A mum has been arrested after ordering the contract killing of her own daughter.
The woman, from the Chelyabinsk region of Russia, offered an acquaintance the equivalent of £930 to drown her 12-year-old daughter in a local river.
But her daughter was eavesdropping the chilling conversation – and the acquaintance, only named as 36-year-old Andrey, did not go through with the act.
The mother-of-four sent her daughter out of the house with the man shortly after ordering the murder of her child.
Local media reported: 'When they were walking along the road, the schoolgirl was very afraid and worried.
'But the man told her everything and promised to protect her.
'He hid the girl at his home and went to the police.' More Trending

‘Mushroom killer searched online for deadly mushrooms' before in-laws deaths

A woman accused of murdering her ex-husband's family by poisoning their lunch with death cup mushrooms searched the deadly ingredient online before their deaths, a court has heard. Erin Patterson is charged with three counts of murder after her former in-laws, Don and Gail Patterson, and Gail's sister Heather Wilkinson died in hospital in July 2023. She has also been accused of attempting to murder Heather's husband Ian, who was the only one to have survived the meal. They were suspected of eating poisonous mushrooms after eating a beef wellington meal cooked by Patterson at her home in Leongatha, Victoria. Cybercrime officer Shamen Fox-Henry said he found references to the mushrooms on Patterson's device. When asked if she had searched them online, she said she had 'no specific memory' but admitted: 'Does look like somebody did that yes. 'I don't remember doing it, it's possible it was me… I didn't use Internet Explorer or Bing but I accept maybe I did this time, I'm not sure.' But she added she wanted to know if death caps 'grew in South Gippsland'. Another online post was also found in May 2022 on iNaturalist, which Patterson says she 'does not know' if she looked it up. The victim's symptoms were described as being consistent with poisoning by death cap mushrooms, which is a dull green fungus known scientifically as Amanita phalloides and can cause serious organ failure within 24 to 48 hours. Patterson's ex-husband Simon Patterson had also been invited to the lunch but did not attend. She admitted it was 'unusual' to have them all over for dinner, but she 'wanted it to be special'. After preparing the meal, she has also been accused of dumping the dehydrator used to prepare the mushrooms in a forest. Patterson argued after she was told her guests were being treated for poisoning at hospital, she 'just got really scared' and got rid of the dehydrator. She said: 'I had a good relationship with them. I said they always treated me like a daughter, not like a daughter in-law, they treated me like their own daughter.' Erin's ex-husband Simon was questioned in court about her behaviour as his parents were dying in hospital. Simon denied that Erin had asked about the health of his parents during a phone call, which he said he thought 'that would be something that she'd be interested in asking about.' He said he thought at the time that it is 'odd.' The trial continues. Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ For more stories like this, check our news page. Soldier who raped stranger in 'harrowing' street attack jailed for nine years

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A soldier who tried to hide in a railway station cubicle after raping a stranger in a doorway in a 'harrowing' attack has been jailed for nine years. Private John Harvey, 25, initially gave police a full confession after accosting and attacking the young woman as she walked through Shrewsbury town centre. But he then forced her to 'relive the worst moment of my life' by pleading not guilty and making her give evidence at his nine-day trial. In a victim impact statement read at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, the woman, who cannot be identified, said her 20-minute ordeal had left her with post-traumatic disorder. She said: 'My home has become the only place I feel calm. The offender has convinced me terrible people who can do terrible things are everywhere. 'I was forced to endure rape. The offender also forced me to fight my corner in a trial. I was forced by him to relive the worst moment of my life repeatedly. 'This event from the beginning to the end is the worst and hardest thing I have ever had to endure.' Harvey, of Clive Barracks in Tern Hill, near Market Drayton, Shropshire, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one of assault by penetration. Judge Richard McConaghy told him the offence was aggravated by the fact he was drunk and the 'vulnerable' woman was walking alone at night. He told Harvey: 'She walked away and rang 999, audio of that call in the state that she was in is harrowing to listen to.' The court heard Harvey, who had missed his last train, went back towards the woman after the sexual assaults, but was 'put off' as she was on the phone to police, and went instead to Shrewsbury railway station. Video released by West Mercia Police after Harvey was jailed showed him being arrested by officers at the station at 6.32am in July last year. The video clip shows officers ordering Harvey to open the cubicle and then handcuffing him before he provided his name. Harvey, who was also ordered to serve an extended three-year period on licence after his eventual release, was said by the judge to be an 'educated man with a degree' and to have had a 'respectable career' at the time of the attack. The judge told Harvey, who is now working as a prison cleaner and training as a mentor: 'You co-operated on arrest and made full admissions to having raped her. 'You however chose to throw that mitigation away by contesting the trial in the face of very strong evidence and made her give evidence despite your own confession of what you had done.' After the sentencing, Detective Constable Sam Jones said Harvey 'is a danger to the wider public, in particular, women'. More Trending The officer added: 'In July last year Harvey committed a purely evil crime, and despite admitting to the offences during a police interview when he was arrested, he then changed his story at court, subjecting his victim and her loved ones to sit through a trial and relive that awful night.' No details of Harvey's military service or his employment by the Army were disclosed at his sentencing hearing. Clive Barracks is the long-term home of the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment. In a statement which did not confirm details of Harvey's unit, an Army spokesperson said: 'We can confirm that Private John Harvey appeared for sentencing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on June 5, 2025, convicted of a sexual offence. He was sentenced to nine years imprisonment.' Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ For more stories like this, check our news page. Madeleine McCann searches called to a halt after three days

The latest searches connected to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have ended. Search teams wound down the operation in Atalaia, near Lagos, Portugal, on Thursday, after three days of scouring scrubland and abandoned structures. Their efforts focused on a 120-acre stretch of land, using equipment such as chainsaws, diggers and a ground-penetrating radar. The operation comes 18 years after three-year-old Madeleine disappeared from nearby Praia da Luz while on holiday with her family in 2007. Maddie vanished after she was left sleeping while her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, went for dinner in a nearby restaurant. Officers involved in the latest searches held a debrief before leaving the site, and there was a round of applause before a crate of German beer was removed from one of the tents in the designated base area. Investigators have not revealed whether they have found anything of significance. Christian Brueckner, the prime suspect in the McCann case, is due to be released from prison in September. He is serving a sentence for raping a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luz in 2005. He has denied having any involvement in Madeleine's disappearance. If he is released, the convicted sex offender is expected to leave Germany for a country with no extradition treaty and lie low as he is so well known. The end of the search appears to dash any hopes of linking him to the case – at least for now. Earlier in the day, personnel could be seen holding pitchforks as they combed stretches of land. Pick-axes and shovels were used to dig some of the undergrowth and a digger was again used to remove rubble from one of the abandoned structures at the site. They spent the first two days of the search focusing on one particular derelict building. Investigators used ground-penetrating radar on the cobbled ground after clearing the area of debris and vegetation using a digger and chainsaws. British officers have not been present at the latest searches, the Metropolitan Police said. Madeleine's parents have not commented during the 'active police investigation', staff at the Find Madeleine Campaign said. More Trending German authorities requested the search as part of their continued attempts to source evidence to implicate Brueckner. In October last year, Brueckner was cleared by a German court of unrelated sexual offences, alleged to have taken place in Portugal between 2000 and 2017. In 2023, investigators carried out searches near the Barragem do Arade reservoir, about 30 miles from Praia da Luz. Brueckner spent time in the area between 2000 and 2017 and had photographs and videos of himself near the reservoir.
