An East Lothian family have spoken of their dissapointment after being taken off an EasyJet flight moments before their long-awaited summer holiday.
Emma Drummond, along with her partner and 12-year-old son, were due to fly to Amsterdam on Sunday evening. After boarding the plane, they were instructed to get off with their flight then cancelled.
While they've been refunded for the flight, Emma and her family have now lost out on their holiday as well as the money spent on their hotel in Amsterdam and the ticket price for the Anne Frank House - both of which were not refundable. EasyJet have explained the last minute cancellation, telling Edinburgh Live that it was down to "Air Traffic Control restrictions as a result of adverse weather conditions" which resulted in the crew "reaching their legally regulated operating hours".
The Drummond family, from Musselburgh, would have had to spend over £400 on any other available flights to make their holiday happen, and would have been left with only one full day - so decided to cancel the whole trip. Emma says she's 'spent so much money to see her 12-year-old disappointed'.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Emma said: "We were booked in to the 6.30pm flight to Amsterdam on July 6.
"We boarded the flight, but were then told to disembark 20 minutes later. Now we have lost of hotel money and tickets we booked for Anne Frank's house, which I can't get refunded on.

"We were only going for four days, so now the whole thing has been cancelled. We couldn't move our flight, we were only being offered a refund or vouchers.
"We did check for any other available flights however it would have cost us another £143 each (there was 3 of us so £429) and we wouldn't arrive until 10pm on Monday. Which still means our Anne Frank tickets have gone to waste.
"Also we're due to fly home Wednesday, so would have one full day. That's only on the assumption the flight then would have left with no issues.
"Hotel messaged at 7am and cancelled our room as we hadn't checked in. So we would also need to find another room at my own cost on top of all the flight stuff.

"It's just cost me so much money to see my 12-year-old so disappointed."
An EasyJet spokesperson said: "Flight EZY3303 from Edinburgh to Amsterdam on 6 July was cancelled due to Air Traffic Control restrictions as a result of adverse weather conditions, which resulted in the crew reaching their legally regulated operating hours.
"We did all we could to minimise the impact of the weather disruption on our customers, providing options to rebook or obtain a refund, and have processed a refund for the Drummond family as requested.
"We will be reaching out to the Drummond family to offer support, including providing the documentation needed to make a claim with their insurance provider. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is easyJet's highest priority and while this was outside of our control, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused."

EasyJet served me ROTTEN ham on flight home… I turned green & now airline has been forced into food packaging overhaul

A DAD turned green after being served "rancid" ham covered in mould on an easyJet flight - with the airline subsequently ordering a packaging overhaul. Idriss, 37, bought a Spanish tapas box for around £8 during a flight from Santorini to Gatwick on June 29. 4 4 4 But found the ham was rotting, despite being in date, with Idriss saying he was almost sick - and fears other passengers could be at risk. As a result, the airline has now ordered a food supplier to implement "corrective measures" in the form of an improved packaging seal, The Sun can reveal. Idriss told us: "When I opened up the pack of ham it was absolutely disgusting, in the top corner it was all really mouldy. "It was really awful. It is lucky I didn't eat it because with meat that's gone off you could likely be very sick." However, musician Idriss, from Surrey, did initially accidentally put the rotten meat in his mouth and said it tasted of "sewage". The flight attendant offered a free replacement but Idriss declined, adding: "To be honest, it's put me off ham. I don't want to eat ham at all, it was so grim. "Imagine if I'd have eaten it. With ham, or pig meat you have to be so careful - I could've literally been so ill." He added: "I don't know how it can go off when it's packed in that air tight. "It did smell off, as soon as I opened it I could smell it." After emailing easyJet when he got home, the dad - who spends over £30,000 a year with the airline due to work travel commitments - he was told the issue was caused by "a broken packaging seal". Drunk offshore worker causes carnage on Scotland-bound easyJet flight after partner dumps him In the email, seen by The Sun, Idriss was told: "After reviewing this incident, I can confirm that the mould was caused by a broken packaging seal. "As a result, the supplier is implementing corrective measures by introducing a new packaging format with an improved sealing style. "We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of food safety across our operations and continue to closely monitor feedback related to food safety to ensure that all food supplied to our customers and crew is safe and of good quality. "We apologise that your experience did not meet these expectations." An airline spokesperson told The Sun: "We take food safety onboard very seriously and as this is well below the standards we expect for our customers. "We immediately raised [Idriss'] experience with our supplier who identified this isolated incident was caused by damaged packaging, and have taken steps to ensure this does not happen in future. "We have been in touch with [Idriss'] to apologise and have offered a gesture of goodwill for his experience." Do you know more? Email 4

Edinburgh rower saved by brother after being swept overboard during violent storm

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info An Edinburgh man attempting to row across the Pacific Ocean with his two brothers has told of the horror moment he was washed overboard during a huge storm. Lachlan, Ewan and Jamie, are past the half way point in their attempt to complete the fastest ever non-stop and unsupported row from Peru to Sydney. Lachlan recently told the BBC how he was washed overboard during 40mph winds and 6m waves last week. Luckily, he was attached to his boat by a safety line. He was dragged along behind the vessel before his brother Ewan was able to help him back on board. Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland's Morning programme Lachlan said: "It was pretty scary. There are no second chances out here." The Edinburgh brothers, who previously rowed the Atlantic Ocean in 35 days, have now been tackling the Pacific for more than 90 days, and still have around 2,000 miles to go. Lachlan said being washed overboard was one of the scariest experiences of his life. He was swapping rowing duties with Ewan when it happened on the second night of a storm that raged 36 hours. "Fortunately, I was tethered to the boat. I was trailing behind for a bit and was really disorientated. Ewan helped me to scramble back into the boat." He added: "It is the first time I have been in a boat and felt totally at the mercy of the sea. The boat we have is designed to be tossed upside down and then right itself. "We didn't capsize, but had three knock downs. That's halfway to capsizing and then it goes the right way again." The boat being used by the brothers was built with the help of experts with technology used by Formula 1 teams. Last month Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg told the brothers their Pacific Ocean rowing record attempt should be made into a film. He has spoken twice to the brothers during their challenge by satellite phone. Wahlberg was made aware of the record attempt by his personal assistant, who has a friend who met Jamie at a wedding he was playing bagpipes at. The brothers are using the challenge to try to raise £1m for clean water projects in Madagascar.

If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more This March, easyJet launched their longest ever flight path from England: a six-hour, 2,400 mile flight between London, Gatwick and Sal, one of Cape Verde's 10 islands on the west coast of Africa. But despite its extended length, this new route is as affordable as many of easyJet's European destinations: prices start at just £113 one-way. The catch? The flight is carried out by the same planes that fly short-haul - meaning passengers are without in-flight entertainment, WiFi or even power sockets during these six hours. Wanting to find out whether the azure waters and marine life of this Sub-Saharan spot really are worth the journey, I braved the long-haul budget flight myself last week. Here's everything I took onboard to keep myself entertained and comfortable at 30,000 feet. MyHalos 100% Blackout Sleep Mask This blackout eyemask has seriously changed the game for me when it comes to sleeping - whether I'm flying halfway across the world, or just sleeping at home! With soft fabric suitable for dry eyes and a memory foam cushioning, it's the easiest way to block out the world and catch forty winks while 30,000ft in the air. £9.99 Shop Alpine SleepDeep There's nothing worse than getting stuck on a long-haul flight with a screaming baby, or a rowdy group of 'lads on tour'. These oval-shaped earplugs help to block out any surrounding noise, so you can sleep peacefully all the way to your destination. They stay firmly in place however you sleep, and are guaranteed 100 uses. £11.00 Shop MyTravelPal 20W Worldwide Travel Adaptor with USB C A travel adapter is an absolute must if you're going abroad. It fits any plug sockets around the world, and also has two USB ports, a slot for USB-C cables, and built-in USB-C cable, so you can charge five different devices at the same time. £23.99 Shop Owala FreeSip Bottle I've always got my water bottle handy, but I'm especially sure to have a well-sized one on a long-haul flight. I love this Owala FreeSip bottle, which comes in a whole host of colours. It has a straw, too, so there are no dangers of turbulence-induced spillages! £23-36.99 Shop Anker Nano Power Bank Being an EasyJet plane, there were no plug sockets to use on my journey to Sal. This Anker Power Bank was a game-changer - and it's perfectly pocket-sized, too! £19.98 Shop EarFun Wave Pro Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones As a music lover, a six-hour flight is an unbeatable opportunity to catch up on all the best new albums, totally uninterrupted. These over-the-head headphones are my go-to: they're comfortable, great value for money andgreat for noise cancelling, too. £59.99 Shop Amazon Kindle While I love read paperbooks, there's no denying that a Kindle is a must on holiday. Plus, it conceals the more trashy books I indulge in on holiday. Lightweight and with a remarkably good battery life, I can always rely on my kindle to help while away the hours of a long-haul flight. £94.99 Shop GYMSHARK OVERSIZED HOODIE No matter the temperature on the ground, I always seem to get cold under the blast of plane aircon. This Gymshark hoodie is my favourite for flights, and proved particularly handy for snuggling up and snoozing all the way to Sal. . £50 Shop TRTL TRAVEL PILLOW I'm very grateful that I can fall asleep on planes fairly easily - but this TRTL neck pillow was a serious level up when it came to my airborne naps.
