Indian Express2 hours ago
The Keshod Airport in Junagadh will be able to facilitate operations of AB-320 type aircraft by January 2027, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said on Tuesday in its response to an unstarred question by a Rajya Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh.
Parimal Nathwani, the Director of Corporate Affairs at Reliance Industries Limited, and a member of the upper house of Parliament from the YSRCP, on Tuesday asked a series of unstarred questions about the Keshod Airport that were answered by Murlidhar Mohol, the MoS for Civil Aviation.
In his response to questions regarding infrastructure upgradation at the airport, Mohol, in a written reply, said: 'The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has undertaken the extension of the runway at Keshod Airport in Gujarat, to a length of 2500 metres to facilitate the operation of AB-320 type of aircraft. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 190.558 crore and the timeline for completion of the project has been set at 18 months. The project is underway with no reported delays. The projected date of completion of the project is January 2027.'
Replying to a question regarding the terminal building upgrade and its capacity, the ministry replied, 'The AAI has undertaken the development of Keshod Airport in Gujarat at an estimated cost of Rs 364 crore which includes the New Terminal Building at a cost of Rs 142.17 Crore. The new terminal building, spanning 6,500 square meters, is designed to handle a peak hour capacity of 400 departing and 400 arriving passengers simultaneously. The tender for construction of the new terminal building has been floated, and the timeline for completion of the project is 15 months from the date of the award of the work.'
Talking about the reasons behind him asking these questions, Nathwani said, 'By upgrading Keshod Airport to allow operation of large-body aircraft, it will become easier for wildlife enthusiasts across the globe to travel to Gir National Park to see the only remaining Asiatic Lions in the world. At the same time, the Somnath temple owns a special place amongst the twelve jyotirlings, and Keshod Airport will facilitate devotees of Lord Shiva from India and abroad to visit this famous temple with much greater ease.'
Other questions asked by Nathwani related to flights at the airport were available on the Rajya Sabha website. According to the site, in a response to questions on the current flight schedule at Keshod Airport, the ministry said, 'Presently, there are no scheduled flight operations from Keshod Airport.' Regarding flights cancelled since January 2025, the reply stated, 'Since January 2025, 29 flights of Alliance Air on Ahmedabad-Keshod-Diu sector and 23 flights of Alliance Air on the Mumbai-Keshod-Mumbai sector were cancelled due to aircraft issues.'
Nathwani also wanted to know about the steps taken by the DGCA 'to bring back the lost confidence of people to fly subsequent to the tragic incident of plane crash in Ahmedabad'.
'Post the tragic crash in Ahmedabad, DGCA has ordered enhanced safety inspection of Air India's Boeing 787 fleet and carried out heightened surveillance across various regions in India to ensure safe operations of aircraft. DGCA has also issued General Safety Circular 01 of 2025 for a comprehensive special audit to assess the aviation ecosystem and strengthen aviation safety architecture. The government has reviewed the safety practices of all major airlines and airports,' the ministry replied.

Knowledge Realty Trust REIT IPO subscribed 1.2 times on Day 1

The initial share sale of Knowledge Realty Trust, sponsored by realty firm Sattva Group and Blackstone, got fully subscribed on the first day of bidding on Tuesday and ended the day with 1.20 times subscription. The Rs 4,800-crore REIT initial public offering (IPO) received bids for 25,04,91,300 units against 20,84,20,800 units on offer, translating into 1.20 times subscription, as per NSE data. Institutional Investors category received 75 per cent subscription while other investors (such as corporates, and individuals investors/NRI and HUF) category was subscribed 1.75 times, as per the NSE data. Knowledge Realty Trust on Monday said it had garnered Rs 1,620 crore from anchor investors, including those from Amundi, Wells Capital, Jhunjhunwala Trust. Additionally, the company received a strategic allocation of Rs 1,200 crore from institutional investors. The IPO will conclude on August 7. The company has set a price band of Rs 95 to Rs 100 per unit. This IPO is entirely a fresh issuance of units by Knowledge Realty Trust. In early March, KRT filed the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with Sebi to launch an IPO and list the REIT on stock exchanges. This is part of a strategy to monetise its 30 prime office assets across major cities. Initially, the company planned to raise a total of Rs 6,200 through a public issue. In June, it raised Rs 1,400 crore from investors. Accordingly, the issue size has been reduced to Rs 4,800 crore. KRT is set to become India's largest REIT by gross asset value (around Rs 62,000 crore). Its net operating income stood at Rs 3,432 crore in the previous financial year. KRT owns over 46 million sq ft of office assets across 29 assets in six cities, primarily Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The assets include One BKC and One World Center in Mumbai, Knowledge City, and Knowledge Park in Hyderabad and Cessna Business Park and Sattva Softzone in Bengaluru. Blackstone and Sattva will continue to own about 80 per cent of the REIT. At present, there are four listed REITs (real estate investment trusts) in India -- Brookfield India Real Estate Trust, Embassy Office Parks REIT, Mindspace Business Parks REIT, and Nexus Select Trust. Apart from Nexus Select Trust, the other three REITs are backed by rent-yielding office assets. Nexus owns a large portfolio of retail real estate spaces. Bengaluru-based Sattva Developers has so far constructed 74 million sq ft across seven Indian cities in commercial, residential, co-living, co-working, hospitality, and data centre sectors. An additional 75 million sq ft is in the planning and implementation stage. Blackstone, one of the leading global investment firms, has a huge exposure in the Indian real estate market. The two sponsors have decided to adopt a brand-neutral strategy to grow the KRT portfolio inorganically through third-party acquisitions. The existing four REITs have a combined portfolio of over 126 million sq ft of Grade A office and retail space across the country. Since their inception, these REITs have collectively distributed over Rs 21,000 crore to unitholders.

Retail fund flows surge: Mid, smallcap schemes draw Rs 20,255cr in Q1; investors chase high returns despite expensive valuations

Retail investors are continuing to pour large sums into mid and smallcap mutual fund schemes, chasing high returns even as experts warn of stretched valuations and recommend a shift to safer ground. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), investors allocated Rs 20,255 crore into mid and smallcap schemes in the first quarter of FY26—accounting for 30% of total equity inflows of Rs 66,689 crore during the period. Over the past 12 months, retail investments into these funds stood at Rs 90,075 crore, making up 23% of total equity flows of Rs 3.9 lakh crore, ET reported. 'A lot of retail investors continue to chase past performance,' said Harshvardhan Roongta, principal financial planner at Roongta Securities. 'Returns from mid and smallcap funds for three and five-year periods have been very high compared to large caps, which has kept investor interest intact.' According to Value Research data, midcap mutual funds have delivered 21.3% average returns over the past three years and 27.4% over five years. Smallcap funds did even better, with 21.94% returns over three years and 31.28% over five. In comparison, Nifty 50 returned 13.55% and 18.58% over the same periods. 'Investors are looking to get exposure to some of the faster-growing segments of the economy, reflected in their preference towards midcap and smallcap funds,' said Dikshit Mittal, senior fund manager – equity, LIC Mutual Fund. ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund noted in its July outlook that both midcap and smallcap indices continue to trade at valuation multiples far higher than historical averages. While valuations have eased slightly since their September 2024 peaks, they remain elevated. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The price-to-earnings (PE) ratio for the Nifty Smallcap 250 stands at 32 and Nifty Midcap 150 at 33.4—significantly higher than Nifty 50's 21.7, ET report said. A Whiteoak Capital study showed that while large caps currently trade at a 10% discount to their five-year average, midcaps are at a 14% premium and smallcaps at a 28% premium to long-term averages. Given this, wealth managers are urging caution. 'Aggressive investors should allocate only 10–15% of their equity portfolio to the mid and small cap space,' said Vishal Dhawan, founder, Plan Ahead Wealth Advisors. Dhawan advised investors to stagger their investments through SIPs and maintain a long-term horizon of at least 10 years to avoid potential disappointment.
