Rupali Ganguly Visits Court To Record Statement In Defamation Case Against Stepdaughter

Last Updated: Rupali Ganguly appeared in Andheri court to record her statement in a defamation case against her stepdaughter, Esha Verma, seeking Rs 50 crore in damages for false claims. Television actress Rupali Ganguly appeared before a court in Andheri, Mumbai, this week to record her statement in a defamation case she has filed against her stepdaughter, Esha Verma. The case, filed in November 2024, alleges that Verma made a series of false and damaging claims against Ganguly, including remarks about her family and minor son. The Anupamaa star was accompanied by her lawyer, celebrity advocate Sana Raees Khan, who has been representing her in both civil and criminal proceedings related to the dispute. Speaking to Instant Bollywood outside the court, Sana Raees Khan confirmed that both civil and criminal defamation actions are underway. 'Jaise ke aap sab log jaante ho High Court mein humne civil defamation suit file kiya hai, jaha pe hame interim relief mil chuki hai. Yaha pe criminal defamation complaint file hui thi, jaha par aaj Rupali bhi aayi thi," she said. Khan added, 'Unhone court mein bayan diya aur unhone bataya ke kis tarah se unke saath jo traumatic experience hua hai, jis tarah se woh defame hui hai, unka reputation tarnish hua hai maliciously, woh sab unhone bataya court mein." She further noted the severity of the allegations made against her client. 'Rupali ke against waise bahot saari defamatory baatein kahi gayi hai. Not just Rupali, even her son, unke son ko illegitimate kaha gaya hai. She is a bold woman; she has come out and legal action le rahi hai." Details of the case According to court filings, Ganguly's defamation suit was lodged on November 11, 2024, seeking Rs 50 crore in damages. The complaint alleges that Verma engaged in a deliberate campaign to harm the actress's reputation through social media posts, media interviews, and public statements. The matter gained renewed attention after a 2020 social media post by Verma resurfaced online. In that post, Verma claimed Ganguly was romantically involved with her father, Ashwin K Verma, while he was still married to her mother. She also accused the actress of being 'controlling" and 'abusive" and alleged that Ganguly had issued death threats toward both her and her mother. Verma is the daughter of Ashwin Verma and his ex-wife, Sapna Verma, who divorced in 2008. Ashwin later married Ganguly in 2013, and the couple welcomed their son, Rudransh, the same year. Khan's legal team issued an official statement outlining why Ganguly chose to take the matter to court. 'We have issued a defamation notice to her stepdaughter in response to her false and damaging statements as Rupali Ganguly firmly stands against the use of defamatory tactics for publicity and she has taken this legal step to protect her reputation from unfounded claims. These baseless allegations were clearly intended to harm Rupali Ganguly's reputation and capitalise on her public standing. Such actions have not only caused emotional distress but have also unfairly tarnished her personal and professional integrity," the statement read. The filing also cites remarks made by Verma about Rudransh, Ganguly's 11-year-old son, as a major factor behind the decision to pursue legal action. Rupali Ganguly's Anupamaa In Trouble? Cine Body Demands FIR Against Makers After Fire Tragedy

Last Updated: The association also demanded a high-level probe in connection to the incident and demanded the suspension of the Managing Director of Mumbai's Film City. All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding a probe in connection with the recent fire incident on the sets of Rupali Ganguly starrer show, Anupamaa. In its letter, AICWA criticised the producers for risking the lives of workers on the sets and slammed them for ignoring fire protocols. 'This incident is yet another alarming reminder of the repeated fires in Film City and other shooting locations in Maharashtra, which are a direct result of negligence by producers, production houses, and channels who routinely ignore fire safety protocols. Thousands of technicians, workers, and artists risk their lives daily due to the lack of basic fire safety systems and enforcement," AICWA wrote in its letter. 'Despite several previous incidents and warnings, no serious or systemic action has been taken by the authorities or Film City administration. Shockingly, even after earlier fire incidents were brought to the attention of the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha by me as President of the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), the government and administration failed to implement strict fire safety guidelines or audits across the industry," the cine workers' body added. The association further demanded a high-level probe in connection to the incident and demanded the suspension of the Managing Director of Mumbai's Film City. It accused him of 'gross negligence and dereliction of duty" and went on to say that an FIR should also be filed against the makers of the show. 'Therefore, AICWA urgently demands a high-level judicial inquiry into the fire on the set of Anupamaa, immediate suspension of the Managing Director of Film City and the Labour Commissioner of Mumbai, for gross negligence and dereliction of duty, FIR against the producers, production house, television channel, as well as Film City officials for failing to ensure worker safety, and an investigation into possible insurance fraud, examining whether the fire was intentionally caused to claim insurance serious and criminal angle," it said. For the unversed, the set of Rupali Ganguly's show Anupamaa caught fire on June 23. The producer's later shared an official statement, confirming that there were 'no casualties". They also urged fans to avoid 'misinformation" about the incident. First Published:
