Dai-ichi Life teams up with Capgemini to set up its first GCC outside Japan in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Japanese life insurance player Dai-ichi Life Group has signed a multi-year agreement with French IT services major Capgemini to set up its first global capability centre (GCC) outside Japan in Hyderabad as part of efforts to accelerate its digital transformation globally.

The GCC, set up on a build-operate-transfer model, was opened today at Capgemini's facilities in Hyderabad. The new GCC will strengthen Dai-ichi's in-house capabilities and technology platforms by driving innovation and operational efficiency on a global scale, the two companies said in a joint statement.
This strategic collaboration with Capgemini, which initially spans Japan, the United States, and Australia, will leverage the GCC's digital capabilities including advanced software development, infrastructure modernization, AI & data solutions, and robust cybersecurity measures, the statement said.
The new GCC has been designed with the flexibility to expand into other countries based on market needs and potential, to support the global ambitions of Dai-ichi Life Group and aims to tap into the deep pool of skilled professionals in India, it added.
According to Capgemini, it will bring its end-to-end capabilities at scale, including its strong presence and delivery track record in Japan, Asia Pacific and globally, to enable Dai-ichi Life Group's transformation agenda.
The partnership will focus on co-innovating solutions that streamline operations, harness the power of data analytics and artificial intelligence, and fortify cybersecurity defences with an eye on ensuring a seamless and enhanced experience for Dai-ichi Life Group's customers, the statement said.

Swedish premium carmaker Polestar will start delivering its electric vehicles in France this year with the goal of making it one of its three main European markets, its top executive for the country told Reuters. In France, Polestar will start taking orders for its 2, 3 and 4 models on Wednesday, at starting prices ranging from 46,800 euros ($53,474) to 79,800 euros ($91,180). The first French showroom will open in Le Mans in July and first deliveries are expected from October. The company plans to have a robust servicing network and dedicated selling points still relying on its former owner Volvo Cars, which continues to manufacture some Polestar models . The company's French launch has been delayed by a complaint filed by PSA - now part of Stellantis - arguing the Polestar logo looked too much like the DS brand logo. Both parties reached an agreement in 2022 without disclosing its financial details.

Karnataka Home Minister proposes to merge Tumakuru with Bengaluru district
The Karnataka government has initiated steps to merge Tumakuru district with Bengaluru city, as part of a broader plan to expand the metropolitan region. Home Minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday confirmed that a proposal had been submitted to the government to convert Tumakuru into what he described as 'Bengaluru North district'.Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara explained that the rapid expansion of Bengaluru city had already extended beyond Nelamangala, bringing Tumakuru—just 30 kilometres away—well within its sphere of influence. He argued that the change in nomenclature would offer better clarity, particularly for outsiders, and boost the city's growth such a situation, there is a difference between Tumkur district and 'Bengaluru North district'. For those in New York, 'Bengaluru North' is easy to understand. Tumakuru district is somewhere like this. That is why such an effort has been made,' Parameshwara said.
