Following a busy NFL offseason filled with trades, free-agent moves and the draft, Ben Arthur distilled each team's offseason into a word. Check out what Arthur had to say about the Bears: Upbeat
"Caleb Williams didn't have the kind of rookie season that many league observers expected from the No. 1 overall pick, but there is optimism about what's to come for him under new head coach Ben Johnson. The Bears have bulked up their offense around the former Heisman Trophy winner, raising intrigue about what's possible for them in a competitive NFC North. "

No 'Sophomore Slump' Predicted for Commanders' Jayden Daniels

No 'Sophomore Slump' Predicted for Commanders' Jayden Daniels originally appeared on Athlon Sports. One of the biggest questions this year is whether Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels can replicate his efforts from his rookie season. Advertisement Leading the Commanders to a 12-5 regular season record, an NFC Championship appearance, and winning Offensive Rookie of the Year is a hard thing to replicate. But that is what is in front of Daniels. Some think that a natural regression might be coming for the former LSU star, but not Steve Palazzolo. Speaking on the "Check The Mic" podcast, he said he doesn't see Jayden slipping up in 2025. 'How much have we talked about Jayden, like let's give it one more year before we see Jayden Daniels and the rise to stardom? I would just say looks like a star once again doesn't have any semblance of a sophomore slump like C.J. Stroud, like Baker Mayfield, like RG3, some of the other guys over the last 10 years,' Palazzolo said. Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (5) scrambles against Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Joe Tryon-Shoyinka (9) during the second quarter of an NFC Wild Card playoff at Raymond James Stadium.© Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images Stroud is the most recent case study for the slump, having won one more regular-season game, but his stats declined (interceptions increased), and his overall play fell short of the standard set in his 2023 season. Advertisement Will a similar fate meet Jayden in 2025? Commanders' fans hope not, and general manager Adam Peters went about his business and traded for Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil to boost the firepower around his young quarterback. Is that enough to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump? Time will tell, but there's every reason to think that Daniels won't regress in Year 2. Trey Hendrickson's Latest Move Could Signal Change in Bengals Conflict

Trey Hendrickson's Latest Move Could Signal Change in Bengals Conflict originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Trey Hendrickson is not the only NFL player in a contract dispute. But his conflict has become unquestionably the nastiest of this offseason cycle. Advertisement In Cincinnati alone, Hendrickson watched Bengals teammates Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins sign major deals near the start of free agency. While those two are deserving of such compensation, Hendrickson has also been a major contributor for the team in recent years and has a reason to assume he'd be right there with them. Indeed, he has essentially expressed that by calling the front office liars for not following through on what he believes he was promised. His combined 35 sacks are the most by any NFL player in the last two seasons by a decent margin. T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers is second on that list with 30.5 sacks. But the Bengals have not been willing to meet Hendrickson's asking price — which we assume to be in excess of $30 million APY — and at one point stopped negotiations altogether. Advertisement That led to Hendrickson going public with bold remarks about the organization and their handling of the situation. It appears the team and the player might be inching near a sort of a resolution. The latest? Hendrickson, who reportedly owns a home in Florida, is apparently here in the area training ahead of camp. It that proof of something in the way of progress? A hint? A bread crumb? OK. It's a bread crumb. One national site predicts that eventually the sides will settle on a two-year, $64 million deal for Hendrickson. And while we agree that a short-term deal would seem to be a fine compromise, we bet the Bengals would like to avoid a long-term commitment with Hendrickson and would be reluctant to go that far above that $30 mil APY. Advertisement But they are apparently talking. And Trey is here. So maybe Hendrickson's deep-rooted frustrations can be massaged in time to keep him here, for camp and beyond. Commanders Trade for Trey Hendrickson Idea Gets Final Pre-Camp Update

Commanders Trade for Trey Hendrickson Idea Gets Final Pre-Camp Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders are the No. 1 team when it comes to rumors about a trade for unhappy Cincinnati Bengals star defensive end Trey Hendrickson, and there are two logical reasons for that. Advertisement One, the Commanders can swoop in because they have the salary cap room. And two, the Commanders should swoop in because as talented as this roster is, they have the vacancy. Hendrickson has asked for a contract extension since the start of the offseason. He is currently slated for an over $18 million cap hit in the final year of his there is market-based logic now that makes it clear he can ask for $30 million per year or maybe even more. He was initially encouraged to seek out a trade. That didn't work. He's been involved in extension talks. That hasn't worked, either. So then came a major turn: Teams have called; we bet that group includes Washington and GM Adam Peters. The Bengals have been steadfast in stating that they want first-round value for the veteran if they do deal him. Advertisement And a sidebar: ESPN is suggesting a trade that would cost Washington nothing more than two Day 3 draft picks and young D-lineman Jer'Zhan Newton. Really? That's it? Nonsense. If that was the proposal on the table, Hendrickson would be in D. C. today. Instead, he is reportedly working out in Ohio, which has Cincy fans excited at the thought that maybe Cincinnati management folds and pays the guy who gets a rather amazing 17.5 sacks per year. Meanwhile, a breaking news update on the Washington position here. Yes, Washington is shy on picks; it can only offer so much as a result of the Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel trades. But Washington isn't shy about being aggressive in talent yet a report from The Athletic suggests that Washington plans on evaluating their in-house pass rushers before adding any outside talent. Advertisement All in all, this feels like a major "tap the brakes'' moment in a much-rumored connection.
