Taoiseach wishes son a 'lifetime of happiness' after engagement news
Micheal Jnr has been dating Maryclaire Lynch for the last few years.
The son of the Fianna Fail leader announced he had popped the question to his long-term love while on holiday in Montenegro, saying it was 'a successful holiday'.
The Taoiseach said he is delighted with the news. In a statement said: 'He wishes them a lifetime of happiness and the very best for the future.'
Maryclaire can be seen sporting a gorgeous oval diamond ring informing everyone of their looming nuptials. The backdrop for this life milestone of theirs was the scenic lake in Kotor Bay.
Micheal Aodh Martin is a familiar face and name in his own right to Gaelic football fans as he's been Cork's first-choice goalkeeper for years.
Despite being off the market, he received attention when he was voting alongside his father in 2018 for his good looks.
Given the nickname 'Micheál's hot son,' his father admitted that his son was on the receiving end of 'an awful slagging from his teammates at the time.'
Speaking with Doireann Garrihy on the Laughs of Your Life podcast Mr Martin said of the reaction: '(He got) an awful slagging from the teammates at the time. I think it took off because the marriage equality issue was taking off and my assistant came to the polling booth and just took an innocent enough snap and posted it and it went viral.
'He was gone off for the weekend. So, I think he dove for cover in Kerry.'
Mr Martin said just by being from Cork, 'you're born with a sense of humour' but 'if you have any notions, they'll take you down to size'.

Ambient Orbit: exploring ambient sound in Irish sacred spaces
Peter Curtin, the producer of Ambient Orbit, gives an overview and insight into their upcoming events in Kilkenny, Cork, and Limerick. Ambient Orbit began broadcasting on RTÉ lyric fm in the winter of 2022. Around this time, we were beginning to hear the fruits of music that had been recorded in new and curious ways during the second wave of the pandemic. Artists looking to overcome the logistical challenges of recording in an era of restrictions had innovatively set-up recording spaces outdoors. Suddenly, environmental ambience was an intrinsic part of jazz and electronic music with cicadas transporting us to a back garden in Chicago or resonant bird song bringing us to a leafy park in Berlin. Music welcomed the sound of the natural world and there was a perfect synchronicity to it. My colleague Áine Gallagher and I recognised the potential for occupying this space on RTÉ lyric where field recordings from the Irish landscape could be captured and mixed with ambient music; creating an immersive and meditative experience that would allow listeners to reset and escape the noise of everyday life. Since the first episode on October 10th 2022, the non-presenter led programme - now entering its seventh series this October - has collaborated with field recordists, sound designers and ornithologists such as Seán Ronayne, Tadhg O'Sullivan, Fintan O'Brien and Aoife O'Neill in addition to broadcasting field recordings submitted by listeners. Towards the end of the second series, we explored the idea of bringing the programme to a live setting. It seemed fitting that ancient Irish neolithic sites of mythical and sacred significance would be the setting, and solstice celebrations which mark the Gaelic calendar, would be the occasion. Through sound and music, we would attempt to channel how our ancestors would have celebrated the solstice in ancient times. For the summer solstice in June 2023, we invited musicians Larissa O'Grady (violin), Ryan Hargadon (saxophone) and Rachael Lavelle (vocal) to Lough Gur, the oldest standing stone circle in Ireland. With two directional mics pointing towards the lake and the surrounding woods, the musicians responded live to the unfolding dawn chorus and the rising sun. We have marked every winter and summer solstice since then; visiting the Céide Fields, the Hill of Uisneach and Loughcrew along the way, soundtracked by the unique surrounding environment and music from Dan Walsh, Méabh McKenna, RÓIS, Neil Ó'Lochlainn, Niamh Dalton, Gareth Quinn Redmond, Elaine Howley, David Kitt, Elaine Malone and Clara Webster. The show has also been performed live at Another Love Story, Gleo Festival in Limerick, Open Ear on Sherkin Island and Culture Night 2024 in collaboration with the Douglas Hyde Gallery from Trinity College. On 14th August, Ambient Orbit partners with Kilkenny Arts Festival to broadcast from one of the chambers of Dunmore Cave, which were formed over millions of years. Kate Ellis, Nick Roth, Adam Buttimer and RÓIS will join us and we're excited to hear their experimental sounds reverberate around the historical chambers of the cave. Before returning for a new season on RTÉ lyric fm in October, we will be heading to Cork City on September 10th to broadcast from St Anne's Church, with the Shandon Bells providing the backdrop to our programme in collaboration with Sounds from a Safe Harbour. In this hectic contemporary world of digital distraction, we strive to create a peaceful programme of beautiful sounds and music to help the listener to relax, rewind and focus.

Spain issues urgent Status Red warning as Irish tourists endure brutal 44C heat
Summer holidays are in full swing and thousands of Irish travellers are gearing up to head to Spain's sun-soaked beaches. However those visiting over the coming days are being urged to stay alert as a brutal heatwave has gripped much of the country - including some popular holiday hotspots. Spain's meteorological agency AEMET has issued dozens of weather warnings, including Status Red alerts, ahead of temperatures soaring as high as 44C. The heatwave, which began on Sunday, August 3, is expected to continue at least until Tuesday, August 12, creating dangerous conditions - particularly in inland and southern regions that Irish visitors frequently flock to. According to AEMET, a "stationary synoptic weather pattern" is sustaining a hot, dry air mass over most of Spain and the Canary Islands. Combined with intense summer sunshine, this has pushed temperatures well beyond the usual highs for this time of year. Today maximum temperatures across the peninsular interior are forecast to reach between 37C and 39C, with some areas expected to hit as high as 42C. Inland Basque Country and parts of the Mediterranean basin are also likely to experience temperatures exceeding 40C. The heat will remain blistering through Tuesday, with temperatures on the Mediterranean coast beginning to drop slightly. But in the southwest, the mercury may climb to an alarming 44C in parts of the Guadalquivir valley. There is some uncertainty due to possible widespread afternoon thunderstorms, which could influence daytime temperature peaks. Spain weather warnings (Image: AEMET) Meanwhile, minimum temperatures are forecast to stay very high overnight, rarely dipping below 22C to 25C in southern and eastern areas. Looking ahead, temperatures are signalled to start to ease from Wednesday, particularly along the Cantabrian coast. However, AEMET warns that heatwave conditions will likely persist in southern and northeastern regions due to residual heat and potential thunderstorms. Canary Islands weather warnings (Image: AEMET) Worryingly, AEMET says a new upward trend in temperatures could emerge later in the week, especially across the northern half of Spain. Given these extreme conditions, Irish holidaymakers are advised to take precautions such as staying hydrated, avoiding peak sun hours and monitoring local weather updates. You want to win it. It was probably there, a little bit of hurt from last year, but look, it was 2025. Everyone dreams about winning All-Irelands, so we didn't need any extra motivation either. 'There was disappointment there from last year but we put everything into it this year and thankfully, we came out on the right side today.' Reflecting on her fourth All-Ireland win alongside Ailish O'Reilly and Ann Marie Starr, Donohue added: 'We're playing with Galway for a long time. Yeah, it's unreal. This one is probably one of the sweetest yet.' Dolan and manager Cathal Dolan also spoke to Morrissey at the team banquet, stressing how they were 'written off' and 'always the underdog, never backed by anyone' as they chased the county's fifth All-Ireland title.
