Dubai welcomes robot delivery service in Sobha Hartland via Yango-ROOTS partnership
Yango Group has partnered with food tech and retail company ROOTS to deploy autonomous robots for grocery deliveries in Dubai's Sobha Hartland district.
The service, which launches today, follows Yango Group's acquisition of a licence from Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The robots deliver orders within a two-kilometre radius in under 30 minutes. They navigate using high-precision mapping and neural networks to recognise traffic lights, road signs, and obstacles.
Each robot features six driving wheels capable of climbing kerbs up to 10 centimetres high, with a 60-litre cargo compartment that maintains appropriate temperatures for various food items.
'We are excited to provide our community in Sobha Hartland with this innovative delivery option from Yango Group. It's a game changer for local retail delivery, which ultimately benefits everyone by reducing delivery time and supporting sustainability efforts while giving people yet another option to access fresh organic products,' Florian Jansen, Founder of ROOTS said.
Customers can place orders through the ROOTS website at go-roots.ae and select robot delivery at checkout.

When the robot arrives, customers receive a WhatsApp notification to collect their order.
The initiative aligns with the Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy, which aims to convert 25 percent of transportation to autonomous modes by 2030 and reduce CO₂ emissions by 30 percent.
Yango Group plans to expand partnerships with Dubai businesses and recently launched Yango Tech, a B2B AI ecosystem offering business solutions.
The platform includes Autonomy, a service aimed at streamlining logistics, reducing operational costs, and enhancing last-mile delivery efficiency.

SRTA launches proactive plan for 5600 trips during Eid
Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, the head of the SRTA, highlighted the importance of being well-prepared during holidays. He noted that during the Eid al-Adha holiday in 2025, which runs from June 5 to 8, there will be a noticeable rise in public transport users. To handle this, the SRTA has made plans to operate 180 buses on various routes, aiming to complete around 5,600 trips over the four days. During peak times, buses will come every 5 minutes instead of the usual 45-minute wait. This means shorter waiting times and more convenience for everyone traveling. The authority is committed to making travel easy for people visiting family or exploring popular destinations, both within the emirate and outside it. They are also increasing staff at busy bus stations, especially the Jubail Bus Station, which will be open from early morning until late at night to accommodate the larger number of passengers expected during this busy holiday. Regular comprehensive trips The Authority has improved bus services in Sharjah City for the Eid holiday, making travel easier for everyone. They are running a total of 1,144 bus trips each day across 12 different routes, using 104 buses that connect to 543 stops around the city. Al-Othmani pointed out that these efforts are part of a plan to create a well-rounded public transport system that meets the growing need for travel during busy times like holidays. He noted that Route 22 will not be in service during the Eid holiday because the Souq Al Haraj market is closed. To make things easier for passengers, they have made some changes, including quicker arrival times and more ticket sales points at bus stations and inside buses, to minimize delays and crowding. To manage passenger flow, especially at the Jubail station, the teams have stepped up their preparations. They have increased the number of staff on duty and are providing the necessary support to ensure smooth operations. They are also allowing people to book bus tickets in advance and are keeping a close eye on how things are running to maintain a high level of service. Maritime transport During the Eid Al Adha holiday, there will be a special boat service operating between Sharjah and Dubai. Abdul Aziz Al Jarwan, who is in charge of transport at the local authority, announced that there will be four daily trips. These boats will leave from the Aquarium Station in Sharjah and arrive at Al Ghubaiba Station in Dubai, working together with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority. The trips will run from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a boat leaving every two hours. Each journey will take about 35 minutes. Passengers are encouraged to arrive at the station at least 15 minutes before their departure to ensure a smooth boarding process. This service is designed to provide more transportation options for everyone and help connect different types of transport. Promoting tourism Al Jarwan shared that the Authority is working closely with the Omani transport company, Mwasalat, to run international route 203. This route connects Sharjah with Muscat, the capital of Oman, and offers two flights each day. This service is expected to encourage tourism between the two countries, especially during the Eid holidays. Passengers can board at Jubail station and travel to Al Athaiba station, making stops along the way. Tickets can be purchased online through Mwasalat Oman's website or at their service points. Public engagement Al Jarwan mentioned that during the Eid holiday, a special call center will be available 24 hours a day to help people book taxis. This includes different types of vehicles like regular taxis, family-sized cars, options for women, vehicles for those with special needs, and electric cars. You can make reservations by phone, through a smartphone app, or by visiting a website. The call center keeps an eye on all the bookings to make sure taxis arrive as fast as possible. It also welcomes feedback from the public regarding bus and taxi services, helps with reports of lost bags, and answers questions about the services offered across the emirate, including Sharjah City and other regions. He highlighted that the call center plays a vital role in connecting with the community, gathering and analyzing feedback to improve services in the future.

RTA set to upgrade Al Wasl Road in Dubai
In line with the directives of the wise leadership to accelerate the development of infrastructure projects and enhance the capacity of Dubai's road network, thereby improving traffic flow and keeping pace with the emirate's comprehensive development, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced an integrated project to upgrade Al Wasl Road. The initiative also aims to address urban expansion, accommodate population growth, and enhance the quality of life for both residents and visitors. The development spans 15 km, from the intersection with Umm Suqeim Street to the junction with 2nd December Street. It includes the upgrade of six intersections, comprising enhancements to one junction and the construction of five tunnels totalling 3,850 metres. The street will be widened from two to three lanes in each direction. The project is expected to reduce travel time along Al Wasl Road by 50% and increase capacity from 8,000 to 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, stated: 'Al Wasl Road Development Project forms part of a master plan developed by the RTA to upgrade the road network in the area, which also includes enhancements to Umm Suqeim and Al Safa Streets. These projects are designed with a focus on creative and aesthetic elements, incorporating dedicated pedestrian walkways, cycling tracks, boulevards, and vibrant urban public spaces that promote community interaction. The plan also features decorative landscaping and the creation of dynamic urban environments. It also entails the construction of a tunnel at the intersection of Al Wasl Road with Al Safa Street, measuring 750 metres in length and featuring two lanes in each direction, with an estimated total capacity of 6,400 vehicles per hour. Al Tayer added: 'The project will also convert the Al Satwa roundabout into a signalised junction and implement surface-level enhancements at five intersections along Jumeirah Street, including upgrades to the traffic signal control system.' upgrade of Umm Suqeim Street from its intersection with Jumeirah Street to its junction with Al Khail Road. A tunnel will be built at the intersection of Umm Suqeim Street with Jumeirah Street, comprising two lanes in each direction, along with a signalised surface-level junction. Another tunnel will be constructed at the intersection with Al Wasl Road, featuring two lanes in the direction from Sheikh Zayed Road to Jumeirah Street, while maintaining seamless surface-level flow towards Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. The project also includes the construction of two bridges at the intersection of Umm Suqeim Street with Sheikh Zayed Road, designed to eliminate traffic weaving and overlap at the existing junction. The scope of work includes the upgrade of the intersection with Al Barsha South through the construction of an 800-metre tunnel featuring four lanes in each direction, alongside a signalised surface-level intersection. The project also involves the upgrade of major intersections along Al Qudra Road—starting from its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, passing through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and continuing to Emirates Road. This phase includes the development of several intersections, the construction of bridges totalling 2,700 metres in length, and the upgrade and widening of the existing street along an 11.6 km stretch.
