Jharkhand: 2 arrested over Hul Diwas clash

Ranchi, Jun 1 (PTI) Two persons were arrested in Jharkhand's Godda district on Tuesday in connection with a clash between a group of villagers and the police in Sahebganj's Bhognadih during Hul Diwas celebrations on the previous day, a senior officer said.
Kumar said the accused were identified as Sudhir Kumar, a resident of Jamshedpur, and Ganesh Mandal, a resident of Odisha.
The police on Monday fired tear gas shells and baton-charged a group of people protesting the dismantling of a stage allegedly by Sahebganj district administration ahead of an official function to mark 'Hul Diwas' in Bhognadih.
Police had to resort to mild lathi-charge and use tear gas shells as some of the villagers attacked the personnel using bows and arrows, in which some policemen were also injured, an official said.
Bhognadih is the birthplace of tribal icons Sido and Kanhu Murmu, brothers who led the Santhal rebellion against the British rule and local landlords in 1855-56. 'Hul Diwas' is observed on June 30 to commemorate the tribal uprising.
The Godda SP said, 'The accused had been actively moving around Borio, Barhait, and Sahebganj areas in Sahebganj district since June 20, allegedly distributing sarees, dhotis, and money among villagers to incite disturbances on Hul Diwas. An FIR has been lodged against them in Sahebganj. We were subsequently informed of their presence in Godda.' The SP noted that one of the accused is reportedly linked to a senior leader of a political party.

Karnataka: Four held after Hindutva outfit members attacked for breaking into cattle owner's home
Four persons were arrested in Karnataka's Belagavi district on Monday for allegedly assaulting members of a Hindutva group after they reportedly intercepted a vehicle transporting cows and later forcibly entered the home of the cattle's owner, The Indian Express reported. Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled told the newspaper that those who were assaulted were members of the Sri Rama Sene. 'While Sri Rama Sene activists broke the law by barging into a house without permission, some villagers did the same by assaulting them,' Guled said. The police took cognisance of the case after a video of the incident, which took place last week, was shared on social media, PTI reported. The video purportedly shows five men being tied to a tree and attacked by a group. The police said that on June 26, members of the Sri Rama Sene stopped a vehicle, alleging that it was transporting cattle for slaughter. They later took the driver to a police station, where he maintained that the cows were being taken for dairy and taming purposes, The Indian Express reported. The cows were later taken to a cattle shelter. On June 28, members of the outfit allegedly barged into the house of Babasav Ramjan Multani, the cattle owner, after he brought the cows back from the shelter. Only women were reportedly present inside the home at the time. An unidentified police officer told The Indian Express that the villagers mistook the men for thieves and assaulted them. However, Sri Rama Sene leader Vithal Gaddi claimed that five of the outfit's members were attacked when they tried to stop the illegal transportation of cattle. Villagers, meanwhile, have claimed that the assault was unrelated to cattle transport and that the members had allegedly '', PTI reported.

Delhi HC grants relief to 2 accused in Parliament security breach case
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted bail to two individuals accused of breaching Parliament on December 13, 2023, news agency PTI reported. The two accused, Neelam Azad and Mahesh Kumawat, have been granted bail on a personal bond of ₹50,000 each and two sureties of the like amount. A bench of Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar directed the two accused not to give interviews to news outlets or make social media posts related to the incident. The two have been asked to report to their respective police stations every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:00 AM without fail. They have also been prohibited from leaving the Delhi-NCR without obtaining prior permission from the court. The relief to the two comes after the accused challenged a trial court's order rejecting their bail plea. The ruling comes in connection with the intrusion that occurred inside the Lok Sabha chamber during Zero Hour on December 13, 2023. The Parliament breach coincided with the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack. During the intrusion, two accused, namely Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, allegedly jumped from the public gallery into the chamber and released yellow gas from canisters. The two also sloganeered before they were overpowered by some members of parliament (MPs). At the same time, two other accused, Amol Shinde and Neelam Azad, allegedly sprayed colour gas outside Parliament premises and chanted, "tanashahi nahi chalegi (dictatorship won't work)".
