John Cena vows ‘there's no way' he'll return to WWE after shock retirement

Metro6 hours ago

John Cena has declared that he will never return to WWE after embarking on a retirement tour.
The 48-year-old made history in April by becoming the most decorated wrestler in history, after taking home his record-breaking 17th championship win.
Last year, he announced his decision to step away from competing for good following the end of his tour, with his last performances slated for December.
During an appearance on Good Morning America to promote his new Amazon Prime movie, Heads of State, he lifted the lid on his time in front of the camera.
'I've been lifting and throwing folks for 25 years now,' he told host Michael Strahan. 'I wanted to do something that's never been done – six months before the tour, I announced my retirement.
'I said, for the year, I would perform in 36 states. We're halfway through, and I think nobody thought I was serious.
'Now that we're halfway through and people really understand that my last match is in December and it's time for me to move on, the audiences have been electric.'
When the presenter asked if there was a 'slight chance' he could stage another return in the future, John insisted: 'There is no way.
'There is absolutely… I don't want to speak in absolutes, because I don't want to close any opportunity, but I made a promise to the fans who have allowed me to be here for a quarter of a century. They allowed me to sit with you today.
'I wouldn't want to disrespect them like that. This is an event, when people attend, it's very exclusive…
'I wouldn't want to ruin that just for selfish gain.'
'Speaking to a retired athlete, I think you intrinsically know when your instinct says, I'm a step slower,' he added.
'It's then just a battle of, 'How long do I fight those red flags before it could be counterproductive?'
'I still look good, I still feel good, I still feel like I can perform at a WWE level, but I also think it's time for me to step aside and let the young talent step forward.'
The athlete-turned-actor stepped into the ring in the early 00s and has barely left the spotlight since, winning a string of championships in that time.
He later turned his attention to Hollywood and has appeared in a string of films, including Daddy's Home, the Fast and Furious franchise, Suicide Squad, Ricky Stanicky and Barbie. More Trending
Although he is retiring, John previously shared that he will still remain a staple of WWE, and will be serving as an ambassador in future.
In a chat with Extra, he added: 'This is my final year in the WWE. I'm retiring this year. We're about halfway through, so I look forward to officially closing the book on in-ring competition.

'I will forever be an ambassador of the WWE. I'll be part of that family till they ask me to leave.'

Legendary announcer Jim Ross gives vital health update a month after revealing colon cancer diagnosis

Legendary professional wrestling commentator Jim Ross has shared that he is cancer free, a month after he revealed a colon cancer diagnosis. Ross spoke about his health on Wednesday, with the 73-year-old not sharing exactly when he was put into remission. Yet, the All Elite Wrestling commentator made it clear he does not want to stay stagnant for long. 'The cancer's gone, which I'm very happy to say,' Ross said on his podcast. The Oklahoman added he is feeling 'pretty damn good' and his goal is to 'get back to work' with his plan 'to be in Dallas for the big event'. Ross is referring to AEW's 'All In: Texas', one of the biggest shows of the professional wrestling year on July 12. Ross also gave a shoutout to AEW President Tony Khan during his cancer-free revelation. 'Tony Khan has been amazingly wonderful... He supported me wholeheartedly and I really do appreciate that. That's the way a boss should act,' Ross continued. Ross is best known for his long run as a play-by-play broadcaster with World Wrestling Entertainment. Ross' cancer diagnosis and remission comes a year after he was hospitalized for being 'short of breath' last May. He returned to AEW television shortly after his hospitalization for sit-down interviews with Bryan Danielson and Swerve Strickland ahead of their world championship match at Wembley Stadium in front of over 50,000 fans. Ross was at 'All In: London' last year on commentary for the main-event bout, where Danielson won the AEW World Championship, two months before his retirement as a full-time wrestler. Ross has worked for a major American professional wrestling company consecutively since 1974, right after he graduated from college. The diagnosis did add to the health problems Ross has had in recent years. He had an eye operation in 2018 and had successful cancer surgery earlier this year. Ross was originally diagnosed with skin cancer in October 2021 but said he was in remission by the end of the year.

Hulk Hogan makes $7million business move amid shock health concerns and 'deathbed' rumors

While WWE icon Hulk Hogan is still reeling from shock health concerns where some believed he was on his deathbed, the professional wrestling legend is part of the team opening a sports bar in New York City. The $7million project will be a multi-floor establishment where his fans can eat your vitamins, say their prayers, and drink plenty of liquor. The bar will be called 'Slam' and is located at the intersection of West 31st Street and Eighth Avenue in Manhattan with windows facing the world-famous Madison Square Garden, where several of Hogan's defining moments inside the squared circle took place, per Page Six. Hogan, 71, will not have any ownership in 'Slam' and his partnership with Rich Rosen, is only a licensing deal so the bar can use the Hulkster's name and likeness. Last week, Hogan had to swat away concerns that he was close to dying after past nemesis Bubba the Love Sponge said live on air that a 'pretty damn reliable' source had told him the 71-year-old was in such bad health that he 'might not make it'. However, it is believed Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, is not close to death and was only in the hospital to address health problems he's struggled with for years. Before his health concerns were publicized, Hogan was approached by Rosen, who owns nearby SCORES Sports Bar, about the project at an autograph signing. The bar will be littered with Hogan memorabilia and will have television screens where his fans can relive his greatest moments. Slam will also try to resemble the inside of Madison Square Garden, complete with a jumbotron inside the venue. Hogan already has another bar, Hogan's Hangout, in Florida, with 'The Immortal' expected to be making frequent visits to his New York drinking hole. The 13-time world champion made his WWE debut at Madison Square Garden in 1979 and main-evented the first WrestleMania at the venue in 1985. His most recent appearance at Madison Square Garden was on stage at a Donald Trump rally several days before he won the Presidential election over Kamala Harris last October. Hogan has not appeared at a wrestling event since getting loudly booed during WWE Monday Night RAW's debut on Netflix in January. The all-time wrestling great is no stranger to surgery after recently telling WWE superstar Logan Paul that he had at least 25 from 2014 to 2024 alone. 'I've had 10 back surgeries,' he said during an appearance on Logan's 'Impaulsive' podcast. 'Both knees and both hips replaced, shoulders - everything.' While he is not on his deathbed, Hogan did spark fears over his health after making a bizarre appearance on Fox News last month. Fans were left concerned when he appeared as a special guest on Fox & Friends at the start of May sporting a worrying new look. Renowned for his deep tan, the WWE great's skin looked particularly weathered on air, while his usual white beard appeared to be dyed black despite his goatee and hair being left white - making for a strange contrast. One viewer wrote on social media: 'tell Hulk Hogan his face is dirty, clean that soot off.'

Unexpected breakthrough for Barney and Zack in EastEnders

Zack Hudson (James Farrar) might finally be able to form a bond with his son Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman) in EastEnders. Last month, Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) discovered that his wife Nicola (Laura Doddington) had an affair with Zack 16 years ago, and she fell pregnant. Their eldest son Harry (Elijah Holloway) was left reeling from the news, and decided to kidnap Zack – bundling him into the boot of a car and driving off into the woods. Although Teddy was furious, he didn't want anything bad to happen and charged after them both. In a dramatic turn of events, a dazed and confused Zack distracted Teddy behind the wheel and the car went plunging into some icy waters. It really didn't seem like anyone would make it out alive. Teddy stumbled onto the riverbank, while Zack was presumed dead. Luckily, he survived, but was in for a further amount of heartbreak when Barney decided that he didn't want a relationship with him. Nicola has since tried to gloss over the situation – this week hosting a Half-Christmas celebration to try and distract her stressed and broken teenage son. Harry was less than enthusiastic about the festivities, and decided to invite Zack along, telling him that Barney was hopeful of his attendance. Blissfully unaware that this was just a giant fib, Zack wandered in to No. 1 in tonight's episode with a gift for his son. Nicola ordered him out, but Teddy remained silent. Mortified by the reception, Zack left, but told Barney that he would forever be there should he need him. Later, an emotional Barns' headed to the cafe, where Teddy sat down for a heart to heart. He assured him that although they weren't biologically related, nothing had changed and he still considered him as his child. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? In a surprising move, Teddy gave his blessing for Barney to get to know Zack better. Barney asserted that he already had a dad and had no intentions of changing that. More Trending Opening his present, it contained a number of vouchers for a local book shop. He was warmed by the gesture, and when Zack arrived, asked if they'd like to get to know one another better as friends. It wasn't exactly how Zack had wanted things to go, but it was a step in the right direction. View More » Is this the start of some happiness for the two?
