Maddie's 9-1-1 Nightmare Isn't Over Yet — EP Teases the ‘Psychic Scars' She Still Needs to Overcome
As the great philosopher Papa Roach once said, 'our scars remind us that the past is real.' And for 9-1-1′s Maddie Han, things are about to get very real.
Thursday's episode (ABC, 8/7c) finds Jennifer Love Hewitt's character struggling to return to work as a dispatcher for the first time since being kidnapped by Amber, a near-fatal ordeal neither she nor the audience will ever forget — thanks in part to the big ol' scar on Maddie's throat from when Amber slashed it.

'We're playing like five weeks or something has transpired [since the attack],' showrunner Tim Minear tells TVLine. 'That's stated explicitly in the next episode. Her hair is longer, it's a little bit different.' But the scar? 'That can't go away.'
Indeed, getting that scar reapplied is now going to be part of Hewitt's daily hair-and-makeup routine on set, just as it has been for Maddie's better half.
'I put a piece of rebar through Chimney's head [back in Season 1], and he's got a little scar,' Minear says. 'It was more prominent initially, but yeah, we've been applying that [on Kenneth Choi] for eight years.'
Lessening the appearance of Maddie's scar may become a storyline in the future, but for now, 'she's not talking so much about the physical scar yet,' Minear explains. 'It's more about the emotional scars, the psychic scars she's been left with.'
As revealed in the promo for Thursday's episode, appropriately titled 'Disconnected,' Maddie appears to suffer a panic attack while assisting a caller trapped in a smoky room, clutching her throat as she's seemingly unable to speak.

Of course, Maddie isn't the only one struggling this week. We also spend a considerable amount of time with Eddie in El Paso, where adjusting to his new life becomes complicated when 'Christopher discovers him in an unfamiliar situation,' per the official logline.

Elon Musk and Trump need a breakup lesson from Phoenix's Devin Booker
Did you hear about Book and Kendall breaking up, again? No? I mean, yeah, I know, I almost missed the news myself because there was all that other stuff about Elon and Donald, and their whole grody in-your-face split. Seriously, you're not getting that kind of drama llama from Devin Booker and Kendall Jenner. They're not going all 'Grey's Anatomy' in public or making a big public display or, you know, trashing one another online. Am I right? I mean, he's like a legit basketball star with the Phoenix Suns and she is this total, you know, supermodel, and come on, those kind of celebs know a little something about being classy or whatever. Donald Trump and Elon Musk, though? Woof. I mean, there was Elon saying on X that Donald's 'big beautiful bill' is an 'abomination,' which I think means, like, really terribad awful. Then Donald coming back and saying that 'Elon was 'wearing thin,' I asked him to leave … .' And Elon saying, 'Such an obvious lie. So sad.' And all that online, for reals, in a way that you'd never get from Book or Kendall because they're both brainiacs when it comes to keeping stuff on the down low, not sharing their business. So, we get the scizzle on the Book/Kendall situationship from the mags or TV or some obsessed googlebanger. Donald and Elon, though? Totally out there. Opinion: Elon Musk needs a new target: Arizona congressmen Like when Elon says online, 'Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!' And we're all, you know, gobsmacked. And then they ask Donald if he's talking to Elon and he says, 'You mean the man who has lost his mind?' And then he says, 'I'm not even thinking about Elon. He's got a problem, the poor guy's got a problem.' No wonder some of you didn't hear about Book and Kendall. All that noise! And him and her are not out there acting like a couple of nerd bombers throwing shade at each other all day and night, filling up the hatebook. You know? Book and Kendall could school Donald and Elon on how to be. They could drop some jewels on 'em about showmance. A master class in fameology. Because, you know, unlike the richest man in the world and the president of the United States, the ballplayer and the supermodel — they got class. Reach Montini at Like this column? Emmys Twist: Dept. Q Enters Drama Series Race at 11th Hour, Potentially Upending 2025 Contest (Exclusive)
Did Netflix just throw a grenade into the Emmy race for the second year in a row? TVLine has learned exclusively that Dept. Q, the Matthew Goode-fronted Scottish thriller that dropped May 29, just two days shy of the eligibility cutoff for this year's Emmys, is being submitted in the Drama Series categories. The acclaimed nine-episode mystery from Queen's Gambit auteur Scott Frank enters a crowded field that includes Severance, The Pitt, The White Lotus, The Last of Us and Netflix's own The Diplomat. Adolescence Rises to No. 2 on Netflix's All-Time Top 10, Passing Stranger Things 4 - And There It Will Stay If all of this sounds vaguely familiar it's because just one year ago Netflix similarly sent Emmy handicappers heads' spinning with the late-April release of Baby Reindeer. Richard Gadd's searing, semi-autobiographical dramedy — which appeared on the kudos scene a scant one month before the close of eligibility — went on to essentially sweep Limited Series categories at last September's Emmys. It remains to be seen if a similar fate awaits Dept. Q, which earlier this week hit No. 2 on Netflix's consumer-facing Top 10 chart and boasts an impressive 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes (its critical score stands at a strong 84%). Dept. Q, based on the book series by Danish writer Jussi Adler-Olsen, centers on a cranky Edinburgh detective (played by Good Wife alum Goode) who sets out solve a cold case involving a missing prosecutor (played by Queen's Gambit alum Chloe Pirrie). In addition to possibly playing spoiler in the Outstanding Drama Series contest, Dept. Q is poised to be a contender in the acting races as well. A Netflix rep confirms to TVLine that Goode and Pirrie will be competing in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Lead Actress in a Drama Series categories, respectively. The show's supporting cast — which includes Boardwalk Empire vet Kelly Macdonald and Game of Thrones' Kate Dickie — is equally as formidable. Have you binged ?
