Minister of Environment: Iraq has begun taking preparatory steps for COP30
Minister of Environment Hallo Al-Askari announced on Wednesday that Iraq has begun taking preparatory steps in preparation for COP30, noting that addressing the climate crisis requires shared responsibility.
In a speech received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) during his participation in Copenhagen Ministerial Conference on Climate Change in Denmark, Al-Askari said that "Iraq renews its commitment to the international path to confront climate change," stressing "the need to formulate clear global commitments that contribute to accelerating the implementation of environmental pledges."
Hallo presented "a series of qualitative proposals that conveyed Iraq's vision and position on the most prominent international environmental issues. He also spoke on behalf of the Group of 77 and China," calling for "a tangible collective commitment to implementing the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and enhancing preparations for COP30."
Al-Askari explained that "addressing the climate crisis requires shared but differentiated responsibility," calling on "developed countries to fulfill their commitments to support developing countries, especially those facing worsening environmental challenges, by providing climate finance, facilitating technology transfer, and building capacity."
The Minister of Environment noted that "Iraq has already begun taking preparatory steps at the national level in preparation for COP30, by updating the Nationally Determined Contributions document, preparing a climate finance roadmap, and strengthening cooperation frameworks between relevant government agencies, international organizations, and technical partners."
He emphasized "the importance of engaging the local community, especially youth and women, in efforts to combat climate change."

SDF calls for formal talks on Syria's oil

She also rejected accusations that the Administration is seeking separation from Syria, reaffirming that decentralization continues to form the basis of its political vision. 'A stalled or incomplete transition may open the door to civil war and unravel the fabric of social stability,' she warned.

Bahrain to open consulate in Erbil
Shafaq News – Erbil Bahrain expressed on Monday its intention to open a consulate in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, and launch direct flights between Manama and Erbil. According to a statement from Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani's office, Barzani met with Bahrain's ambassador to Iraq, Khalid Ahmed Al-Mansour. The two discussed political developments in Iraq and the region, as well as relations between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government. The statement added that Ambassador Al-Mansour praised Barzani's leadership and wisdom in managing the Kurdistan Region, highlighting its strong standing in the region.
