Leonardo DiCaprio 'has a desire to be more honest'
The Hollywood star celebrated his landmark birthday in November 2024, and he admits that it's prompted a change in attitude.
Speaking to Esquire UK, the movie star explained: "It [turning 50] creates a feeling like you have a desire to just be more honest and not waste your time.
"I can only imagine how the next few decades are going to progress. I look at my mother, for example, and she just says exactly what she thinks and wastes no time. She spends no time trying to fake it."
DiCaprio is determined to not waste any time moving forwards. Despite this, the actor acknowledges that he risks "having things fall apart" because of his honest approach.
He said: "Being more upfront and risking having things fall apart or risking the disagreements or risking going your separate ways from any type of relationship in life — the personal, the professional — it's that you don't want to waste your time any more. You have to just be much more upfront. It's almost a responsibility, because much more of your life is behind you than it is ahead of you."
DiCaprio has enjoyed a hugely successful career in Hollywood, starring movies such as Titanic, The Aviator, The Departed, and The Revenant. But the actor also strives to strike a healthy work-life balance.
He said: "I think I'm good at it because I take a lot of time off between films.
"I do things more sparingly, which means you're anxious to get back to your real life once you've finished filming. Life goes on hold when you're filming. Everything stops and gets put on the back burner in your real life."
DiCaprio feels fortunate that he can pick and choose his film projects.
The award-winning star - who is one of the world's highest-paid actors - shared: "I might be more concerned if I worked too much. To go from film to film, I would be scared about what I have to come back to. I'm very fortunate for that."
The Autumn issue of Esquire UK is out on 14 August

‘Give it up': Leonardo DiCaprio is being ruthlessly mocked for revealing how old he feels
The king of not dating people his own age, Leonardo DiCaprio, is being ruthlessly mocked after announcing that he feels like he is...... 32. The 50-year-old Academy Award winner, who predominantly dates women in their early 20s, made the grand reveal during an interview with Esquire, when director, Paul Thomas Anderson, asked DiCaprio how old he felt. 'If you didn't know how old you are, how old are you right now?' The director asked. DiCaprio responded, '32.' He later joked in the same interview that he 'emotionally turned 35 last year,' which I suppose means he wants to make it clear he doesn't have the average emotional maturity of a 50-year-old man. We could have all seen that coming: a guy who spends most of his free time strutting around on yachts with models doesn't precisely scream 'emotionally developed,' but what compelled him to admit it will remain a mystery. It is amusing that even if DiCaprio feels 32, that doesn't even make him the same age as his Italian model girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti. In fact, they'd still be considered an age-gap romance; she's 27 now, but when they started dating, she was 24. It's hard to know if DiCaprio felt 32 when he was in his late 40s, or if the mental age of 32 is a new perspective now that he is 50. Did he feel like he was 28 when he was 49? The Inception star has a long history of dating women noticeably younger than him, and considerably younger than his mental age of 32. Before Ceretti, he dated Gigi Hadid in 2022; she was 27 at the time, and he was rapidly approaching 50. Before he was canoodling with that particular supermodel, he was dating … you guessed it, another model. Camila Morrone and the pair broke up either just before or just after she turned 25; the timeline is unclear, but DiCaprio was in his late 40s during that affair. The movie star has also been linked to a bunch of other models throughout the 2000s, all of whom were in their 20s, while he was in his late 30s and 40s. They include German model Toni Garrn, American model Kelly Rohrbach and Danish model Nina Agdal. The movie star has a type, and it is models half his age; even if you consider the fact that he feels 32, most of his girlfriends have been in their early 20s. The man isn't even in having an appropriate age-gap romance mentally. DiCaprio's history of dating women in their early 20 has become notorious to the point it has become a pop culture meme. When pop singer Sabrina Carpenter turned 25, her cake was frosted with a meme of DiCaprio's face that reads, 'no don't 25, you're so sexy', a reference to the fact that he often doesn't date women above that age. DiCaprio's revelation that he only feels like a man in his early 30s, rather than his actual age, has not gone down well. In fact, he is being brutally mocked over it. People are genuinely worried that it is a line he uses with women he is dating, so they feel less awkward about the fact he is often old enough to be the father of the women he dates. 'That doesn't make dating women below 25 any less creepy,' one wrote. Someone else claimed it sounded like a 'tactic' he used to justify hooking up with women way younger than him. Smeone else joked 'give it up Grandpa' another said he was clearly using the fact he feels younger as an 'excuse' to date younger women. 'That is funny because emotionally 35 is still 10 years younger than anyone he's dated,' another joked. 'Straight man is emotionally immature. Groundbreaking stuff,' someone else said. 'He has a problematic age gap with himself,' another quipped. DiCaprio's age-gap romance with himself certainly isn't doing him any favours, at least, not when with people his own age.

‘Almost did it': Biggest regret of Leo's career
Leonardo DiCaprio has one big regret about his career. 'I'll say it even though you're here: My biggest regret is not doing Boogie Nights, DiCaprio, 50, told Paul Thomas Anderson, who directed the 1997 epic, during an Esquire interview published Wednesday. 'It was a profound movie of my generation,' DiCaprio said, adding, 'I can't imagine anyone but Mark (Wahlberg) in it.' The Hollywood icon told Anderson, 55, that he thought Boogie Nights was 'a masterpiece' when he saw it for the first time. 'It's ironic that you're the person asking that question,' DiCaprio said to the director, 'but it's true.' DiCaprio turned down the role of Eddie Adams/Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights to play Jack in James Cameron's disaster film Titanic. Wahlberg, 54, took the lead role in Anderson's film about a young nightclub dishwasher who becomes a porn star. The movie, which was nominated for three Oscars, also stars Julianne Moore, Burt Reynolds, Don Cheadle, John C. Reilly, William H. Macy, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Heather Graham. In 2008, DiCaprio spoke to GQ about choosing Titanic over Boogie Nights. 'I'm not saying I would have,' he said when asked if he could go back and change his decision. 'But it would have been a different direction, careerwise. 'I think they're both great and wish I could have done them both.' 'I would have been happy to do them both,' the Oscar winner added at the time. 'And the truth is, if I'd not done Titanic, I wouldn't be able to do the types of movies or have the career I have now, for sure. 'But it would have been interesting to see if I had gone the other way.' DiCaprio, who is starring in Anderson's upcoming action thriller One Battle After Another, told the director that he 'rarely' watches his own films, but he's seen The Aviator the most. 'That's simply because it was such a special moment to me,' he said of starring in the Howard Hughes biopic. 'I had worked with Marty (Scorsese) on Gangs of New York, and I'd been toting around a book on Howard Hughes for 10 years. 'I almost did it with Michael Mann, but there was a conflict and I ended up bringing it to Marty,' DiCaprio said. 'I was thirty,' DiCaprio recalled. 'It was the first time as an actor I got to feel implicitly part of the production, rather than just an actor hired to play a role.' 'I felt responsible in a whole new way,' DiCaprio said. 'I've always felt proud and connected to that film as such a key part of my growing up in this industry and taking on a role of a real collaborator for the first time.' The Don't Look Up actor also explained how he's made it a point to not overwork himself at this point in his career. 'I do things more sparingly, which means you're anxious to get back to your real life once you've finished filming,' DiCaprio told Anderson. 'Life goes on hold when you're filming. Everything stops and gets put on the back burner in your real life. 'I might be more concerned if I worked too much. 'To go from film to film, I would be scared about what do I have to come back to?' he added. 'I'm very fortunate for that.'

Leonardo DiCaprio swept up in Ibiza stop-and-search drama as Travis Scott was reportedly denied entry
Leonardo DiCaprio and his entourage have been held up by Spanish police before entering an exclusive tequila event at a private villa, according to a video obtained by the Daily Mail. A woman in the background of the footage could be heard saying: ''They are searching me full-on right now.' It is not known if the woman speaking was DiCaprio's girlfriend, 27-year-old model Vittoria Ceretti, who was with him in Ibiza. But an insider told Page Six that the A-list actor wasn't singled out by police. A source told the outlet: 'Every single person was patted down and ID'd. 'The Spanish cops just didn't initially recognise DiCaprio. 'It's funny, they did a double-take and then he went in!' DiCaprio was seen dressed in an all-black outfit with his signature baseball cap and chain, and appeared absorbed in his phone while waiting for his turn to be searched. Other celebrities at the party included Kendall Jenner and DiCaprio's longtime friend Tobey Maguire, while Travis Scott was reportedly denied entry. DiCaprio has long been a regular visitor to Ibiza, returning repeatedly over the years for leisure and private events. Earlier in August, he and Ceretti were photographed boarding the mega yacht of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, also on the Spanish island. The couple had previously attended the couple's wedding in Venice, Italy, in June, during which Vittoria experienced a wardrobe malfunction in her vintage Dolce Gabbana dress. DiCaprio and the Italian-born model have been linked since the summer of 2023. She has spoken about the challenges of public perception in high-profile relationships. Ceretti told Vogue France in March: 'As soon as you're in a relationship with someone who has a larger following than you, you become 'girlfriend of' – or 'boyfriend of,' for that matter. 'And that can be extremely annoying. 'Suddenly, people are talking about you as so-and-so's girlfriend who was so-and-so's ex. So it's not nice to think that you can't love whoever you want, because of the labels people need to stick on you.'
