Ludhiana influencer's murder: Two accused sent to 14-day judicial remand
The accused, Nihangs, were produced in the court amid tight security.
The two associates of the alleged mastermind in the crime, Amritpal Singh Mehron, were arrested by the Bathinda police on June 13.
A local court granted their police custody for five days for questioning.
Police said that Kanchan was killed by the three due to 'unauthorised moral policing' as the accused claimed that digital content created by the deceased was immoral and hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.
Bathinda senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amneet Kondal said on Wednesday that the district police would soon submit a report to the Bureau of Investigation (BoI) to process it further to Mehron's extradition from the UAE to face trial in the murder case.
'It is a complicated process, and we are still in the process of completing the required documents,' she said.
The SSP said that two mobile phones of the deceased, including an iPhone, and the passwords of the handsets were forcibly taken away from Kanchan before she was strangled.
'During the custodial interrogation, Jaspreet and Nimratjit feigned ignorance and we suspect that the two phones of the deceased are still in Mehron's possession,' she added.
Meanwhile, Bathinda-based lawyer Harpal Singh Khara, who is representing the arrested duo in the court, told reporters that video showing Mehron claiming responsibility for the murder could have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI).
'We suspect a conspiracy by agencies behind it. Mehron's family has approached me to represent him in the court,' said Khara, who was accompanied by Mehron's father Baljinder Singh.
Mehron, also a Nihang, flew to the UAE within hours of the murder of Kanchan on the intervening night of June 9-10.
As per the Bathinda police, Mehron boarded a UAE-bound flight from Amritsar airport at 9.15 am on June 10. The police learnt about the escape of Mehron after a lookout circular (LOC) was issued against him on June 14.
Kanchan's decomposed body was found by the police on the evening of June 11 after a few people spotted a foul was emanating from the vehicle abandoned at the parking of Adesh medical college and hospital at Bhucho town.

Intruder robs woman of phones worth over Rs 1 lakh at Bengaluru PG facility
An unidentified man broke into a women's paying guest facility in northeastern Bengaluru, misbehaved with a Bescom employee, and made away with her mobile phones worth over Rs 1 lakh, the Yelahanka police said on Wednesday. The police said that the incident occurred between 3 and 3.30 pm on Monday at a women's paying guest facility in Judicial Layout near Yelahanka, where the woman had moved just 15 days before. According to the FIR, the woman was alone in her third-floor room when she heard knocks on the door. As she opened the door, an unidentified man forced his way inside, held a knife to her throat, and demanded she remove her gold bangle while also touching her inappropriately. When the woman couldn't remove the jewellery, the attacker demanded money and items from her vanity bag, which was lying on the bed. As he moved toward the bag, the woman screamed and ran into the washroom, locking herself inside. By the time the woman emerged from the washroom, the intruder had fled with a OnePlus phone worth Rs 30,000 and an iPhone valued at Rs 75,000, according to her complaint. A police officer said that it was unclear whether other residents of the PG facility were present during the incident. The police have launched an investigation and are analysing CCTV footage to identify the suspect. The investigators particularly focus on determining how the man had gained entry and whether he knew the victim beforehand, given his knowledge of her room's location within the facility. 'We're questioning PG staff about security measures and examining how this breach occurred,' said a police officer. The police are also investigating whether adequate safety protocols were in place at the facility. The police have registered the case under section 311 (robbery or dacoity when the offender attempts to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a manhunt for the suspect.

ED raids against Rohtas Projects for ₹248-crore 'fraud' with home buyers
NEW DELHI | LUCKNOW: The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday conducted searches against an Uttar Pradesh-based realty group as part of a money laundering probe against it for allegedly duping investors to the tune of Rs 248 crore, official sources said. At least eight premises in Lucknow and two in Delhi are being searched in the case against Rohtas Projects Ltd., the sources said. The action is being carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act ( PMLA ), they said. The money laundering case stems from as many as 87 FIRs filed by home/commercial space buyers since 2021 alleging they were duped and not given their properties. As per a forensic audit conducted by the UP RERA (Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority), the "proceeds of crime" in this case is Rs 248 crore, the sources said. The searches are being conducted with an aim to find evidence and the assets of the promoters for attachment as they are "absconding" since the last four years, the sources claimed. The promoters of the company have been identified as Piyush Rastogi , Paresh Rastogi and Deepak Rastogi. The promoters or their legal representatives could not be contacted immediately for a comment on the ED action against them.

Delhi: Man linked to attack on rapper Badshah's Chandigarh club arrested
Agency: New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) The Delhi Police's Special Cell has arrested a man in connection with the attack on a Chandigarh-based club owned by popular rapper Badshah, police sources said on Wednesday. On November 27 last year, two blasts occurred in two clubs located in Chandigarh's Sector 26. The accused, identified as Deepak, a resident of Faridkot in Punjab, was apprehended from Delhi, said the source. Deepak was allegedly in constant touch with Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, the source added, noting that the investigation indicated that the attack was allegedly planned at the behest of Brar. The accused is being interrogated, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
