Adityanath 'lacks courage' to face farmers on ground: Akhilesh Yadav
Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Monday (June 9, 2025) criticised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for conducting an aerial survey of crops, saying he "lacked the courage" to confront angry farmers on the ground.
Mr. Adityanath had carried out an aerial survey of maize crop on Sunday (June 8, 2025).
In a post on X, Mr. Yadav took a swipe at Mr. Adityanath's survey, saying it was not time constraints but fear of public anger that kept him away from meeting farmers directly. The former Chief Minister did not name anyone in the post but posted a news report of the survey.

"Those doing aerial surveys for agriculture are not short of time, but short of the 'courage' required to face the farmers' anger on the ground," Mr. Yadav wrote in Hindi.
He further questioned the effectiveness of such surveys, asking whether stray cattle — a major issue for farmers in the State — can even be seen from such heights.
"Farmers are asking, can stray animals be seen from such an altitude?" he posted.
The remarks come amid growing complaints from farmers about crop damage due to unseasonal rains and the menace of stray cattle, an issue that has remained a concern in rural Uttar Pradesh.

‘Authoritarian' BJP wants to unleash anarchy in UP elections: Akhilesh
1 2 Lucknow: Cautioning the party cadre of BJP's plans to "unleash anarchy" during the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said the saffron party is "riddled with authoritarian mindset and conduct". "BJP has become a challenge for the Indian Constitution because its very character is undemocratic. The BJP functionaries and cadre have unleashed anarchy by their actions like grabbing land from the possession of the poor. The BJP now stands for 'Bhu-mafia Party'. The entire BJP govt is indulging in grabbing whatever it can lay its hands upon," Akhilesh said, addressing party functionaries and workers at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia auditorium at party headquarters in Lucknow. "Robberies, murders and rape of minor girls have become the order of the day as the govt has failed to control crime, particularly against women and girl child," he said. Acknowledging the efforts of the party cadre and foot soldiers on ground, Akhilesh said the SP functionaries were braving the scorching summer sun to reach out to the people and inform them about the failures of the BJP. "Despite mercury soaring beyond 42 degrees Celsius during the day, our partymen are going from door to door to share the sentiments of almost every section of the society which is unhappy with the BJP govt," Akhilesh said, adding that such dedicated efforts would ensure the party's reach in every corner of the state and beyond. "SP is fighting the BJP at every front, be it failure of the govt in the state as well as the Centre, and at the ideological level as well. We will continue to do so to keep up with the commitment we have with the people and work hard to play a constructive role in taking UP on the path of development once again, like we did during the erstwhile SP govt," he said. 'Beware the ides of June' Lucknow: A cryptic social media post from Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has triggered a buzz in the corridors of power about some political developments in the BJP around June 15. A couplet posted by Akhilesh on X in Hindi, read: "15 June ko shrey lene ki Bhajpai yukti, kisi ki niyukti to kisi ki vimukti (June 15 will see BJP's mechanism of taking credit for appointing some, liberating some others)." In political circles, the post is being seen in the light of the three-day national level training camp of the BJP being organised for its lawmakers in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh.

Tech could help process Census data within 9 months; mobile apps to be used for count
NEW DELHI: Final population data from Census 2027 may be available as early as the end of 2027, thanks to the 'digital' mode being introduced for capturing and processing datasets in the upcoming exercise. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sources in the govt indicated that unlike Census 2011 when it took almost a couple of years for the final population data to be published at the national, state, district and taluk levels, complete with the gender-wise break-up, govt estimates that the time lag between completion of Census in early March 2027 and release of final population data could be as little as nine months. Govt had recently announced March 1, 2027, as the new reference date for the upcoming Census. Though due to start in 2020, the Covid pandemic forced the govt to put the decadal exercise on hold. Census enumerators to use app to collect data Census 2027 will be held in two phases - the house-listing phase in 2026, followed by population enumeration phase in Feb 2027. For the first time, Census data will be collected digitally, using mobile phone apps in 16 languages (Hindi, English and 14 regional languages). These apps are designed to be simple and user-friendly for both the enumerators and citizens, since the latter will also have the option to self-enumerate, the sources said. Enumerators will no longer have to carry bulky paper schedules to the field. With tech use, data to be ready instantly The Census schedules will contain mostly pre-coded responses. On the mobile apps, various options would be available from the dropdown menu. The apps provide a fetching facility to go to a pre-filled Census house record and permit editing the same. The applications will reduce the burden of preparing abstracts, summaries and duplication of other associated work. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now With the help of mobile apps and intelligent character recognition (ICR) data processing mostly used to organise unstructured data, the entire data will be instantly ready for processing without extra logistics of schedules. For the first time, a separate code directory will be provided for enabling easy data collection in respect of several questions asked in the second phase of Census (population enumeration). For questions involving descriptive/non-numeric entries, a separate code directory containing possible responses and codes for each possible answer has been prepared. In tune with digital census, a census management and monitoring system (CMMS) portal has been developed by the Office of RGI for smooth conduct, management and monitoring of the exercise.

Video of TMC councillor's street brawl with another woman goes viral, she blames ‘reckless driving'
After a video of a street brawl involving two women, one being a TMC councillor, went viral, Panihati municipal authorities in North 24 Parganas said the incident would be investigated, and appropriate action would be taken. Local TMC councillor Srabanti Roy, however, said she would not file a police complaint against the other woman, citing her young age, and added that the brawl happened after the young woman's Scooty hit her bike. In the viral video, the councillor is seen slapping a young woman, who retaliates by grabbing Roy's hair and hitting her. As passersby watch, the two women fight, oblivious to attempts by locals to intervene. The two women were eventually stopped from fighting by traffic police. The incident reportedly took place on Monday near Panihati Mahotsavtala Ghat. Roy is councillor of Ward No. 26 in Panihati municipality. Roy on Wednesday told mediapersons that the confrontation began when the young woman's Scooty allegedly hit her bike. Roy claimed that she dismounted to protest and warn the young woman about 'reckless driving'. 'I consider it my duty as a public representative to warn her. But the young woman responded with abuse and took my bike keys. As I protested, I was attacked,' Roy said. 'A section of the media is making a big deal out of my slapping the young woman. But in the video, you can clearly see her actions,' she said. Roy said she was not keen to file a police complaint against the woman, as 'she is young, and I don't want any repercussions for her. However, the Opposition BJP used the incident to accuse the TMC of 'goondaism' and claimed that people were 'no more afraid of the ruling party'. 'This is not a mere scuffle between two women. The lady in white salwar kameez is an elected representative. She is the TMC councillor Srabanti Roy. Good to see that people are not bowing down under TMC's fear and rather standing up against this sort of goondaism,' BJP leader Keya Ghosh wrote on X.
