YSRCP blames Andhra govt for fertilizer shortage

Last Updated: Amaravati, Aug 4 (PTI) The YSRCP on Monday accused the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government of ignoring farmers' needs and allegedly failing to ensure fertilizer supply during kharif season. Despite the beginning of kharif season, farmers are struggling as the government has failed to provide essential fertilizers, it said. 'The government has once again proved its inefficiency. RBKs are dysfunctional and farmers are anxious. Chandrababu calls agriculture a waste," the party said. 'The TDP-led NDA government has shown its inefficiency once again by not making the fertilizers available though the Kharif season has set in," said YSRCP in a release. The opposition party alleged that the current government deliberately destroyed the Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs), launched by the former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, thus placing 'farmers in great distress across the state". The promised supply of urea and other fertilizers was not provided, said YSRCP, alleging that this betrayal enabled black-marketing to flourish at farmers' expense. The YSRCP will continue to champion farmers' rights, as agriculture remains a key priority for the party under Reddy's leadership, it said. It further alleged that the NDA coalition government is not treating farming as a vital sector and declared that the party will expose the failures and fight for justice to cultivators. By-election campaign for Pulivendula ZPTC seat heats up

The ruling NDA Alliance is up against the YSRCP to win by-election for the Pulivendula ZPTC seat which fell vacant falling the demise of sitting member Maheswar Reddy (YSRCP) two years ago. Pulivendula, the constituency represented by former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, is considered the heartland of YSRCP. The TDP-led alliance has allotted the seat to Mareddy Latha Reddy, spouse of Pulivendula constituency in-charge Mareddy Ravindranath Reddy ( Ravi); who is leaving no stone unturned to ensure her victory. TDP politburo member and Kadapa district President Reddeppagari Srinivasa Reddy along with Jammalamadugu BJP MLA and Government whip C. Adinarayana Reddy campaigned for Ms. Reddy in Pulivendula on Monday (August 4, 2025). Meanwhile, the YSRCP is banking on the YSR family's charisma, as former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy never lost an election he had contested. Banking on sympathy, the party has announced the candidature of deceased ZPTC member's wife and son. Member of Parliament (Kadapa) Y.S. Avinash Reddy has even appealed to the political parties to let the deceased ZPTC member's dependants win the election on 'humanitarian grounds' as a 'humble tribute'. However, the political parties paid no heed to Mr. Avinash Reddy's request. The Congress party has also announced a candidate and expressed confidence of winning the coveted seat.

Be conscious of public health, Naidu tells officials ahead of new liquor policy launch

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu advised the officials of the Excise Department not to look at the New Liquor Policy (NLP), which is scheduled to come into effect on September 1, merely from the revenue generation perspective but to also keep in mind the importance of safeguarding the public health, in the sense that selling liquor having less alcohol content would help in protecting the consumers. Reviewing the functioning of the Excise Department at the Secretariat in Amaravati on Monday, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said the consumption of substandard quality liquor during the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) rule caused the death of a large number of people, devastating their families. He noted that since the implementation of the NLP was around the corner, the Excise Department should take necessary steps while being conscious of the fact that the government could not afford to make money at the cost of public health. The recommendations made by the Cabinet Sub-Committee have to be strictly adhered to. Licences As on date, the State has 840 bars, and under the new policy, bar licences would be issued through a lottery system subject to the payment of annual licence fees based on population (₹35 lakh for areas with population below 50,000, ₹55 lakh for towns with population below five lakh, and ₹75 lakh for cities / towns whose populations exceeds five lakh). The Chief Minister ordered that 10% of the bar licences should be allotted to underprivileged castes, as being done in the case of liquor shops. Officials told the Chief Minister that there has been an increase in liquor sales in areas bordering the neighbouring States due to a fall in prices, availability of brands and quality liquor in A.P. The situation was the opposite during the YSRCP rule, when liquor used to be smuggled from other States. The officials said that 12 districts have been declared as fully 'ID liquor-free', and eight more districts will follow suit in a month. Minister Kollu Ravindra (Excise, and Mining) and Kondapalli Srinivas (MSME & SERP) and senior officials were present.
