
Elden Ring Nightreign: How to Unlock The Secret Nightfarer Characters
Creating a strong team composition is just as important as speedrunning bosses and collecting runes, flasks and other upgrades during the three-day expeditions. You'll want to mix-and-match damage dealers, tanks and supporting roles while also ensuring you have melee, ranged and elemental damage options.
Newer players might gravitate toward more forgiving Nightfarer options, such as Wylder, Guardian and Ironeye. But the six Nightfarers available to you when you first start Nightreign aren't the only player classes in the game.
Here's how to unlock the two secret Nightfarer classes in Elden Ring Nightreign.
If you receive this relic after an expedition, you'll be able to unlock the first secret Nightfarer.

How to unlock the Duchess
The first Nightfarer you'll have a chance to unlock is the Duchess. Once you finish your first Tricephalos expedition, you'll be rewarded with a special green relic -- the Old Pocketwatch. You don't actually have to defeat Gladius in order to obtain the relic, but you do have to complete a full run in order to claim your rewards.
This relic imparts decent buffs on any Nightfarer that you're running with a dexterity-based build, but it also doubles as the key item that unlocks the first secret Elden Ring Nightreign class.
Once the Old Pocketwatch is in your possession, approach the Priestess in the Roundtable Hold. Her normal dialogue options give some background on what the Nightfarers are doing here and why the fight against the Nightlord is so important. Now, she'll ask about your new relic, and present you with a choice of whether or not to hand it over to her.
Even if you've slotted the Old Pocketwatch relic into your build, you have nothing to fear by handing it over to the Priestess. You'll retain the relic and it you can still equip it on any of your playable Nightfarers.
When the Priestess is handed the relic, a short cutscene plays where she drops her shroud and reveals that she has been the Duchess all along. She vows to stop standing on the sidelines and join the fight, and with that you'll unlock Nightreign's seventh playable Nightfarer.
The Duchess wears a Dark Souls Firekeeper mask, but her overall aesthetic is much more Bloodborne-y.

What is the Duchess' role in a team?
The Duchess is a dexterous attacker who can flit in and out of battle to keep up the pressure. She doesn't have high poise, defense or health, but she can hold an enemy's attention and easily evade their attacks. The Duchess greatly benefits from weapons like fists, daggers and curved swords, though any weapons with powerful lunge attacks will feel right at home in this Nightfarer's arsenal.
The Duchess' passive ability lets her expend less stamina when attacking and dodging, allowing her to stay in the battle longer before taking a tactical reprieve. Her class ability, Restage, rewinds time and inflicts additional damage against enemies who have been wounded in the past few seconds. Her ultimate ability, Finale, shrouds the Duchess and any nearby teammates from enemies during a fight, allowing the team to heal up and prepare attacks with long wind up times. The effects of Finale instantly wear off on any person who attacks an enemy (or gets hit by a stray attack themselves).
After you unlock the Duchess, a new item will be available in the Jar Bazaar.

How to unlock the Revenant
You'll need another key item in order to unlock the Revenant, the eighth and final playable Nightfarer. Luckily, this item becomes available as soon as you unlock the Duchess -- it's nestled down toward the bottom of the Jar Bazaar.
The Besmirched Frame will cost you 1,500 Murk and, just like the Old Pocketwatch, it's a relic you can use in your Nightfarers' builds. Once you've obtained this item, a Lost Phantom will spawn in the east hallway of the Roundtable Hold. This NPC will be denoted by a girl's portrait on your map -- there will be an exclamation point icon by the portrait's head.
Approach this phantom and interact with the girl. You'll be warped to the plateau where you fought the Margit the Fell Omen in Nightreign's tutorial, but this time a unique boss will be waiting for you.
Taking on the Night Idol is much easier once you defeat her summons, but you'll still have to avoid some of the spells she slings.

The Night Idol is an easy boss fight, but there are a couple of enemies you'll have to micromanage. She has three spirit summons she fields against you: Helen, an agile page that will quickly press the attack; Frederick, a bulky cook who swings slowly but delivers devastating blows; and Sebastian, a massive skeleton who can't move but has deadly melee attacks and magic beams.
Focusing on these spirit summons is imperative, because they don't come back once they're defeated. You can beat this boss with any Nightfarer, but I found it was easiest with Ironeye. You can use your bow to zone out the summons, peppering them with arrows until they fall, and then move in on the Night Idol boss using your action skills.
Once the Night Idol is defeated, you'll be transported back to the Roundtable Hold and informed that you've unlocked the Revenant, the last of the Nightfarers missing from the roster.
The Revenant is a doll, like Ranni the Witch. She commands spirits to enact her will.

What is the Revenant's role in a team?
The Revenant is one of the more magically inclined player classes in Elden Ring Nightreign, which means that she's a high risk, high reward character to use. The Revenant has a high focus point (or mana) pool and can take advantage of sorceries and incantations alike, though her stat spread favors spells from Seals and Dragon Communions. What this character lacks in defense, though, she makes up for in utility that allows her to shift focus away from herself and her teammates.
The Revenant's passive ability has a chance to spawn spirit summons of non-boss enemies that she deals final blows to. This combines well with her class ability, Summon Spirit, which allows her to call Helen, Frederick or Sebastian (the same summons from the Lost Girl boss fight) to the battlefield. The Revenant's summons add an element of chaos to Nightreign's battles, and often pull enemy aggression away from players. It's much easier to get in the thick of the fight and mete out some damage when there's a small army marching on a boss.
When the fight is turning against her, the Revenant's powerful ultimate ability makes herself and her allies briefly immortal. The Immortal March ability applies to other players as well as the Revenant's spirit summons, making it a real Swiss army knife of an ability -- if you really want to squeeze the most value out of it, you can activate it when your teammates are knocked down to instantly revive them. If you've got a spirit summon active, it'll use its own ultimate ability, but it can't swing a fight nearly as well as picking up your fallen squadmates.
The Revenant is fragile, but she provides more effective health to her tankier teammates -- and levels the playing field by bringing more allies into the fight.

OpenAI quickly rolled back a new feature that allowed users to make private conversations with ChatGPT searchable
OpenAI is removing a feature that lets users put ChatGPT activity on search engines. The opt-in feature was a "short-lived experiment" that'll be gone by Friday, CISO Dane Stuckey said. The feature made it easier for users to accidentally share things they didn't mean to, Stuckey said. OpenAI quickly rolled back a new feature that allowed users to make private conversations with ChatGPT "discoverable" after the launch was marred by concerns of accidental oversharing. "We just removed a feature from @ChatGPTapp that allowed users to make their conversations discoverable by search engines, such as Google," Dane Stuckey, OpenAI's chief information security officer, announced via social media post on Thursday. He described the opt-in feature as "a short-lived experiment to help people discover useful conversations," but added that the company removed it in part because of OpenAI's focus on "security and privacy." "Ultimately we think this feature introduced too many opportunities for folks to accidentally share things they didn't intend to, so we're removing the option," Stuckey's post said. "We're also working to remove indexed content from the relevant search engines. This change is rolling out to all users through tomorrow morning." The rollback came shortly after newsletter writer Luiza Jarovsky posted on X earlier in the day that sensitive conversations with ChatGPT were being made public. When using the chatbot's sharing feature, Jarovsky wrote that users were opening up their exchanges to being indexed by Google. The feature required users to take steps to share their conversations — including ticking a box to "make this chat discoverable," and indicated it would "be shown in web searches." Chats made public were anonymized, reducing the risk that someone may be personally identified by their conversations with the bot. Still, users responding to Jarovsky's posts highlighted the concern that some people may absent-mindedly check the box to share without reading the fine print, opening themselves up to sharing embarrassing or private information. In her initial X post, Jarovsky found examples of users discussing their fears with ChatGPT. Her comments were filled with more personal examples, from discussions of harassment to makeshift therapy sessions. Momoa and co-creator Thomas Pa'a Sibbett craft an Apple TV+ drama that's equal parts action-packed and illuminating Ten years in the making, Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa'a Sibbett bring their passion project to life with the visually stunning, action-packed and culturally significant series, 'Chief of War.' The Apple TV+ drama tells the story of the unification and colonization of Hawaii at the turn of the 18th century from an indigenous perspective. It's undoubtedly one of the most ambitious series in recent memory, as it takes a heavy and delicate subject matter but manages to make it action-packed and informative in equal measures, which can be a tough line to tow. I knew very little, if anything, about the history of Hawaii. However, after watching 'Chief of War,' I felt inspired to research the various real-life figures and what happened to them after the events of the 10-episode series. This is a big responsibility for Momoa and the cast and crew to ensure authenticity, which they achieve with cultural advisors in every production department. Also, even the inclusion of Hawaiian language dialogue was a culturally-significant moment as the language almost became extinct after it was banned from being taught in Hawaiian schools in 1896. Now, millions of people get to hear the language take center stage on one of the biggest shows of 2025. Beyond the cultural impact, 'Chief of War' is also a bloody entertaining TV show that boasts incredible performances from its cast. This could be a bold claim, but the show will be the making of Luciane Buchanan. The New Zealand actress has already made waves with Netflix's 'The Night Agent,' but her star-turning performance as Ka'ahumanu is a game-changer. In playing the queen consort and one of Kamehameha I's wives, Buchanan brings emotionality and pathos as her character must balance prophecy and tradition with the changing landscape of the modern world and the evil forces that threaten it. Another stellar performance was by the mohawk-sporting Cliff Curtis, who was impeccable as Keōua. The New Zealander's performance added a real gruesome edge to the show, portraying Keōua like a Marvel villain in the way that he seemed an indestructible threat to the protagonists and their way of life. Though the character could have benefited from more scenes exploring the reasons for his madness. Perhaps the greatest character of 'Chief of War' was the Polynesian islands with wide sweeping shots of filming locations in New Zealand and Hawaii, adding real drama and surreal beauty to the drama. Not even the bloody battles and violence could stop this from being a great advertisement to hop on a plane and take in the incredible sights that the islands have to offer. It could be the New Zealand backdrop and violent battles that are clouding my judgment, but it felt like 'Chief of War' took heavy inspiration from 'Lord of the Rings.' And just like the Tolkien stories, 'Chief of War' thrived when it leant into the mystical and fantastical. The old world superstitions and beliefs of the native Hawaiians were represented hauntingly by the Prophetess. While it's hard to strike the balance between being an authentic representation of history and an entertaining show, I would have loved to see more of the surrealist moments, as that created such a unique atmosphere within the show. And just like 'Lord of the Rings,' 'Chief of War' knows exactly how to produce an epic battle scene that had the audience on the edge of their seats with high-octane action. Without giving much away, the final battle sequence was the perfect climax to a dramatic and well-crafted series. It was fast-paced, exhilarating and ultra-violent — the image of Momoa ripping someone's tongue out of their throat and biting it comes to mind. 'Chief of War' writer and lead star Momoa made his big Hollywood breakthrough on 'Game of Thrones,' and comparisons have already been made between the two shows as the audience are taken on an epic adventure to different lands, minus the fire-breathing dragons. Whilst I can't see the upcoming Apple TV+ show having as big a cultural impact as 'Game of Thrones,' I am incredibly optimistic and excited about the future of 'Chief of War.' There are no confirmed plans for future seasons, but Momoa and Thomas Pa'a Sibbett have got something special on their hands. The promising first season has given them a perfect launching pad to further showcase the rich culture and powerful stories of native Hawaiians that have been waiting to be told. 'Chief of War' premieres Friday, Aug. 1, on Apple TV+. No more chains: NFL debuts new virtual measurement at Hall of Fame Game
NFL games will look slightly different this season, and fans got their first glimpse at the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday. The NFL announced in April it will begin using Sony's Hawk-Eye technology as the primary way to measure the line to gain, rather than the chain system that has been in place for decades. Much like its usage in baseball and tennis, the technology uses six 8K cameras to judge the ball's position on the field. The call was not close: The NFL hailed the new technology as a more efficient method than the chains: "Sony's Hawk-Eye virtual measurement technology will serve as an efficient alternative to the process of walking chains onto the field and manually measuring whether 10 yards have been met after the official has spotted the ball. The chain crew will remain on the field in a secondary capacity." While the league initially announced it would keep a traditional chain crew in reserve for games, referee Shawn Smith told reporters on Thursday there would be no chains between down markers for the Hall of Fame game. The replacement of chains with cameras is unlikely to improve the accuracy of these calls, as the spotting of the ball by officials has always been the bigger issue when trying to figure out if a runner got enough distance for a first down. The chains were actually pretty good at telling officials how long 10 yards is. Rather, the virtual measurements are intended to save time, with decisions reached in seconds rather than making everyone wait for the officials to drag the chain out to midfield. We'll see how much fans notice as the regular season begins, with the opener scheduled for Sept. 4.
