'Love you Namjoon': BTS' RM shares heartbreaking stories about military, problems at HYBE; ARMY sends virtual hugs and healing

Time of Indiaa day ago

Just a day earlier, on June 10, BTS members RM and V were officially discharged from their mandatory military service. While fans across the globe rejoiced at their return, it was RM's emotional reflections that quickly captured widespread attention — especially after he went live to speak directly to ARMY.
After greeting ARMY upon his discharge, BTS leader RM aka Kim Namjoon went live later that night to connect with fans on a deeper level. His candid remarks about his military experience — and how the ongoing tension at HYBE had affected him — sparked a wave of reactions online, including heartfelt sympathy and growing frustration directed at things that contributed to his struggles.
RM speaks about the HYBE conflict
During the livestream, RM spoke openly about the physical and emotional toll his military service had taken on him. He revealed that amid corporate unrest at HYBE — particularly around April and May of the previous year, just before the release of his solo album Right Place, Wrong Person — he began suffering from severe insomnia.
"Last year, the company went through a lot," he shared. "Around April and May, before RPWP came out, I was struck with insomnia. In the military, you're sleeping with 20 other guys, right next to you — snoring, grinding their teeth. There was a time I didn't get a single minute of sleep for two days — almost 78 hours. I remember thinking, 'Oh, I'm going to die at this rate.' I had to keep up with the daily schedule, but I was running on nothing. I'd lie down, but I just couldn't fall asleep. Those with insomnia know what I mean — you're exhausted, but the sleep never comes."
🐨: To be honest I'm still scared of the night even now. I'm scared of the fact that I have to sleep. Lying down and being still for 3 to 4 hours is truly hell.🐨: Hence even now I'm scared of the night. Also there were a lot of times when I came out on vacation, drank a lot and… https://t.co/pf7PDOz7vr pic.twitter.com/AMwG7fWSJi
The timing of RM's struggles aligned with a particularly chaotic period for HYBE, including the still-unfolding conflict with ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin and her group NewJeans — further deepening fans' concern over how much external pressure he may have been under.
RM's take on military life
He also opened up about the psychological toll of his service, admitting that he frequently questioned his own resilience while trying to maintain perspective. RM shared that even now, the experience continues to impact him.
"I've always been sensitive, and I've accepted that about myself. But while I was in the military, I kept asking, 'Why are you so weak? Haven't you been through worse? Why are you struggling now — with sleep, with military life?' I kept telling myself to be better, to be stronger. I used to be so optimistic… I was Mr. 'Why Not?' But that doesn't really work in the army. I'm trying to bounce back."
🐨: At the training camp our officers asked me to take care of Taehyung. Because Taehyung is such a unique and lovable guy, like you know how he lives in his own world?🐨: Meanwhile I'm sensitive and read the room a lot so I'm more alert/sharp in that way.🐨: We are both squad… pic.twitter.com/auzHiKDGJl
ARMY express support — and frustration
Clips from RM's livestream quickly went viral, sparking widespread concern over what he had silently endured. Many questioned whether his struggles were intensified not only by the demanding conditions of military life but also by the internal turmoil within HYBE — the very company meant to support him.
In the wake of the broadcast, fans flooded social media with an outpouring of love, virtual hugs, and unwavering support. Yet, alongside the empathy came frustration — directed not just at the harsh realities of military service, but also at figures like Min Hee Jin, whose conflict with HYBE unfolded during the same turbulent period.

Siddhant Chaturvedi romances When the Phone Rings star Chae So Bin in new video, fans react: ‘K-drama meets Mumbai rains'

The Bollywood-K-drama crossover nobody saw coming. Siddhant Chaturvedi recently teamed up with South Korean actor Chae So Bin for a footwear ad shot in Mumbai, and the internet nearly branded it AI-generated before realising the commercial was as real as So Bin flying down to India for the shoot. The K-drama star recently shot to fame with her Netflix series When the Phone Rings alongside Yoo Yeon Seok. Her collaboration with the Gully Boy star was kept under wraps until the video suddenly exploded on social media. Also read: BTS' RM says mental health worsened amid HYBE issues, had to rely on pills: 'I cried all night, kept saying I was going to die' The commercial serves up every romance cliché Bollywood and K-dramas are known for — rainy days, umbrellas, and the classic accidental run-ins. The video shows the duo stepping out for a rainy day date, packed with splashes, slips, and umbrella-sharing moments, textbook K-drama romance, only this time with a very Mumbai monsoon spin. The scene opens with Chae So Bin walking in the rain holding her white umbrella. Siddhant's car drives past, splashing water all over her white Crocs. She shoots him an annoyed glare. He steps out, regret written all over his face, trying to fix his car's tyre. As she walks away, she suddenly pauses, watches him getting soaked, and then steps back, covering him with her umbrella. He looks up, she chuckles, the perfect meet-cute. This comes after weeks of buzz about the K-drama star shooting something in India. Earlier, photos from the set had gone viral, sparking wild fan theories, until it was finally revealed to be an ad for American footwear brand. The video started gaining traction after Crocs Japan dropped it midweek. The caption read, 'Even rainy days are like love, let's enjoy 🌈.' One wrote, 'Korean actor × Indian actor × Japanese account × English song. What a collab.' Another joked, 'What in the multiverse is this?' A third chimed in, 'Please tell me they actually went on a date together, oh please.' A fourth said, 'This is the closest to world peace we'll ever get, Korea, India, Japan, America.' Some even started rallying for them to get cast together in a project. Chae So Bin debuted in 2014 with My Dictator and grabbed the spotlight with Love in the Moonlight. She went on to headline hit K-dramas like Strongest Deliveryman, I'm Not a Robot, and Where Stars Land. But it was her Netflix breakout When the Phone Rings that made her a household name. In the drama, she plays a mute anchor who uses sign interpretation. Meanwhile, Siddhant is a Bollywood regular with leading roles in films like Shakun Batra's Gehraiyaan, Phone Bhoot, and more.

'I'm still scared of the night,' RM's statement gets misinterpreted amid NJZ and Min Hee Jin's controversy; fans react

BTS RM , along with members V, Jimin, and Jungkook , were all recently discharged from their mandatory military service. On his first livestream after returning to civilian life, RM detailed how much he used to struggle in the army and how he struggled with issues like insomnia during his service. Shortly after, a Korean article went viral, using his words out of context and linking him to the ongoing NewJeans and Min Hee Jin case. RM opens up about his mental health during the military After being discharged, BTS RM held a solo live stream to directly interact with fans and connect with them after his discharge. Throughout the live, the singer discussed his experience in the military and how difficult it had been for him to cope with everything over the past 18 months. He shared how he suffered from mental health issues and insomnia, and how the act of sleeping itself has started to scare him. He detailed that 'To be honest, I'm still scared of the night even now. I'm scared of the fact that I have to sleep. Lying down and being still for 3 to 4 hours is truly hell.' He continued that he had to go to a doctor to get medication to sleep properly. The leader of the group also pointed out how he was advised by his doctor that the issues may be occurring due to military, so to get better and lower his medication, RM has been trying to get back to his normal schedule. 'To be honest, half of my diary is filled with my sleep problem story. Because I really couldn't sleep,' he also added. RM's words taken out of context, linked to NewJeans and Min Hee Jin Soon after the clips from RM's live stream went viral online, an article popped up on a popular Korean media outlet that linked the member's words to the ongoing case with NewJeans, sparking major outrage. According to Koreaboo, the now-deleted article talked about RM opening up about his mental health and time in the military, and connected it to him being 'stressed' about the ongoing case with NewJeans, Min Hee Jin and the group's former label. RM mentioned that he started suffering from sleep issues in April-May last year, which was directly related to the ongoing case. The article stated that 'The period RM referred to—April 2023—was when tensions between HYBE and former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin were at their peak. At the time, HYBE launched an audit and filed a criminal complaint against Min for an alleged breach of trust regarding management control over ADOR. ' Fans outraged at viral article react strongly online The article faced a lot of backlash from netizens and fans alike who flooded the comment section under the article with their opinions. One stated that 'The level of trash journalism, wow,' while another commented, 'Wow, that headline is something else.' People called out the publishers and the journalist involved in writing the article and criticised them for taking the idol's words out of context.

His stadium concerts at Vancouver's BC Place and Toronto's Rogers Centre were billed as "the biggest Punjabi music events held outside India". He had also graced the cover of a special edition of Billboard Canada, as well as Global No. 1's digital cover of Billboard in 2024. He was also the first Punjabi artist to perform at the 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, marking a major milestone for representing Punjabi music on a global stage. About The Billboard Summit In Toronto It is indeed a special moment with the Billboard Summit coming to Toronto for the first time. Its launch at NXNE marks Billboard's 30th anniversary. The event hosted a slew of artist-led conversations and workshops, where music was put as the source from which every discussion stems at the event. View this post on Instagram A post shared by TEAM DOSANJH (@teamdiljitglobal) Panos A Panay told Billboard Canada, "It's a special opportunity because music is universal. For the first 50, 60, and even 70 years of the modern music industry, it's been primarily dominated by an Anglo-American lens. I think we're at a juncture now where more and more music from artists who don't speak English is not just breaking through in regional markets, but also on a global stage. The fact that we can use a multicultural city like Toronto as a platform to send that message - that's what makes it so meaningful." In A Nutshell The Billboard Summit was launched in Canada on June 11, 2025. Diljit Dosanjh scripted history once again, as he sat down for a special interview with Panos A Panay, President of the Recording Academy, the organisation behind the Grammys at NXNE in Toronto's TIFF Lightbox.
