Match of the Day: Mark Chapman makes quip as show starts life after Gary Lineker
Introducing the show, Chapman said: 'The Premier League is back and Match of the Day is back. You may have seen and heard there's a big change to the show this season, and that is that Wayne Rooney has joined is us as a regular pundit.

Former England captain Rooney, 39, has joined the show after leaving his most recent spell in management at Plymouth back in December.
Chapman, 51, has previously hosted Match of the Day when Lineker was unavailable, and was the regular host of the Sunday show, Match of the Day 2.
From this season, the Sunday highlights, as well as the new Champions League highlights show, will all be known as Match of the Day.
On Wednesday, Cates hosted a programme to preview the new Premier League season alongside Rooney, Danny Murphy and Julien Laurens. Logan is due to host Match of the Day's Sunday night programme this week.
Lineker's final show came at the end of last season on May 26 in a long-planned move.
The 64-year-old had planned to front the BBC's live coverage of the FA Cup and 2026 World Cup, but brought forward his departure following a social media row in which he shared a post about Zionism featuring a depiction of a rat, historically used as an antisemitic trope.
Lineker, the BBC's highest-paid presenter and host of Match of the Day since 1999, apologised unreservedly for the post but said it was 'best for all concerned' if he left completely.

EastEnders newcomer Max Murray has only been on Albert Square for a short time, but his character Joel Marshall has been causing nothing but trouble. The character often expresses proof that he's been influenced by 'incel culture'. An incel is a member of an online community of young men. They consider themselves unable to attract woman sexually and have views that are often hostile towards women, and men who are sexually active. Joel has also been seen watching videos from a misogynistic influencer online. The last time Ross discovered Joel was continuing to view them, he threw his laptop in the sink and poured water over it. As he branded him a 'revolting, arrogant, disgusting little pervert', Joel pleaded for forgiveness. In real life, Max isn't the only member of his family to appear in the BBC soap, with the youngster following in the footsteps of his famous mum. Max is the son of actress and singer Gina Murray, who has had an extensive career on stage and screen. Gina appeared in an episode of EastEnders in 2014, where she played a woman called Helen. Helen was a specialist who arrived to help Carol Jackson find a wig after losing her hair during her battle with cancer. As well as EastEnders, Gina has also appeared on The Bill and Doctors, and more recently starred as Lesley Stobbart in The Hunt for Raoul Moat. She has also voiced characters in numerous video games, including RoboCop: Rogue City and Baldur's Gate 3. Chelsea respond as Man City join race to sign Enzo Maresca favourite
Manchester City are among a number of Premier League clubs reportedly interested in signing one of Enzo Maresca's favourite Chelsea stars. Chelsea have gone into the 2025/26 season as one of the favourites for the Premier League title following their Club World Cup triumph in the summer. But they haven't got off to the best of starts, being held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace in their opening game on Sunday, with the Eagles arguably the better side at Stamford Bridge. While they have spent another £241million on new signings, Maresca is dealing with an injury crisis in defence, with Levi Colwill expected to miss the majority of the season due to a serious ACL injury, while Tosin Adarabioyo is also sidelined. At least that's what Knight Frank are banking on as they handle the sale of Luckington Court in Luckington, Wiltshire, which famously portrayed Longbourn in the BBC's 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. The grade II-listed country house, immortalised to millions as the home of protagonist Elizabeth Bennet and her family, is up for sale for £3.95million. The BBC's 1995 adaptation, featuring Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth Bennet and Colin Firth as the dashing Mr Darcy, is widely lauded as the best adaptation of the Jane Austen classic ever made.
