Yankees right-hander Luis Gil pitches 3 1/3 innings in a rehab start with Double-A Somerset
The 27-year-old Gil allowed one run on Charles McAdoo's leadoff homer for New Hampshire in the fourth. He walked one while throwing 50 pitches, 36 for strikes.
Gil has been sidelined since spring training because of a right lat strain. He had to delay the beginning of his throwing program in April because the injury was healing slowly.
The return of Gil could provide a big lift for New York's depleted rotation. Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt are out for the season because of elbow injuries.
Gil was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2024. He went 15-7 with a 3.50 ERA in 29 starts for the AL East champions, striking out 171 and walking a major league-high 77 in 151 2/3 innings.
Gil stopped a bullpen session on Feb. 28 because of tightness in his pitching shoulder. He went to New York for a second MRI that revealed a high-grade lat strain.

LE MONT-DORE, France (AP) — British rider Simon Yates won the first mountainous stage of the Tour de France on Monday while Irish rider Ben Healy consoled himself by taking the yellow jersey for the overall leader on Monday. It meant that the 24-year-old Healy, who claimed his first stage victory on Thursday, took the overall lead 29-seconds ahead of Pogačar. Stage 10 took the riders on a tough 165.3-kilometer route in the Massif Central – France's south-central highland region – from Ennezat through seven category two climbs before concluding on the ascent of Puy de Sancy – the region's highest peak – after 3.3 kilometers of an 8% gradient climb. Group that owns Burnley in England also taking over Spanish club Espanyol
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — English-based group Velocity Sport Limited and its American shareholders are taking over Spanish club Espanyol. The club said Monday that its current owners, Chinese group Rastar reached an agreement with VSL to join the holding company and 'participate in a strategic alliance that will position RCD Espanyol at the same level' as Premier League club Burnley, which is also part of the group. 'With this deal, Espanyol and the English club will be part of this investment group, which expands its interests by having a club in La Liga and another in the Premier League, although each will remain independent,' Espanyol said in a statement. 'This business integration formula allows for the coexistence of two historic clubs that will operate independently, although they will be supported by the same financial group,' Espanyol said. Espanyol said the agreement is 'pending officialization and completion until all administrative procedures are formalised.' The club said Rastar 'is not disassociating itself from Espanyol, but rather its shares will become part of this new investment vehicle that will have stakes in both clubs.' Espanyol said that with this 'step forward, Rastar underlines a firm conviction that this integration into the VSL group will strengthen both the economic and sporting structure' of the club. Espanyol, which was twice relegated in the decade or so under Rastar, finished 14th in the league's standings last season.
