Every Big 12 team's 2025 bowl projection following spring football
It is only the first week in May, but spring football is over, and the anticipation for more football is never greater than when we don't have it.
Thanks to Brad Crowford at 247Sports, we have some post-spring bowl projections to explore after all the dust settled following the spring transfer portal window.
The Big 12 is expected to be loaded at the top with arguably six or seven teams capable of winning the conference championship. That makes projecting bowl games and, more importantly, which team or teams will represent the conference in the College Football Playoff.
Forty-one bowl games will cover this season's postseason slate, including six within the CFP. The Big 12 has tie-ins to six different bowl games, and former Pac-12 schools (Colorado, Utah, Arizona State, and Arizona) will still play in Pac-12-affiliated bowl games. Teams will be eligible to compete in Big 12 bowl games beginning in 2026,
Without further ado, let's dive into Brad Crawford's bowl projections, a solid seven months before the 2025 season kicks off.
Projection: Alamo Bowl vs. USC
USC-Kansas State would be quite the matchup, and should be one of the top non-New Year's Six bowls. The Wildcats project as one of the Big 12's top teams, but according to this projection, they miss out on the College Football Playoff.
Projection: Independence Bowl vs. Oregon State
The Cougars have brought in a solid transfer portal class and most of their returning production. Head coach Kalani Sitake is one of the top coaches in the Big 12 and should once again have his Cougars in contention for a conference title.
Projection: Texas Bowl vs. Texas A&M
Baylor might be my sleeper pick to make a run to the Big 12 championship, but here the Bears take on a fellow Texas program in a matchup that should draw fans of both teams. Aggies facing off against the Bears would be an underrated game if it were to happen.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Projection: Pop Tarts Bowl vs. SMU
Texas Tech should be another talented Big 12 team. In this prediction, the Red Raiders face off against the SMU Mustangs. Texas Tech brought in one of the top transfer portal classes in the country, and they should take advantage of it this year.
Projection: Las Vegas Bowl vs. Nebraska
Looks like the Sun Devils take a small step back in 2025 after making the College Football Playoff last season. Nevertheless, the quarterback battle in this bowl game would be elite. Sam Leavitt versus Dylan Raiola would be must-see TV.
Projection: Liberty Bowl vs. Missouri
Former Big 12 rivals will face off for the first time since 2011. This will be a hotly contested battle, as the all-time series is 57-54-9 in favor of the Tigers.
TCU Horned Frogs
Projection: Rate Bowl vs. Iowa
I am not as high on the Horned Frogs as some might be, but they should still challenge for a top spot in the Big 12. A bowl matchup against Iowa would be a solid season.
Projection: CFP Quarterfinal (Cotton Bowl) vs. Penn State
The Cyclones wouldn't be my pick to win the Big 12 Championship, but it is a pick-em out of the top teams. Rocco Becht is a talented quarterback, and no one should be surprised if Iowa State makes the CFP after narrowly missing out last season. However, the Cyclones are not beating the Nittany Lions.
Utah Utes
Projection: LA Bowl vs. UCLA
Our first Pac-12 Bowl tie-in goes to the Utes, who will be a drastically improved team from their 5-7 record last season. The Bruins could be a team to take another step forward with Nico Iamaleava under center. Depending on how each team's season turns out, this could be a team featuring two 7-plus-win teams.
UCF Knights
Projection: Birmingham Bowl vs. Arkansas
The Knights finish their American Conference bowl tie-in with a date with a mediocre SEC team. UCF is back under Scott Frost's leadership and hopes to return to bowl eligibility after missing out last season.
No bowl game projected

Rumor: Baylor freshman VJ Edgecombe had 'excellent' draft interview with Hornets
After a dazzling freshman campaign at Baylor, VJ Edgecombe is projected to be a top-five pick in the 2025 NBA draft on June 25-26 in Brooklyn, New York. Edgecombe was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, averaging 15 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals on 34% shooting from 3-point range. He finished in double figures 27 times, including a season-high 30 points on Jan. 22 in a win over Kansas State. Advertisement The 6-foot-5 guard is most commonly projected to be drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers or Charlotte Hornets with the third and fourth picks, respectively. He is expected to be heavily considered by the Hornets if he is still on the board, according to Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports. Edgecombe had an excellent interview with the Hornets, league sources said. And while there are no locks, plenty of executives believe he's the favorite if he makes it to the fourth pick. Edgecombe is viewed as one of the most athletic players in the draft this year and was an offensive force when getting downhill, thanks to his ability to create for himself and stretch the floor from beyond the arc. He also projects to be able to affect games at a high level on defense. The 19-year-old participated in the combine earlier this month, measuring in with a 6-foot, 7 1/2-inch wingspan. He also registered a 38 1/2-inch max vertical jump, tied for the ninth-highest mark among all participants this year in Chicago, Illinois. After missing out on the chance to have the top pick this year, the Hornets figure to land either Edgecombe or Ace Bailey in the draft. The two players both project to fit well with the roster and should help the team next year and beyond. 2025 Bears game-by-game predictions: Playoffs in Year 1 under Ben Johnson?
I'm optimistic about the Chicago Bears. There's a sentence I haven't said in a while. They've done everything right (and differently!) this offseason, and it looks like they'll be much improved this season. However, that doesn't necessarily mean the Bears will be in the playoffs or win the NFC North. They still have to walk before they can run. After winning just five games last season, the bar for improvement is pretty low. I think they'll surpass their 2024 win total, but let's not get carried away with expectations again in Ben Johnson's first year as head coach. There will still be an adjustment period as the team gets used to his system and as he learns his roster. With that in mind, here's an early look and prediction for each game on Chicago's schedule. Week 1: vs. Minnesota Vikings, Monday, Sept. 8 CHI -115, MIN -105 At home in what will presumably be Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy's first start, I think the Bears have the upper hand. That is, if Brian Flores' defense isn't already in midseason form. Result: Win, 1-0 record Week 2: at Detroit Lions, Sunday, Sept. 14 (FOX) CHI +180, DET -218 The NFL schedule makers wasted no time bringing Ben Johnson back to Detroit, and there's going to be so much extra juice there that I think the Bears can propel themselves to a win for their new coach. It also may take some time for the new coordinators in Detroit to get their footing, as well as defensive end Aidan Hutchinson to return to form. Result: Win, 2-0 record Week 3: vs. Dallas Cowboys, Sunday, Sept. 21 (FOX) CHI -155, DAL +130 Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will be back from injury and a couple of weeks into the groove of the new season. Dallas added more weapons for him as well as help up front, so I would count on a strong start to the season for the Cowboys. Result: Loss, 2-1 record Week 4: at Las Vegas Raiders, Sunday, Sept. 28 CHI -120, LV +100 This is a complete toss-up with the overhaul that happened in Vegas this offseason. I'm betting it's early enough in the season that the Raiders haven't found their stride quite yet. On paper, Chicago has the better team, too. Result: Win, 3-1 record Week 5: BYE Week 6: at Washington Commanders, Monday, Oct. 13 CHI +164, WSH -198 Chicago will be itching to avenge last year's loss to Washington on an insane Hail Mary, but as the Rolling Stones told us, you can't always get what you want. The Commanders only got better from last season and still have a ton of momentum coming off a deep playoff run that saw them challenge for the NFC title way ahead of schedule. Result: Loss, 3-2 record Week 7: vs. New Orleans Saints, Sunday, Oct. 19 (FOX) CHI -325, NO +260 This is one of the only benefits of this year's fourth-place schedule. The Saints will presumably be relying on a rookie to be their starting quarterback, and they still have holes all over their roster. It doesn't seem like their bounce back is coming this season, so this should be a win for Chicago. Result: Win, 4-2 record Week 8: at Baltimore Ravens, Sunday, Oct. 26 CHI +245, BAL -305 Playing Lamar Jackson is always a challenge, but playing him in Baltimore will be especially difficult. Result: Loss, 4-3 record Week 9: at Cincinnati Bengals, Sunday, Nov. 2 CHI +136, CIN -162 Getting the AFC North was really a tough straw to draw for the NFC North, which is already the toughest division in football. Sure, the Bengals finished in third place in their division last season, but with some shakeups and retentions this offseason, I don't expect Cincinnati to be down for long. Result: Loss, 4-4 record Week 10: vs. New York Giants, Sunday, Nov. 9 (FOX) CHI -218, NYG +180 There are a lot of question marks with the Giants still, perhaps not who will start at quarterback in Week 1 but certainly in Week 10. They also still need a ton of help along the offensive line, so this should work in Chicago's favor. Result: Win, 5-4 record Week 11: at Minnesota Vikings, Sunday, Nov. 16 (FOX) CHI +110, MIN -130 I think it's a pipe dream for any NFC North team to sweep a division rival this year. The Bears have been the division punching bag for the past few seasons under Matt Eberflus, so splitting the season series in Johnson's first year is a big win for them. Result: Loss, 5-5 record Week 12: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, Sunday, Nov. 23 CHI -130, PIT +110 The Steelers' defense is still formidable, but I think any team can win against them as long as they don't have a franchise guy under center. It's hard to say what exactly Aaron Rodgers is at this point. Result: Win, 6-5 record Week 13: at Philadelphia Eagles, Friday, Nov. 28 CHI +250, PHI -310 A year ago, Chicago came out of Thanksgiving weekend in search of a new head coach, so a date with the defending champs at their place actually marks a slight improvement. The Eagles never seem to take a true step back, even after reaching the mountaintop thanks to general manager Howie Roseman's team-building efficiency. Result: Loss, 6-6 record Week 14: at Green Bay Packers, Sunday, Dec. 7 (FOX) CHI +154, GB -185 Winning back-to-back games at Lambeau would really solidify Johnson and quarterback Caleb Willliams as the future of the Bears franchise. For that reason, I think there remains some mystery about Chicago losing to the team up north in their first meeting of the season. Result: Loss, 6-7 record Week 15: vs. Cleveland Browns, Sunday, Dec. 14 (FOX) CHI -298, CLE +240 I want there to be hope for the Browns, but I just don't think that happens as long as they're hamstrung by Deshaun Watson's contract. Next year should be a fresh start, but until then, I think they're the game every team is circling as a win on their schedules. Result: Win, 7-7 record Week 16: vs. Green Bay Packers, Saturday, Dec. 20 (FOX) CHI +100, GB -120 The Bears get to avenge their loss at Lambeau with a win at Soldier Field — a place Jordan Love is unbeaten at. That's encouraging in its own right as the Bears start to wrap up the first season of the Johnson era. Result: Win, 8-7 record Week 17: at San Francisco 49ers, Sunday, Dec. 28 CHI +150, SF -180 It's a tough trip, and the 49ers shouldn't be a rollover opponent despite their fourth-place finish in the NFC West last year. They're the reason this is not the year to be playing a last-place schedule. Result: Loss, 8-8 record Week 18: vs. Detroit Lions, TBD CHI +102, DET -122 It can't all be a fairy tale. With a potential playoff berth on the line, Chicago again draws one of its toughest opponents. The Lions will have found their groove by this point and probably be staring down another postseason berth, too, if not the NFC North crown. Result: Loss Overall record: 8-9 Carmen Vitali is an NFL Reporter for FOX Sports. Carmen had previous stops with The Draft Network and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. How Missouri football trolled Georgia without winning a game against UGA in a decade
How Missouri football trolled Georgia without winning a game against UGA in a decade The Missouri Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs won't be playing each other during the 2025 college football season unless the two teams meet in the SEC championship or College Football Playoff. That did not stop Missouri from trolling Georgia in a recent social media post. In a series of pictures, Missouri tabbed "the photo we recently hesitate to post" versus "the photo we posted in 2013 with absolutely zero hesitation." The Tigers included one picture of Missouri's 41-26 defeat of Georgia. Missouri's 2013 win over Georgia helped the Tigers climb the SEC East standings and advance to the SEC championship where Missouri lost to Auburn. Missouri's upset of No. 7 Georgia and star quarterback Aaron Murray derailed Georgia's season. The Missouri game was Georgia's second loss of the year and essentially crushed UGA's national championship hopes. Of course, the next week Georgia lost at Vanderbilt, which cemented the Dawgs' disappointing season after losing in the 2012 SEC championship and coming five yards short of a national championship appearance the year before. Georgia fans can cheer up though. The Bulldogs have won 10 straight games against Missouri. In 2016, Georgia hired coach Kirby Smart and began to dominate the SEC East. The Bulldogs won national titles in 2021 and 2022 to erase a lot of the heartbreak for Georgia's fan base. Missouri's post trolling Georgia Note: the image is all the way to the right on the post. Missouri has not beaten Georgia since 2013. Georgia has dominated the series, but Missouri has made strides in recent seasons. Georgia is 11-1 since Missouri joined the SEC, but the teams no longer face each other annually as SEC East rivals in the expanded 16-team SEC.
