All-party delegation slams Pak for promoting its army chief

Hindustan Times7 days ago

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, who is leading one of the seven all-party delegations as part of India's diplomatic outreach, on Tuesday took a swipe at Pakistan's decision to promote its chief of army staff Asim Munir as Field Marshal, while Congress MP Shashi Tharoor-led group in Guyana's National Assembly conveyed India's message against terrorism.
Former Union minister MJ Akbar, who is part of the Prasad-led delegation that is touring six European countries, asserted India's clear and thought-through 'no first use' doctrine on nuclear weapons.
'Pakistan is a military state, it is no longer a civilian state. And a military state has a vested interest in conflict because conflict justifies its presence… now it sometimes thinks it can provide a nuclear shelter to terrorists. The Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) has made it very clear that there can be no nuclear blackmail,' Akbar said in Paris.
The delegation met the members of Parliament in the French National Assembly led by Thierry Tesson, the president of the India France Friendship group.
Hitting out a Pakistan, Prasad said: 'The most hilarious aspect was that the general whose forces were defeated at the hands of India decisively was promoted to Field Marshal. This is state of denial.'
Munir became only the second army officer in Pakistan's history after Ayub Khan to be elevated to Field Marshal.
'We have not come to Paris and meeting you in happier times. But we have to come to convey some straight message. Terrorism is not India-centric, terrorism is now a global phenomenon. In the majority of the cases, terrorists, their patrons, and the terror groups based in Pakistan have direct or indirect involvement. Today, there are 52 designated terrorists by UN,' Prasad said while talking to French journalists.
'The distinction between the state of Pakistan and terrorism has withered away. Terrorism as an instrument of state policy is a part of the military state of Pakistan,' the BJP MP added.
In Guyana, Congress MP Tharoor said the delegation's primary objective was to raise awareness about India's stance on terrorism and recent events in the subcontinent.
'Asked for evidence of Pakistani complicity in the #PahalgamTerroristAttack, I pointed to the claims of The Resistance Front, a known frontal organ of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, and the attendance of uniformed Pakistani military and police personnel at a terrorist's funeral — with picture!'
The Tharoor-led delegation will be in Panama from May 27-29.
The delegation led by JD(U) lawmaker Sanjay Jha called on Sim Ann, senior minister of state for foreign affairs and home affairs in the government of Singapore. Senior minister of state Janil Puthucheary and local MPs Vikram Nair and Saktiandi Supaat were also present.
Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was admitted to a hospital in Kuwait. 'He is stable, under medical supervision, and will be undergoing some tests and procedures. His contributions to the meetings in Bahrain and Kuwait were highly impactful, and he is disappointed at being bedridden. We will deeply miss his presence in Saudi Arabia and Algeria,' delegation head and BJP MP Baijayant Panda said in a post on X.
Indian delegations are travelling to 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community on Pakistan's designs and India's response to terror after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
India carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7 under Operation Sindoor, following which Pakistan attempted to attack the Indian military bases over the next three days. The Indian side responded strongly to the Pakistani actions.

EC banks on tech for faster turnout updates

NEW DELHI: In a reform that promises to fix the delays in updating of voter turnout figures on poll day - a grouse often raised by Congress to question the electoral processes and EC itself - the poll panel Tuesday said it shall replace the manual reporting methods with a streamlined, technology-driven system that will provide timely updates to the public on approximate poll percentage trends. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "This new process significantly reduces time lag associated with earlier manual reporting methods. The initiative aligns with EC's commitment to ensure timely public communication, which has often been underlined by CEC Gyanesh Kumar," EC said in a statement Tuesday. The faster voter turnout update system shall kick off with upcoming Bihar assembly poll. Reiterating its commitment to keep the public informed and ensure faster updation of approximate voter turnout trends, the poll panel explained that the presiding officer of each polling station will now directly enter voter turnout on the new ECINET app - which will bring 40 election-related apps, including voter turnout (VTR) app, on a single platform - every couple of hours on polling day as well as immediately upon close of poll. These updates will be automatically aggregated at constituency level. Uploading of voter percentage at close of elections, just before the presiding officer leaves the polling station, will eliminate the time lag between voter turnout at close of poll and updated/final voter turnout figures released by the .

Jogulamba Shakti Peetha: A Heritage Site in Desperate Need of Attention

Gadwal: The Jogulamba Temple—recognized as the fifth among the revered 18 Shakti Peethas in the country—continues to draw devotees in large numbers. However, despite significant donations pouring in regularly, the temple suffers from inadequate facilities and underdeveloped infrastructure, raising serious concerns among visitors and locals alike. Located in the newly-formed Jogulamba Gadwal district, the temple gained prominence following the reorganization of districts in Telangana. The presiding deity, Goddess Jogulamba, is enshrined in a vast and spiritually significant location that holds immense potential for tourism development. Yet, despite these advantages, the temple has not seen the infrastructural progress it deserves, largely due to the apathy of political leadership—both past and present. Leadership Apathy & Political Neglect Locals and observers note that successive Chief Ministers have failed to prioritize the temple's development. Moreover, the lack of initiative from local elected representatives has also contributed to the stagnation. Some analysts argue that the fact that the Alampur constituency is reserved for Scheduled Castes has led to political sidelining, impacting developmental efforts. Glorious Past, Present Neglect Alampur is often referred to as the "Dakshina Kashi" (Southern Kashi), and it boasts a rich heritage including the famous Nava Brahma temples. These temples, dedicated to various forms of Lord Shiva, were once architectural marvels. However, during the rule of the Nawabs, many of these structures were destroyed and have yet to be restored to their original glory. Many temples today remain in a dilapidated condition, much to the dismay of visiting devotees. Where Are the Donations Going? Despite the influx of donations from devotees and prominent personalities across states, allegations have emerged that these funds are being mismanaged or diverted. Devotees complain that the benefits of their contributions are not reflected in the on-ground development or in the enhancement of pilgrim facilities. Poor Facilities: A Deep Disappointment One of the most pressing concerns is the poor state of the 'Anna Prasadam' distribution system. Despite daily offerings of large donations, the temple can only accommodate around 40 people at a time in its prasadam hall. This forces many pilgrims to wait for hours to receive free meals. This is particularly disheartening given the volume of visitors the temple attracts. Stalled Progress Under the Prasad Scheme To address such issues, the central government had sanctioned the construction of modern facilities under the PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi even virtually inaugurated these buildings. However, to date, these facilities have not been made operational, leaving devotees questioning the efficiency of the implementation process. Call for Immediate Action Being the only Shakti Peetha in Telangana, and the fifth in the country, Jogulamba Temple holds immense religious and cultural importance. Visitors, locals, and devotees are now urging temple authorities, district administrators, and political leaders to wake up to the needs of the temple and take immediate corrective action to restore its sanctity and service standards.

Petition Submitted to Ensure Smooth Implementation of PM Vishwakarma Yojana in Jogulamba Gadwal

Gadwal: Former district BJP president Ramachandra Reddy today submitted a formal petition to District Industrial General Manager Ramalingeshwar Goud, urging effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana in Jogulamba Gadwal district headquarters. The petition highlighted several challenges being faced by beneficiaries of the scheme in the district. Under the central government's Vishwakarma Yojana, various traditional artisans and craftsmen have registered online in Jogulamba Gadwal district. Some beneficiaries have even received training certificates. However, many are encountering severe difficulties in accessing financial assistance from banks, which is a crucial component of the scheme. In addition, complaints have emerged from several mandals where village secretaries are reportedly not assisting applicants properly, often stating that they have not received login access. This lack of administrative support is causing delays and confusion among applicants. Taking these issues into consideration, Ramachandra Reddy appealed to the District Industrial General Manager to ensure that the scheme is implemented smoothly and reaches all eligible beneficiaries without bureaucratic hurdles. The submission of the petition was accompanied by a group of prominent BJP leaders and supporters. Among those present were: Baligera Shiva Reddy, the BJP candidate who contested from Gadwal District OBC Morcha President Deva Das Senior BJP leaders Sanjeev Reddy and Dabbileti Narasimha Mandal presidents Gopal Krishna, Seshi, and Nagaraju, along with other local party activists and supporters. The group emphasized that if such grassroots-level issues are not resolved promptly, the very purpose of the Vishwakarma Yojana — which is aimed at empowering traditional artisans and boosting their livelihoods — would be defeated. Local leaders requested authorities to initiate coordination meetings with banks and village officials, provide technical support, and conduct awareness programs to facilitate the smooth implementation of the scheme. The BJP leaders concluded their representation with a call for immediate intervention from higher authorities, ensuring transparency and efficiency in delivering the benefits promised under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana.
