Eagles stars' divide deepens as Saquon Barkley shares special White House moment with Ivanka Trump's son
Although at least 13 Eagles stars were notably absent from the NFL franchise's customary celebratory audience with the president, there was one player in attendance who had a particularly impactful presence.
Saquon Barkley, who earlier in the day had fired back at critics of his visit with Donald Trump at the weekend, not only split from his teammates, including Jalen Hurts, in attending the visit but also shared a special moment with Theodore Kushner - the nine-year-old grandson of the president.
The First Daughter shared a video to social media of the youngster racing across the White House lawn with the running back.
The pair were captured tossing the pigskin around before Theodore challenged the NFL star - one of the fastest in the league - to a race.
'Celebrating with champions at the White House today!' Ivanka wrote in the caption. 'Congratulations to the [Eagles] on an amazing season and Super Bowl win!
'My highlight of the day? Theo challenging [Barkley] to a race in the Rose Garden after my father wisely demurred! Thanks Saquon for being such a great sport!'
Barkley is no stranger to the Trump family, having cozied up to Ivanka, her husband Jared Kushner, and their 11-year-old son Joseph at the annual JP Morgan tech 100 summit at the beginning of the month.
The offensive star was also seen alongside Trump at his Trump National golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey at the weekend and traveled with the President on Marine One.
An image shared to social media shows Barkley, Trump and several others sitting around a table together, with the President and Eagles player sitting next to one another.
There were also several 'Make America Great Again' hats stacked on the table, though Barkley was not wearing one.
Inevitably, Trump's ardent critics were quick to pile in on Barkley as he spent time with the most powerful man in the land and by Monday morning, the Eagles hero had had enough.
'Lol some people are really upset cause I played golfed and flew to the White House with the PRESIDENT,' Barkley wrote on X.
'Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand. Just golfed with Obama not too long ago…and look forward to finishing my round with Trump!
'Now ya get out my mentions with all this politics and have amazing day.'
The Kushners have been less visible during the early stages of Trump's second term in office but haven't fail to seize the chance to mingle with sporting royalty.
In March, Miami Dolphins stars Tua Tagovailova and Braxton Berrios spent time with Ivanka's family.
In another Instagram post, she revealed that the members of the Dolphins had enjoyed a day with Kushner and Theo, playing a game of catch.
In one photo Ivanka's youngest son and her husband posed with the quarterback and the wide receiver, who is dating TikTok star Alix Earle. Meanwhile a video in the next slide showed Theodore showing off his arm with the NFL players.
While Barkley seemingly enjoyed his trip to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, fans noticed that many of the key players from the team's Super Bowl run were not there.
Quarterback Hurts, receivers AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith and linebacker Zack Baun were absent. Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Brandon Graham (who has since retired), Nolan Smith Jr., Nakobe Dean, CJ Gardner Johnson (who is now on the Texans), Darius Slay (who is now on the Steelers) and Quinyon Mitchell were reportedly absent as well.
Hurts snubbed the White House visit over a 'scheduling conflict,' according to NBC News's Yamiche Alcindor.
Offensive lineman Lane Johnson and head coach Nick Sirianni were among those in attendance, as well as owner Jeffrey Lurie and chief security officer and senior advisor to the GM 'Big' Dom DiSandro.

When Donald Trump visited his mum's Lewis home 'for 40 seconds' - from someone who was there
In 2008, long before MAGA and the White House, Donald Trump made his only visit to the Western Isles. A fleeting appearance in the crofting village of Tong drew cameras, raised eyebrows, and left islanders more bemused than starstruck. Travelling with his sister, Maryanne Trump Barry — a retired US federal judge and fluent Gaelic speaker — Mr Trump came in search of their mother's birthplace. The modest family home they visited was where Mary Anne MacLeod was born in 1912. Press and Journal photographer Sandy McCook was there to document the moment. 'His private jet, with TRUMP on the side, flew right over us,' he recalled. 'And he came with a security detail, which caught the local police completely off guard.' Mr Trump met cousins Alasdair and Calum Murray, spent 'about 40 seconds' inside the house, then held a press conference at the Old Sawmill at Lews Castle. 'It was surreal,' said Sandy. 'He said he'd been at a concert the night before with 'his friend' Elton John. 'When asked how he'd fund the still-to-be-completed Menie golf course during the looming crash, he said 'When the banks run out of money, they come to me'.' Maryanne, meanwhile, downplayed any official role, telling reporters she was simply there for 'moral support.' She even answered a question in Gaelic, a gesture that won hearts on the island. Mr Trump described the croft house as his mother's 'Scotch house' and left by mid-afternoon. Back then, he was still a reality TV host and property mogul — known more for The Apprentice than politics. But for Lewis, his whirlwind visit was a strange collision of island quiet and global celebrity. 'It was hard to believe it actually happened,' said Sandy. 'And just like that, he was gone.' A moment in history — Hebridean style.

Anthony Richardson's agent blasts Indianapolis Colts after they named Daniel Jones starting quarterback
Anthony Richardson's agent has blasted the Indianapolis Colts after they decided to name Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback for the new NFL season. Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced on Tuesday that former New York Giants quarterback Jones would get the nod over Richardson, the franchise's former first-round pick. It is another blow to Richardson, who has struggled with injuries and accuracy as a passer since being selected by the Colts with the fourth overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. Now his agent, Deiric Jackson of Legacy Sports Advisors, has said that trust between his client and the Colts is 'questionable right now' in a scathing statement. He told ESPN: 'We have a lot to discuss. Trust is a big factor and that is, at best, questionable right now. 'Anthony came back and made the improvements in the areas he needed to improve. And by all accounts, he had a great camp.' Steichen and his Colts staff obviously did not agree and they have pivoted to Jones, who signed a one-year, $14 million contract in the offseason to take part in an open competition for the job. 'He's our starting quarterback for the season,' Steichen said Tuesday. 'I feel confident in his abilities.' It's a second chance at an NFL starting job for Jones, one that puts Richardson's future with the Colts in question. Steichen said 'staying healthy' is a factor if Richardson is to continue to develop. Richardson said Tuesday he 'respects the decision' and promised to keep working. 'They feel like he's a better fit for the team and the outcome of us winning. You have to respect it and keep working,' Richardson said. 'It doesn't undermine any of the work I've put in. It doesn't say I haven't improved. I'm proud of the improvement I've made.' Jones, 28, was the No. 6 overall pick by the Giants in the 2019 NFL Draft. He suffered a season-ending ACL tear in 2023 but returned in time to start the 2024 season as the team's No. 1 quarterback. 'Excited for the opportunity,' Jones said on Tuesday. 'As a competitor, you want to be on the field. My approach, my preparation, all that stuff stays the same. I'm fired up, I'm excited.' He was benched after New York's 2-8 start to the season and was replaced by Tommy DeVito, prompting Jones to request to be released last November. He signed with the Minnesota Vikings and was assigned to the practice squad. He did not play in any games with the Vikings, who plan to have J.J. McCarthy under center to start the 2025 season. Jones has 14,582 passing yards, 70 touchdown passes and 47 interceptions in 70 career games. He has 2,179 rushing yards with 15 touchdowns. His record as the Giants' starter was 24-44-1. Richardson, 23, has completed 50.6 percent of his passes for 2,391 yards and 11 touchdowns against 13 interceptions in 15 games. He has also been sacked 21 times and committed 12 fumbles. Richardson has been limited to 15 starts over his first two NFL seasons due to a myriad of injuries, including to his shoulder, oblique, foot, back and finger, as well as a concussion. The Colts open the 2025 season September 7 against the visiting Miami Dolphins.

How Bristol will use the box-office return of Louis Rees-Zammit to crack America
As Louis Rees-Zammit spoke to the media for the first time as a Bristol player at the club's state-of-the-art training centre on Tuesday, work was already well underway at the Bears on how best to benefit from his arrival. Rees-Zammit is a huge talent on and off the field. His rugby return from the NFL is good news for both the player and his new employers as the ambitious English club outfit looks to expand not only at home, but abroad. The USA, in particular, remains a target area for growth.
