EA Reviving College Basketball Series After College Football Broke Records

EA Reviving College Basketball Series After College Football Broke Records

Yahoo5 days ago
Fans of digital college basketball, get excited. Electronic Arts has officially announced that it is bringing back its college basketball franchise, though it might be a while before you get to play it.
On June 30, EA Sports posted on social media a simple, short message that promised a lot: 'Bring the Madness. Let's run it back. #CBB #ItsInTheGame' The CBB likely stands for 'College Basketball.' Alongside this message, EA posted a photo of a basketball with the EA Sports logo slapped on it. The post is clearly a tease for a new college basketball game developed and published by EA.
Matt Brown of Extra Points reported that the new game won't be called 'NCAA Basketball' but might instead be called EA Sports College Basketball. The NCAA will still be involved in the game as a 'licensing partner.' The upcoming college basketball game is reportedly still early in development and likely won't be out until 2028. Insider Gaming further corroborated this possible release window.

Kotaku hasreached out to EA Sports for more information on the game.
2009's NCAA Basketball 10 was the last EA Sports-published college basketball game. Since then, fans had hoped EA (or 2K, which published a few college ball games around 2006) would bring the franchise back. In 2024, reports surfaced that both EA and 2K were internally discussing potential college basketball games.
The return of collegiate b-ball at EA is likely happening because EA Sports College Football 25 was a massive success for the publisher. That game became the best-selling sports game in history in less than a year. It was also one of the top-selling games in 2024. Even more impressive, according to Mat Piscatella, executive director and video game industry advisor at Circana, last year's college football game has already landed in the top 50 best-selling games of all time in the United States. So yeah, you can see why EA might be interested in doing a college basketball game again.

Denzel Aberdeen details ‘no-brainer' decision to transfer to Wildcats

The post Denzel Aberdeen details 'no-brainer' decision to transfer to Wildcats appeared first on ClutchPoints. The SEC dominated college basketball this season, culminating in an NCAA Tournament record of 14 out of 16 teams making the tournament. Florida won a thriller against the Houston Cougars in the National Championship and won their third championship ever as a program. Denzel Aberdeen was a key piece for the Gators off the bench, but he recently transferred to a fellow SEC rival, the Kentucky Wildcats. The Gators were juggernauts, and Aberdeen was a massive glue guy who helped them get things settled when they needed it, but he could not jump to starting in Florida, so he transferred to Kentucky. He spoke with Daniel Hager of On3 about his decision to transfer from Gainesville and join the Kentucky basketball team. He mentioned how it was an easy decision and that it did not take much time to decide on heading to Lexington. 'It was pretty quick,' Aberdeen responded about Kentucky and the transfer portal. 'They called and I told my dad, 'This is the school I want to be at.' I just saw all the people who came in and out of this school and all the great players. My main goal is to make it to the NBA, and just seeing how this school has shown transfer guys how to be great men on and off the court is something I want to achieve. When they called, I was like 'man, I gotta go here.' Kentucky is one of the best programs in college basketball, and there was not much of a fall-off between John Calipari leaving for Arkansas and Mark Pope taking over as head coach of his alma mater. Calipari created an NBA factory in Lexington with players like Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, John Wall, and Karl-Anthony Towns, to name a few. Still, Pope got two players drafted this year: Koby Brea and Amari Williams. Brea also said he was the best shooter in the draft before it even started. Aberdeen elaborated more, 'Playing for coach [Mark] Pope, obviously another National Champion, and just the school itself and the people and the atmosphere here… It's wild. I've been watching on TV, and we played against them last year here, and it was wild. When they called, it was pretty much a no-brainer for me. I was like Man, I gotta do it. I'm ready.' Aberdeen is the perfect guard to embody Kentucky basketball. The Mark Pope style of offense is fast and run-and-gun, with a lot of focus on shooting, and as long as Aberdeen polishes his shot, he should succeed for the Wildcats.

Where Oregon Ducks rank among top teams in EA Sports College Football 26

The EA Sports College Football 26 video game is set to drop in a matter of weeks, so new details and trailers have been pouring out over the last months as fans prepare to dive back into the beloved gaming franchise and get onto the digital gridiron. On Friday, the team rankings were released for the top 25 squads in the game, giving us a preview of who the best units will be in the game based on the overall rankings. Unsurprisingly, some of the teams at the top of the rankings are who you would expect — Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Texas, etc. Advertisement But where do the Oregon Ducks fall? Down at No. 9. Here is a look at the full rankings: It may be surprising to see the Ducks behind schools like Texas A&M and Clemson. Still, it's fair to acknowledge that there's some "need-to-see-it" skepticism surrounding Oregon going into 2025 with a new quarterback under center and a predominantly young and unproven roster, as talented as it may be. In a majority of preseason rankings and polls, the Ducks are positioned higher on the list, typically between the 5-8 range; however, according to EA Sports, they sit lower on the list.
