Warriors work out champion who shot 41.3 percent from 3-point land
The post Warriors work out champion who shot 41.3 percent from 3-point land appeared first on ClutchPoints. With the NBA Draft a little less than a month away, NBA teams have been conducting workouts for prospective draft prospects. With the draft combine having been completed last month, individual and group workouts will be the norm until the draft arrives. The Golden State Warriors recently conducted a workout ahead of the NBA Draft with former Houston guard LJ Cryer, as per Chris Baldwin of PaperCity Magazine. Advertisement LJ Cryer has done pre-draft workouts with six NBA teams so far, including the Warriors, and he's hoping to shed some of the misconceptions about him. 'You kind of hear some teams might think you're too small,' Cryer said. 'I'm not a traditional point guard. But some teams like the way I shoot the ball and how competitive I am. I'm just taking it all in and just trying to get my foot in the door.' Cryer spent the last two seasons of his college basketball career at Houston after playing the first three seasons at Baylor. He was a strong three-point shooter in college, something that might interest the Warriors. During his final season at Houston, he shot 42.4 percent from three-point range. He shot 42 percent or better in three of his five college seasons with a career average of 41.3 percent. The Warriors currently have only one pick in the 2025 NBA Draft at No. 41 in the second round. Most current mock drafts have Cryer going undrafted. It's possible that the Warriors could select him at No. 41 if he impressed enough during their workouts. Or if he does go undrafted, he could catch on with an NBA team as an undrafted free agent and possibly on a two-way contract. Advertisement Last season, the Warriors also did not have a first-round pick. They used their second-round pick at No. 52 on Quinten Post. Post became a regular in the rotation and had his two-way contract converted to a standard deal before the NBA Playoffs. Pirates fall to Astros with 8-2 loss following lengthy rain delay
Framber Valdez pitched seven strong innings, Isaac Paredes homered twice, and the Houston Astros beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-2 after a lengthy rain delay on Thursday night. Valdez (6-4) won his fifth straight decision by limiting the Pirates to two runs on five hits with three walks and a season-high 11 strikeouts after waiting out the delay that pushed the start of the game back 3 hours and 22 minutes. The left-hander is now 5-0 with a 1.72 ERA in his last six starts. Paredes hit his 13th homer of the season leading off the fourth against Mitch Keller (1-8). His 14th, a two-run shot in the ninth, put the game away. Jeremy Peña added three hits and drove in a run for the Astros. The shortstop is batting .361 since moving to the leadoff spot on April 27. Jake Melton, who made his major league debut last weekend against Tampa Bay, had two hits, including a two-run single against Keller in the fourth. Keller had been pitching well despite receiving the lowest run support in the majors. The right-hander wasn't quite as crisp against the Astros, giving up six runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings as his ERA crept up to 4.19. Jared Triolo had two hits and scored twice for the Pirates, who have dropped four of six. The Pirates were down two and had runners on the corners with two outs in the fifth when Valdez fanned Andrew McCutchen on a curveball. 9 — the number of runs Pittsburgh has scored in Keller's last starts. Astros: head to Cleveland for a three-game weekend series starting Friday when Colton Gordon (0-1, 5.95 ERA) faces Cleveland's Logan Allen (3-3, 4.22). Pirates: welcome Philadelphia for a three-game set beginning Friday. Bailey Falter, who posted a 0.76 ERA across six starts in May, starts the opener for Pittsburgh. ___ AP MLB:

More new Wildcats move in, embrace mission for banner No. 9
Five more Kentucky Wildcats officially arrived in Lexington on Thursday: Freshmen Malachi Moreno, sophomore transfer Kam Williams, freshman Jasper Johnson, freshman Braydon Hawthorne, and junior transfer Reece Potter. They join early arrivals Jaland Lowe, Denzel Aberdeen, and Jayden Quaintance as Mark Pope's new-look roster continues to take shape. Kentucky men's basketball posted a video on Twitter of Moreno and Potter introducing themselves before move-in— both making it clear they understand the assignment: bring home banner No. 9. Advertisement Moreno, a 7-foot center from Georgetown, recently led Great Crossing to a state title. The McDonald's All-American and USA Basketball U19 camp invitee will wear No. 24 for the Wildcats. He averaged 21.5 points, 14.9 rebounds, and shot 72% from the field as a senior. Potter, 7-foot-1, returns to his hometown after two seasons at Miami (OH). A former Lexington Catholic standout, he appeared in 56 games for the RedHawks, averaging 6.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and shooting 36.7 percent from three as a sophomore. Hawthorne had a full-circle moment where UK posted on Twitter: A 'how it started vs. how it's going' image showing him as a young boy sitting next to legendary coach Joe B. Hall's statue, and now, doing it again before move-in. In the video, Hawthorne said he's ready to get to work. Alongside the other new Wildcats, two more arrived this afternoon and evening as Kam Williams and Jasper Johnson shared their goals for this upcoming season. Advertisement Williams, the Tulane transfer, was the first transfer commit of this portal class as he chose the Cats right in the thick of the NCAA Tournament. A player with legit NBA prospects going forward, watching his growth this year should be fun. Johnson is the most familiar name to the BBN, as the top-40 prospect has been on the fanbase's radar for quite some time. Now, it is official. We will finally get to see Johnson wear the blue and white. With key pieces now in place, Coach Pope's message is clear, and his players are ready to answer the call. More from
