Oasis Croke Park: Liam Gallagher's Fontaines DC feud & rumoured R.E.M. tensions
While there isn't a specific, sustained "feud" between Oasis and other Irish rockstars, there has been recent tension between Liam Gallagher and Fontaines D.C.. In 2024, Oasis rocker Liam hit out at the Irish band after two band members admitted they weren't fussed about the hugely-hyped Oasis reunion tour. Speaking to Studio Brussel after the Oasis tour was announced, guitarist Carlos O'Connell and bassist Conor Deegan III were asked how they were feeling about the news. 'I couldn't really give a s***, to be honest,' O'Connell responded. 'I'm not excited about it either, to be honest,' Deegan agreed. 'Because I just feel like we kind of get caught, in the last year, 2010s, into such a nostalgic thing, that we're forgetting to make new things and I've felt like, what we wanted to do with this record anyway, where we wanted to make our minds look into the future and making new things. 'So for Oasis to reform at this moment, for us, is really annoying.' Liam responded to a fan account who shared an article covering the band's comments, writing: 'F*** them little spunkbubbles I've seen better dressed ROADIES.' Additionally, Oasis had a reported falling out with R.E.M. after a show at Slane Castle in Ireland. In 1995, Oasis played a support slot at Slane Castle for the indie rock superstars and their performance was so well-received that it overshadowed the headliners. The strong reaction from the crowd, combined with some public comments, led to a perception of a feud or rivalry between the two bands. 'So upsetting' - Keith Duffy opens up about Stephen Gately suicide rumours
Keith Duffy has told how upsetting it was that people thought Stephen Gately killed himself. The singer opened up about the impact the Sky documentary: Boyzone: No Matter What had on people when it aired at the beginning of this year. The Boyzlife star, 50, said he was left upset for years when people would say they thought Stephen took his own life. The father-of-two told us: 'I can't believe the amount of people that watched it, not only in Ireland, but around the world. 'Everywhere I've gone, everybody's saying, people that you wouldn't expect corporate people are saying, I watched your documentary, and I watched it all in one night. People just binge watched three episodes. So it was a good watch. It was well shot. It was very honest. 'And for me personally, it was kind of, I suppose, was like a counselling session, it was kind of therapeutic just to be able to voice how it was for us, you know, young boys growing up in the northside of Dublin and on the outside in, it looked very glamorous, and it looked like we were living the dream. But it was tough. And losing Stephen was horrendous.' The Dubliner said he didn't think people understood the real truth behind Stephen's death. The star died at his Spanish holiday home in 2009 from a pulmonary oedema resulting from an undiagnosed heart condition when he was just 33. Keith said: 'Some people unfortunately thought he took his own life, which for me, was so upsetting, because Stephen was at the happiest part of his life. He was really buzzing.' Taoiseach wishes son a 'lifetime of happiness' after engagement news
Taoiseach Micheal Martin has wished his son a 'lifetime of happiness' after he announced his engagement while on holiday with his long term girlfriend. Micheal Jnr has been dating Maryclaire Lynch for the last few years. The son of the Fianna Fail leader announced he had popped the question to his long-term love while on holiday in Montenegro, saying it was 'a successful holiday'. The Taoiseach said he is delighted with the news. In a statement said: 'He wishes them a lifetime of happiness and the very best for the future.' Maryclaire can be seen sporting a gorgeous oval diamond ring informing everyone of their looming nuptials. The backdrop for this life milestone of theirs was the scenic lake in Kotor Bay. Micheal Aodh Martin is a familiar face and name in his own right to Gaelic football fans as he's been Cork's first-choice goalkeeper for years. Despite being off the market, he received attention when he was voting alongside his father in 2018 for his good looks. Given the nickname 'Micheál's hot son,' his father admitted that his son was on the receiving end of 'an awful slagging from his teammates at the time.' Speaking with Doireann Garrihy on the Laughs of Your Life podcast Mr Martin said of the reaction: '(He got) an awful slagging from the teammates at the time. I think it took off because the marriage equality issue was taking off and my assistant came to the polling booth and just took an innocent enough snap and posted it and it went viral. 'He was gone off for the weekend. So, I think he dove for cover in Kerry.' Mr Martin said just by being from Cork, 'you're born with a sense of humour' but 'if you have any notions, they'll take you down to size'.
