisoft Entertainment, The Settlers 2 Gold Edition will be available natively for the Amiga starting October 18, 2025,' it reads. Unsurprisingly, Look Behind You is offering multiple versions of the game. The cheapest is a digital-only copy available for €29.90 (about £26) while a physical edition that includes manuals and a world atlas costs €49.90 (about £43). More Trending There was a limited collector's edition going for €99.90 (about £86), that came in a special wooden box featuring 'the iconic castle motif from the first part of The Settlers,' but all 100 copies of it have already sold out. Word of the announcement seems to have only recently reached the dedicated Amiga subreddit, which is naturally thrilled to see The Settlers 2 finally be playable on the hardware. 'All the investment in my Amiga 500+ pistorm setup is finally about to pay off!' cheers Ewaryst. Anxious_Ad781 excitedly writes, 'Ordered! Ordered! Now October can come!', while Who_Me admits the news has them considering pulling their Amiga 500 out of storage. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter. The rudest name ever for a video game was a complete accident
A developer has asked players to give their upcoming Steam game a go, despite it having a very off-putting name. Coming up with a name for your video game is a very important job and one that indie developers, in particular, often aren't very good at – although Nintendo's new Drag x Drive isn't exactly great either. A good, striking name can help a game stand out from the competition and catch the wandering eye of a customer casually browsing the shelves of a shop or a digital storefront. One upcoming Steam game, however, has caught attention in Japan for having an amusingly rude name, but one the studio insists wasn't intentional. The game is called The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles, or just Crazy Hyper Dungeon for short, and is a rougelite dungeon crawler from Italian publisher/developer Fix-a-Bug. We've never heard of it or the studio before but, according to its website, it made waves at last year's Tokyo Game Show and won the 2024 Red Bull Indie Forge, a competition meant to showcase indie productions made in Italy. However it was called something else in Japan, though. As spotted by ugetsutakosu4 on X (as translated by Automaton), Crazy Hyper-Dungeon was translated to Kuso Dungeon, whichmeans… Crap Dungeon. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. — Giorgio Macratore (@Macratore) August 13, 2025 While there's no one-to-one translation for the word 'kuso,' it's often used as a curse word or to describe something as being of poor quality. So, the title could also read as Rubbish Dungeon or S*** Dungeon. Regardless, anyone browsing Steam in Japan will think the game itself is admitting it's not very good. The post in question caught quite a bit of attention and soon reached the game's official Discord, prompting one of the game's programmers, Giorgio Macratore, to issue a response. He said the name would be changed, confirming it as a mistranslation, though admitted he still laughed when he saw what its name had become. More Trending 'I'm fixing it now… but honestly, I'm still laughing,' wrote Macratore, adding, 'Please give our game a try, I'm hoping it's not actually crap.' As for how this could have happened, the most likely answer is that the game's name was machine translated for the Japanese Steam storefront. This would make sense since machine translations were reportedly used for the Japanese localisation of Crazy Hyper-Dungeon's demo at the Tokyo Game Show last year. We've checked the Japanese Steam storefront for ourselves and the name appears to be fixed, as it now sports the correct title. Although this naming mishap may benefit Crazy Hyper-Dungeon since it will have drawn attention to it. Coincidentally, it received a new demo earlier today, ahead of its launch on October 23, so if you're at all interested you can try it out and see if the Kuso Dungeon moniker was undeserving or not. Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 leaks confirm Black Ops 2 maps and no doors
A ton of new rumours have dropped for Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7, ahead of its gameplay reveal at Gamescom next week. Although Black Ops 7 will no doubt be one of the best-selling games of the year, as all Call Of Duty games always are, it does seem like it'll need to work a bit harder than usual to win over players. Not only will it have some real competition for a change, in the form of Battlefield 6, but despite the strong launch of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, the series still lost players faster than previous years. Microsoft and Activision will be debuting a gameplay trailer at Gamescom next week, that could win over lapsed fans, but in the meantime a number of leaks have cropped up, courtesy of a prominent and reliable Call Of Duty insider. TheGhostOfHope has recently made several claims regarding Black Ops 7 on X, including how the game will launch with three remastered maps from 2012's Black Ops 2: Raid, Express, and Hijacked. This would make sense since not only have the more recent Call Of Duty games featured maps from older games, but Black Ops 7 is a direct follow-up to Black Ops 2. Apparently, these will be the only Black Ops 2 maps at launch, but that doesn't necessarily mean Activision won't bring back more through post-launch updates. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. TheGhostOfHope adds that the maps will be more colourful saying they'll be more like the ones seen in Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War than Black Ops 6. If so, this could be in response to some complaints that Black Ops 6's maps are too dark. They also claim that specialist abilities will make a return. These have only ever appeared in Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3's multiplayer and were temporary upgrades such as active camouflage and a grappling hook. The response to this appears more positive than the returning maps, with the X post garnering over 4,000 likes compared to the roughly 2,800 likes for the post about the maps. Specialist abilities return in Black Ops 7. — Hope (@TheGhostOfHope) August 13, 2025 Perhaps the strangest rumour, though, is that the game's 6v6 maps will have no doors. That may sound a bit random, but fans seem elated at the prospect. Doors are unpopular because they slow down your movement and interfere with the game's fast-paced, run and gun playstyle. Plus, they're an audio cue, so it's difficult to catch other players off guard. More Trending Other claims made by TheGhostOfHope include weekly challenges, à la the 2023 Modern Warfare 3; a perk that allows for looping streaks; and the removal of both the Pick 10 system for loadout customisation and the tactical sprint mechanic. One less positive claim is that the new Ground War type mode is 'trash'. They're likely referring to the Skirmish mode that leaked via the Xbox app, though they've heard the returning wingsuit 'is cool.' Even assuming all of this is accurate, apparently none of it will matter to Activision since it apparently believes Call Of Duty 'is too big to fail'. However, some Call Of Duty fans have expressed an interest in jumping ship to Battlefield 6 and even the former president of Activision subsidiary Blizzard Entertainment think's EA's shooter will 'boot stomp Call Of Duty this year.'
