Trackhouse Racing signs Shane van Gisbergen to multiyear extension
The team announced Friday that the Auckland, New Zealand, native will continue 'for years to come.' No further terms were released.
With victories from the pole position at Mexico City, Chicago and Sonoma Raceway, van Gisbergen has secured the fourth seed in the 2025 playoffs with three races remaining in the regular season.
'I feel like Trackhouse Racing is my home,' van Gisbergen, 36, said in a release.
After winning three championships in the Australian-based Supercars series, van Gisbergen was hired by Trackhouse two years ago as part of its Project 91 program to showcase international drivers in NASCAR's premier series.
At the inaugural Chicago Street Race in July 2023, van Gisbergen became the first driver to win in his Cup debut since Johnny Rutherford in 1963.
Van Gisbergen moved to NASCAR last year and made the Xfinity Series playoffs with two victories for Kaulig Racing. He moved up to Cup with Trackhouse this year in the No. 88 Chevrolet and became the winningest foreign-born driver in NASCAR history.
In Sunday's race at Watkins Glen International, van Gisbergen will seek to join Chase Elliott and Jeff Gordon as the only drivers with four consecutive Cup wins on road or street courses.
'We are getting to watch one of the superstars of racing,' Trackhouse Racing founder Justin Marks said in a release. 'What we are asking him to do carries a high degree of difficulty. He's moved to the other side of the world, learned a new form of racing and at times dominated the competition. He's one of the greatest.'
No. 1 Chevy driver Ross Chastain and van Gisbergen are under contract for 2026, but Trackhouse has yet to announce who will drive its third car with Daniel Suarez leaving the No. 99 Chevrolet after the season.
Xfinity Series points leader Connor Zilisch, who has five wins for JR Motorsports, will make his fourth Cup start Sunday for Trackhouse Racing and has been mentioned as a prime candidate to fill Suarez's ride.

Shane van Gisbergen wrecks out of the lead after contact with teammate
The third matchup between teammates Connor Zilisch and Shane van Gisbergen ended in disaster. SVG was blocking aggressively as Zilisch tried to find a way around his JR Motorsports teammate. And with just 18 laps to go, the two drivers clashed. Zilisch moved to the outside of SVG on the run down into Turn 6, but he blew the corner and went extremely wide. As Zilisch tried to get back to the racing surface, there was no room as van Gisbergen was occupying the inside lane. However, Zilisch didn't lift, clipping his teammate, and sending SVG hard into the outside wall at Turn 7. SVG's car lifted off the ground due to the severity of the impact, but he was uninjured. On the radio, Zilisch gave his initial thoughts on the incident. "I don't know what I could have done differently," radioed Zilisch. "He didn't leave me any room to rejoin. "He spun off my nose ... I think he thought I was clear." Van Gisbergen didn't have much to say after being checked and released from the infield care center, telling The CW that he hadn't seen a replay yet. "Not ideal," said van Gisbergen. "Pretty gutted, really. Gutted for the JR Motorsports guys. Our car wasn't great, but we still managed to get ourselves in position and looked great. Pretty average way to end it." Zilisch went on to win the race, but he suffered a scary fall in Victory Lane. There was no immediate word of the extent of any injuries. His father, Jim, posted on Facebook: "Connor is conscious and back to himself and in the infield care center. Off to hospital for further evaluation but is not in any danger." The 19-year-old Zilisch leads the Xfinity Series standings driving for JR Motorsports while on loan from Trackhouse Racing with a planned move to Cup (not yet announced) in 2026. He is scheduled to start 25th in the Cup race Sunday at Watkins Glen in a fourth Trackhouse Racing car. The incident occurred after Zilisch had just won his sixth race of the season when he fell awkwardly after putting one foot on the driver window sill and another on the roof in getting out of his car to celebrate in victory lane.
