Aamir Khan's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' cleared by CBFC amid unclear stand on suggested cuts
MUMBAI: Aamir Khan's much-anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par has officially been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), days after reports surfaced of a dispute over suggested edits. However, it remains unclear whether the CBFC passed the film with the cuts or if Aamir stood his ground and the board relented.
A few days ago, reports indicated that the CBFC had recommended two cuts in the film, which Aamir Khan reportedly refused to accept. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, a source had earlier stated, 'With Aamir Khan not accepting the cuts, the censor certificate wasn't awarded to Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir now plans to once again meet the CBFC Examining Committee on Monday and put forward his point of view. Hopefully, a solution will be achieved and the CBFC will pass the film on June 16. Once that's done, the advance booking of the film will be thrown open.'

An insider told the publication, 'An audit was commissioned to assess the extent of the leak and the resulting impact on revenue. Ernst & Young (EnY) submitted a comprehensive report that pegged the loss at approximately Rs. 91 crore." The audit reportedly measured the difference between projected and actual earnings following the leak. Advanced tracking tools were used to monitor illegal downloads and streams, calculating the financial damage caused to the film's theatrical and digital revenue. 'Such audits often include a blend of data from ticketing platforms, distributor reports, and forensic tracing of piracy dissemination," the source added. 'The Rs. 91 crore figure wasn't arbitrary – it is rooted in a loss of potential theatrical and digital revenue." In a surprising twist, the pirated version of Sikandar contained scenes not included in the final theatrical cut. These included sequences such as medical students meeting Sikandar in Dharavi, an extended flashback highlighting Kamaruddin's health issues, and a heartfelt conversation where Sikandar learns about Rashmika Mandanna's character's dream of becoming a lawyer. Aamir Khan on refusing to sell Sitaare Zameen Par on OTT: I want to revive the theatre business
After the underwhelming response to his last film, Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), the ambitious remake of Tom Hanks' much popular Forrest Gump (1994), Aamir Khan is returning with a local adaptation of another international feature. This time, it's the Spanish film Champions (2018). The movie tells the story of an abrasive basketball coach and his interactions with ten neurodivergent people. The actor-producer says that he was deeply moved by the Spanish film and wanted to make a palatable Indian version through Sitaare Zameen Par. Addressing the discussions around the film, Aamir says that he doesn't have a problem with remakes. 'They are a new canvas for me. Besides Laal Singh Chaddha, many of my earlier films were remakes too. Be it Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), which was based on Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet or Ghajini (2008) and they were all hits,' he says. The actor adds that the 'sudden problem' with remakes is something that has been started by social media trolls. 'I believe in remakes and will keep doing it all my life. Why shouldn't I do it? If you don't want to see it, then don't. It's your choice,' Aamir says. 'Remakes are more than just cut, copy and paste. You have to put your own life into it.'
