Track or Trail? Infiniti Shows Off Some Possible Variants of the QX80 SUV at The Quail

Yahoo2 days ago
Infiniti revealed a pair of concept at the 2025 edition of The Quail to show off some possible variants of the brand's largest crossover.
The QX80 Terrain Spec concept features more rugged styling, a raised suspension, and all-terrain tires.
The QX80 Track Spec concept features a more aggressive look and a tweaked twin-turbocharged V-6 with more than 650 horsepower.
Infiniti's biggest SUV is the QX80, and the posh three-row was just redesigned for the 2025 model year with an increased focus on luxury. Now, the brand is rolling out some special concept versions at 2025's The Quail during Monterey Car Week to explore what else the QX80 can do, starting with the Track Spec and Terrain Spec concepts.
Track Spec: Hmm
A Track Spec concept is certainly surprising for an SUV this size. We've driven the new QX80, and it's not a sporty thing. The concept looks the part, with quad exhaust pipes, a rear diffuser, and big 24-inch wheels.
Infiniti says they've upgraded the performance too, with a revised twin-turbocharging system for the QX80's V-6 that raises horsepower above the 650 mark and boosts torque to over 750 pound-feet. Larger front Brembo brakes have also been added to help slow the QX80 Track Spec down.
Terrain Spec Is a Good Look
The Terrain Spec concept looks badass and aligns more with the QX80's stout SUV platform. A raised suspension and unique wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires provide more capability than the standard model, and adventurous add-ons such as fender flares, a side-exit exhaust, and a roof-mounted light bar complete the look.
A rooftop tent is also included, which seems to insinuate that the QX80 Terrain Spec is destined for overlanding duty. That's a far cry from the paved parking lot of the Napa Valley Four Seasons, the luxury hotel where Infiniti hosted the first drive event for the redesigned QX80 last year.
Whether or not either of these concepts will make it to production as a special edition of the QX80 remains to be seen, but given that Nissan just launched a NISMO version of the Armada SUV—a corporate twin to the Infiniti—it does seem possible that a hotted-up version could be in the works for real.

Eccentrica Pacchetto Titano is a track-focused Lamborghini Diablo restomod

For 2025 Monterey Car Week, San Marino-based restomod firm Eccentrica is rolling out a more track-focused version of its Lamborghini Diablo upgrade package. Designed for "occasional track days," according to the company, the Titano Package sharpens the Diablo in a way Lamborghini never did when the V12 supercar was in production. The package includes suspension changes, a new ECU map, and subtle styling changes, all of which will be shown off on a new build called the Pacchetto Titano at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering. Eccentrica is also bringing two other cars-dubbed Rose Phoenix and Green Dragon-to demonstrate configuration possibilities. Those suspension changes consist of stiffer springs and a recalibration of the adaptive dampers for "heightened lateral responsiveness and precision feedback, without compromising comfort on spirited canyon roads," according to an Eccentrica press release. The other major mechanical change is an ECU remap that "enhances throttle response across the rev range," according to Eccentrica. The company didn't mention any changes in output, but for reference its standard tune for the Diablo's 5.7-liter V12 delivers 542 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. That power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. It wouldn't be a track-day special without carbon-fiber aerodynamic aids, and the Titano Package checks that box. A fixed carbon-fiber rear wing, as well as some other small changes to the bodywork, help increase downforce without dramatically altering the looks of the car. Lightweight wheels with carbon-aluminum construction, in a staggered 19-inch front/20-inch rear setup, are also part of the package. In addition to the wheels, changes to the cooling ducts for the Brembo braking system help further reduce unsprung mass. The Pacchetto Titano doubles down on that with exposed carbon-fiber bodywork, but customers will presumably be able to choose paint as well. The car also has a fire-suppression system and Alcantara upholstery with billet aluminum accents, along with a compact steering wheel with blue center stripe. Eccentrica didn't break out pricing for the Titano Package, but its builds start at $1.4 million, not including the cost of a donor car. The company plans to build just 19 of its Eccentrica V12 restomods, and aims for each build to be unique. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Five Days in Monterey, the Center of the Automotive Universe

Ahoy from Monterey Car Week, a car lover's nirvana, where the only things louder than the combustion engines rumbling in the cool morning fog are the blazers on some of the gentlemen on the lawn of the Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. It's Hannah Elliott, and I've been on California's central coast since Wednesday, interviewing car executives and eating my way through the Italian restaurants of Carmel. (Go to Casanova.) Oh, and driving. Lots of driving.

Infiniti QX65 Monograph: Why it's a big deal for the brand

Infiniti revealed its QX65 Monograph at Monterey Car Week. Infiniti Americas vice president Tiago Castro tells Yahoo Finance Senior Autos Reporter Pras Subramanian why this vehicle is an important part of the brand's product renaissance. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Asking for a Trend. We're at the Quail event at the Infiniti stand. I'm here now with Thiago Castro, the head of the Americas here at Infiniti, with the new vehicle, the QX65. Now, it's a concept but we're going to see a similar car. Talk to me why this product is so important in that ultra competitive mid-size SUV space. First of all, thank you for for joining us here, Pras. It's a it's an honor to have you here. QX65 monograph, beautiful vehicles you see. Uh we're trying to attack this uh the biggest segment in the industry, really for the luxury industry, with a true roll fastback, really sexy SUV which will bring more customers to Infiniti and allow us to continue our growth path. Um so that that's the event here. Showing the vehicle in front of a lot of people. This is a concept as you just said, uh but it gives you a good hint of what's coming next spring, 2026. So, yeah, but next spring, right. So, but but Infiniti though is in the middle, I I believe, of a product Renaissance. Talk to me about that and how the QX kind of sits in that in that perspective. Absolutely. So we're in the middle of a product Renaissance that really started with the QX80 uh last year. This vehicle has built been building momentum. We actually had this year the best seven months ever in sales for the QX80. So really good moment. Uh we are now transition to launching the new QX60. That's our three row SUV uh is smaller than the QX80. Uh also doing really well. Both of them are up year over year. And next year, we launched the QX65. And the goal now as we accelerate the future is to launch one vehicle per year for the foreseeable future. So you mentioned, you know, strong sales of the of the 80, which is that full-size SUV back there. It's a very popular segment in America. But Infiniti overall with Nissan, you know, you had a rough patch and you're sort of emerging from that. What's sort of the game plan there to get that, the two brands sort of on the right path here in the United States? So so first of all, yeah, nobody can just say that we didn't have a tough year last year. Very clear. Uh but here's the important part. We have a very clear understanding what needs to happen. There's full alignment in the global team and the regional leadership team that, in order for Nissan to be stronger, Infinity needs to be strong. So we're going to invest in the right product and the right moment. Uh today, in addition to the QX65, you can see two concept cars for the QX80. So this is our flagship model. What we're trying to do is to check with the market, what do people really like. We're look at two sides of the spectrum. One is the QX80 Tracks Pack. Tracks Pack is think about getting our current engine and increasing horsepower and torque by more than 50%. Torque is up to 750. So think about this. And then horsepower is 650 plus. But not word plus is just plus, you know? So I mean, pretty competitive features here. Absolutely. uh with Infiniti and kind of versus the competition. But Infiniti being a Japanese automaker and having a presence around the world, tariffs are sort of a thing that's that's a story these days in the automotive sector. Do you have a deal with Japan in the US with like 15% that helps, but not with Mexico and Canada. Where do you sit there? How do you battle tariffs from an Infiniti point of view? Well, the first step for us was to understand the the product portfolio and how can we optimize delivery. So for example, QX50, we had to pause the production into the US. Uh and but in Canada there's a lot of opportunity. So we ship more vehicles there. We also increase production of QX60 that is built here in the US. The good news, for example, is the QX65 behind us will be built here in the US as well. So very important for us to increase that footprint. Um but then we continue to accelerate um for example on the flagship model uh that I just mentioned. We we want to continue to bring them and not stop, you know. The customers are reacting very well and we need to deliver the vehicle. So even if they're built abroad in other places where you're facing tariffs, you're able to still sell the product and maybe absorb some of that cost. Absolutely. And then identify you know, where's the opportunity for example to reduce costs every elsewhere. There's other things you can do. So it is a evolving uh challenge for sure. Uh but we have to do this.
