He ordered the health department to remain on high alert to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases, which can often follow such rainfall-induced flooding.
To monitor and manage the situation, PM Shehbaz established a special committee to oversee rescue operations and ensure the safety and relief of affected citizens. He reiterated the government's commitment to protecting lives and property during natural disasters, emphasising the need for a quick and organised response from all concerned agencies.
In a separate development, PM Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on the construction of Jinnah Medical Complex (JMC), directing the relevant authorities to ensure that global standards of healthcare are met in its development.
'Jinnah Medical Complex will be a world-class hospital, providing treatment for patients from all four provinces, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan,' the prime minister said. He stressed the importance of transparency and merit in both the construction and staff recruitment for the facility.

During the meeting, officials briefed the prime minister on the progress of the concept design, board formation, land acquisition, and plans for a proposed commercial centre adjacent to the hospital. It was reported that the concept design, land transfer, and board appointments are nearing completion, and that geotechnical and social impact studies are underway.
Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Syed Mustafa Kamal, and PM's Health Coordinator Dr. Mukhtar Bharath were among those who attended the meeting.

PM unveils charter for JMC

ISLAMABAD: In an effort to enhance the government's healthcare credentials, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday unveiled an ambitious charter for the proposed Jinnah Medical Complex (JMC), directing that the facility be developed in accordance with international standards of infrastructure, service delivery, and governance. While chairing a review meeting on the project's progress – which is set to be built in Islamabad – the prime minister emphasised that international benchmarks should serve as the baseline, not merely an aspiration. He said the complex must emerge as a top-tier institution, offering specialised healthcare services to all provinces, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Jinnah Medical Complex: PM says will personally monitor construction In a symbolic gesture promoting federal inclusivity, the prime minister ordered that various blocks of the facility be named after the provinces – a nod to the national unity. Underscoring transparency and meritocracy, PM Sharif called for rigorous third-party validation of construction quality and recruitment processes. 'There is no room for inefficiency or favouritism,' he declared. Citing the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) as a model, he asserted that the Jinnah Medical Complex would surpass it – not only in scale, but also in standards. 'By the grace of Allah, PKLI has been a beacon of healing. Jinnah Medical Complex will go even further,' he said, adding that all services – from diagnostics to janitorial – would be outsourced strictly on merit. Officials briefed the prime minister on land acquisition, board formation, and the proposal for a commercial centre adjacent to the hospital – indicating plans for a future healthcare hub. Concept designs and land transfers, the meeting was told, are in the final stages, while geotechnical and social impact studies are under way. The prime minister also called for an urgent plan to upgrade Islamabad's primary and secondary healthcare network to relieve pressure on tertiary care facilities. The meeting was attended by federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Cheema, Mustafa Kamal, the prime minister's health coordinator Dr Mukhtar Bharath, PKLI Chairman Dr Saeed Akhtar, and other senior officials. President, PM call for joint efforts to combat hepatitis

President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have called for concerted efforts to contain the hepatitis epidemic and urged all stakeholders to join hands in a unified response to this growing threat to public health. In their separate messages on 'World Hepatitis Day' being observed on Monday, they said that Pakistan joined the international community in reaffirming the commitment to eliminate hepatitis and protect the health of the people. 'World Hepatitis Day' is observed to raise awareness about the dangers of disease and to promote collective action to prevent and control it. They noted that Pakistani healthcare professionals, researchers, and frontline workers were working tirelessly, and they need the community support. "We must implement comprehensive strategies that combine mass awareness campaigns, effective vaccination drives, timely screening and access to treatment. It is imperative to extend these services to all segments of society, especially in underserved and rural areas," Zardari said in his message. In his message, Shehbaz mentioned the launch of the Prime Minister's National Programme for the Elimination of Hepatitis C, which aimed to screen over 165 million people by 2030 and provide free treatment to all positive cases. "This is a national movement that is a testament to our collective commitment to saving lives and securing the future. To make this vision a reality, we call on different segments of society to contribute to the efforts to end this scourge," he said. He said raising awareness about hepatitis is essential to break the stigma surrounding the disease.
