Aug 6 (Reuters) - Airbnb (ABNB.O), opens new tab forecast third-quarter revenue above Wall Street estimates on Wednesday and announced a new share repurchase program worth $6 billion, sending the vacation rentals company's shares up 3.4% after the bell.
Growth of nights booked in the U.S. accelerated each month throughout the quarter ended June, driven by a rise in domestic travel, San Francisco-based Airbnb said, adding that it was encouraged by the trend for the current quarter.
Several travel firms, like United Airlines (UAL.O), opens new tab and Wyndham Hotels (WH.N), opens new tab, saw a recovery in U.S. travel demand after a slowdown in April, when consumers initially pulled back spending due to President Donald Trump's shifting trade policy.
Airbnb's average daily rates, or the average cost per night, in North America rose 3% in the quarter, driven by strong demand for higher-priced listings.
This trend is consistent with other travel companies, including hotel operator Marriott (MAR.O), opens new tab, where bookings for upscale properties and premium offerings helped offset weak demand in the budget segment.
Excluding the impact of foreign exchange, ADR in the second quarter increased 1% and was up across all regions, largely due to price appreciation, the company said.
Nights and seats booked, an updated metric which includes the number of services booked on Airbnb's platform rose 7% in the second quarter, while gross booking value increased 11% to $23.5 billion.
"We had a strong Q2, exceeding expectations across our key metrics," CEO Brian Chesky said in a statement. The company reported quarterly revenue of $3.10 billion, compared with analysts' estimates of $3.04 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Airbnb expects third quarter revenue between $4.02 billion to $4.10 billion, the midpoint of which was higher than analysts' average estimate of $4.05 billion.
However, the company cautioned that despite stronger night bookings in North America, growth could moderate given tougher year-over-year comparisons in the third and fourth quarters.
It expects the implied take rate, or the ratio of revenue to gross bookings, to remain flat in the third quarter.
The travel company posted a per-share profit of $1.03, compared with Wall Street estimates of 93 cents.

Walmart announces major store shakeup set to transform how customers shop

Walmart is taking its show on the road — literally — with a fleet of new mobile stores. The mobile pop-up stores on wheels will be rolling into parks, festivals, and concerts across America and are designed to appeal to Gen Z. Dubbed 'your FYP on wheels,' the pop-up trucks feature Gen Z-friendly themes like Rodeo Dream, K-Pop Era, and Nature Break. It is a nod to TikTok's 'For You Page' (FYP), the first screen users see when they open the app, filled with algorithm-curated videos tailored to their tastes. Inside, shoppers will find giveaways, merch, photo ops, and immersive experiences designed to go viral — while promoting Walmart's brand as younger, cooler, and social media–savvy. The trucks will crisscross the country now through November, popping up at festivals, marathons, parks, and major events in cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, and New York. Scroll down to see the full list. 'Walmart is hitting the road with a fleet of head-turning delivery trucks, packed with experiences to level up what you love,' the chain said in. 'Whatever you're into — we get it, we have it, and we can deliver it. Who knew?' they added. Walmart, the biggest retailer in the US, has been pushing hard into the e-commerce space, even directly competing with Amazon during its Prime Day sales event this year. Thanks to its aggressive push — including running its event for almost a week and extending its discounts in-store — Walmart outperformed Amazon across several key metrics. Spending on soared 24 percent compared to 2024, Bloomberg data showed — six times faster than Prime Day's year‑over‑year growth. Web traffic told a similar story, with Walmart surging 14 percent while Amazon stayed flat, according to Similarweb. However, some of Walmart's digitization efforts have been met with pushback from the brand's loyal customers. Electronic shelf labels — tiny digital price tags that can change in real time — have become particularly unpopular. The technology is designed to save staff time, reduce paper waste, and allow for easier inventory updates but customers fear sneaky price hikes and vanishing deals. Sam's Club, Walmart's membership discount stores, rolled out AI-powered 'Scan & Go' tech earlier this year. The trucks will stop at major music events, marathon festivals and parks across the country The scanners allow shoppers skip the line and walk straight out the door once they're done shopping. The move is controversial because it uses a network of cameras and sensors to track shoppers and their carts. In addition, the checkout-free experience requires all customers to use a smartphone and download the store's app. This could pose a challenge to older shoppers who may struggle with technology. GOP congressman who represents one of the most impoverished districts in PA recently bought a new helicopter

Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Rob Bresnahan, who represents one of the swing state's poorest congressional districts, has been accused of concealing the fact that he recently bought himself a personal helicopter. NOTUS reports that Bresnahan, 35, has not yet listed his 'secret' 2024 Robinson R66 chopper among his financial disclosures, with the model in question retailing for between $1 million and $1.5 million. The site was able to confirm the congressman's acquisition of the aircraft based on information garnered from Federal Aviation Administration records and commercial flight data. NOTUS adds that Bresnahan, a multimillionaire who recently sold control of his family's electrical contracting business, acquired the helicopter late last year and has already used it for dozens of flights, some of which have taken him to New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island. While there is nothing illegal about representatives buying personal aircraft, 'it's incumbent on members of Congress to be transparent about these kinds of things,' said Philip Hensley-Robin, executive director of the government watchdog group Common Cause Pennsylvania. 'We don't know if it's being used for official purposes, campaign purposes – it's a mystery.' Hannah Pope, the congressman's spokesperson, told NOTUS: 'In emergency situations such as downed power lines or washed-out roads, helicopters play a critical role in inspecting infrastructure and identifying areas in need of urgent repair. 'His goal was to work toward a commercial pilot certificate with a rotorcraft-helicopter rating and use the aircraft to provide emergency response and inspection services that help keep seniors warm, hospitals powered, and schools open.' She added, 'Since being elected to Congress, those business plans have been put on hold. No taxpayer or campaign funds were used to purchase the aircraft, and no taxpayer or campaign funds are used to store, operate, or maintain the aircraft.' The Independent has also reached out to Rep. Bresnahan for comment. The congressman represents the Keystone State's 8th District, which ranks second-to-last in median household income, $61,140 as of 2023, according to U.S. Census data. Bresnahan has previously sought to emphasize his everyman credentials, describing a childhood of plowing snow for neighbors and helping out at his parents' bowling alley and grandparents' electrical store in addition to completing his studies and participating in high school ice hockey practice. 'I will fight to protect working-class families in northeastern Pennsylvania and stand with President Trump in opposing gutting Medicaid,' he said in a statement in March. 'My position on this has not and will not change.' He nevertheless voted for Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill,' which the president signed into law on Independence Day and which threatens to cut welfare for millions of Americans, leading to angry scenes at a Scranton town hall earlier this week organized to draw attention to his 'broken vows.' Bresnahan also faced questions in July after allegedly buying shares in defense companies ahead of Trump's strikes on Iran, despite previously pushing to block lawmakers from trading in stocks.
