Stephen Colbert's lefty lunacy: Letters to the Editor — July 29, 2025

The Issue: The cancellation of Stephen Colbert's 'The Late Show,' which is known for its anti-Trump humor. Stephen Colbert's restriction — or perhaps elimination — of guests from the right, and his puerile attempt at humor is simply not funny ('The Left Show with Stephen Colbert,' July 27). His monologues are a sad camouflage for his political agenda: unwarranted hatred for President Trump. Advertisement Ron Goldman Brooklyn Jay Leno is spot on when he says that late-night TV hosts are alienating half their audiences ('Leno's 'left' jab at comics,' July 28). Fewer people are watching to begin with, and these overrated, overpaid clowns just keep delivering the same old liberal garbage. Advertisement I believe the legacy media has just as much to do with it as the buffoons. One can only hope that other hosts besides Colbert get canceled. Rob Feuerstein Staten Island Advertisement At the end of the day, Colbert became a cult leader. He claims to be a devout Catholic, but he delivers a message of hate every night. He had every right to pounce and make jokes about Trump, but when does it become mean rather than meaningful? Life is tough enough these days; why incite people rather than calm them and let them forget about the world for an hour? Dan Ricciardi Advertisement Brooklyn Rather than continuing to lose millions on late-night talk shows or canceling them entirely, the mainstream networks should emulate the Greg Gutfeld model on Fox. Place your host on a chair in a room surrounded by several like-minded panelists and let them riff on the news of the day for a half hour. No cavernous theater that can seat a thousand sycophants; no multi-member band protected by union contracts; and, most of all, no guests I've never heard of pushing movies I don't want to see, songs I don't want to hear or books I don't want to read. Subscribe here! Only Colbert found his jokes about Trump funny. It seems the only time the audience laughed was when Colbert did one of his ridiculous dances and made a fool of himself. Advertisement The critics may be right about Trump being responsible for Colbert's ouster. His audience has been silenced and Trump has had the last laugh. Nicholas Maffei Yonkers I watched Stephen Colbert's 'Late Show' for the first time in many years. He was not funny, and the show was not entertaining. Maybe that is why it is being canceled. He was a wrestler, actor and showman with a heart of gold. But more than that, Hogan was a true patriotic American, not to mention true MAGA all the way. He was a big supporter of President Trump and at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee he ripped off his shirt in true Hulk Hogan style. He will truly be missed. Nick Hogan gets emotional during WWE tribute to dad Hulk Hogan at ‘Monday Night Raw'

Nick Hogan got emotional while honoring his father at the place that helped made Terry 'Hulk Hogan' Bollea a pro wrestling and pop culture icon. Hogan's 35-year-old son was front and center at WWE's 'Monday Night Raw' from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan, where the company gave the Hulkster a 10-bell salute to open the show, followed by a video tribute to open the show on Netflix – like they did on SmackDown last week. Hulk Hogan died last week at the age of 71 after being taken to the hospital following a medical incident at his home in Clearwater, Florida. Advertisement Nick Hogan, surrounded by the WWE locker room on the Raw stage, was joined in Detroit by his wife Tana Lea, his father's partners in the 'Real American Beer' venture and good friend and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff. It was his first public appearance since his dad's death. Nick Hogan could be seen fighting back his emotions as the conclusion of the video tribute brought chants of 'Hogan! Hogan!' from the crowd. Advertisement 3 Nick Hogan and WWE remember Hulk Hogan at Monday Night Raw. WWE/YouTube Nick Hogan posted an emotional tribute to his father on Sunday, calling him 'best friend' and 'hero.' 'Hearing so many kind words and stories about my dad's life, interactions and experiences with everyone has been incredible and comforting,' Nick Hogan wrote on Instagram. 'My dad was the most incredible person I've ever known and will always be my hero.' 3 Nick Hogan (c.) and his wife before WWE 'Monday Night Raw' in Detroit. @RealAmericanBeer/Instagram Advertisement 3 Hulk and Nick Hogan Nick Hogan/Instagram 'I spent a lot of time with him the past few years after moving back to Florida to be closer to him and I am so grateful for those memories,' Nick Hogan wrote in his Instagram post. 'They are the best moments in my life. I would do anything to have him back but I know now that he will always be watching over me. I will always remember the lessons and advice he gave me and carry on in a way that I know would make him proud. Hulk Hogan was the 'Babe Ruth' of wrestling, leading the then-WWF, along with former owner Vince McMahon, into national prominence in the 1980s. In the mid-90's his heel turn and the formation of the nWo faction in WCW was a catalyst for the legendary 'Monday Night Wars' that brought pro wrestling to it greatest level of awareness in pop culture. Hulk Hogan's daughter Brooke, has been estranged from her dad in recent years.

Would This GH Alum Make the Perfect Summer Newman? See What Y&R Fans Think

Sofia Mattsson is out from her role at General Hospital. Fans of The Young and the Restless would love to see her recast in the role of Summer Newman. Find out why they think she'd be perfect for the gig, aside from her similar good looks. Meet The New Summer Newman? Over on Reddit, one Y&R fan shared a headshot of Mattsson along with the question, 'With Sofia Mattsson leaving GH, do you think she would make a good Summer Newman?' She kind of looks like Lanier, who previously held the role. Lanier left the CBS soap in early May. Fans took to the thread to share their thoughts. READ NOW: Learn more about the General Hospital casting shocker. Most are on board with the idea. They would love to see a new Summer, who's all grown up. One fan wrote, 'She'd be the most adult of the Summers so far. I think she'd knock it out of the park and be amazing.' However, that same fan added, 'The thing is – I LOVED her as Sasha. She had grown to be one of my favourite characters on that show. She'd be great as Summer – but I hope she returns at some point as Sasha again.' Other GH fans are mourning Sasha's death. One blunt Redditor commented, 'I'm pissed that she's leaving the show. She's one of the only characters I actually like.' A third fan remarked, 'Wow, visually she would be a seamless recast,' to which another added, 'I would love for her to take in the role of Summer Newman!!! She's a doll!!' Whole New Role? As previously stated, not all fans love this idea. One fan wrote, 'No, she deserves to be on a better show.' Meanwhile, another user noted, 'If she goes to Y&R, it should be in a new role and not a recast of Summer.' One fan remarked, 'She looks too old to be Summer,' to which another corrected them, 'She's actually younger than last Summer, lol.' READ NEXT: Allison Lanier out as Summer Newman on Y&R. Another plus is that Mattsson has already acted with Michelle Stafford when she was on GH. Fans already know these two have chemistry. It would be fun to see Mattsson and Stafford as mother and daughter on Y&R. Hopefully, the show will consider this idea even if a recast isn't on the radar right now. What are your thoughts?
