Stuart Kettlewell hails Max Stryjek after Kilmarnock's cup win over Livingston

The Pole denied his former club on a number of occasions as Killie took control of Group H.
Stryjek has returned to Scottish football three years after leaving Livi for Wycombe and after a season of largely playing understudy at Jagiellonia Bialystok in his homeland.
Speaking after his first home match in charge, Kettlewell said of his keeper: 'You just see his experience, don't you? He's some character, but he just wants to play football. He wants to get back out on the pitch.
'He's been a guy for a number of years now that's been active in the game, playing, being involved, under pressure, doing well.
'So I think you can kind of see that in his performance. He's been really vibrant about the place and delighted that he performed as well as he did.'
Killie triumphed thanks to a 31st-minute own goal from Mo Sylla, who was unfortunate to see the ball bounce in off him after some poor handling from goalkeeper Jerome Prior.
'I need to rein myself in for being negative, because I absolutely think we can play much better than what we did,' Kettlewell added. 'I think we'll have to over the course of the season.
'What the players showed us was a bit of grit, a bit of determination, to make sure they dragged themselves across the line to get the three points.'
Livingston manager David Martindale was encouraged by some of his team's attacking play and is set to add to his squad in the coming days.
Martindale will attend a work permit hearing on Thursday in a bid to sign 36-year-old DR Congo international striker Jeremy Bokila from Willem II, who were relegated from the Dutch top flight last season.
'I'm pretty confident it will get passed, he is coming from a real top level,' he said.
'And then there's two younger ones who I'm speaking to their parent clubs about. Whether that's going to be loans or permanent deals…
'If I can get those three players in the building this week or early next week, I'll be over the moon with what we've got, although we would need to trim the squad a bit.'

Tottenham 2 Wycombe 2: Strong Spurs side come from behind to salvage draw against League One opposition

TOTTENHAM Hotspur's pre-season preparations continued with a 2-2 draw against League One side Wycombe Wanderers at the club's Enfield training ground. Spurs were forced to come from behind after a costly error from goalkeeper Brandon Austin but Pape Sarr's brace ensured the game ended all square. 6 Pape Sarr pictured right scored twice to rescue a draw for Spurs Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 6 Tottenham captain Son Heung-min had more pre-season minutes in the game Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 6 Thomas Frank's team will play two games within four hours Credit: Shutterstock Editorial Thomas Frank's side had the early advantage in the 15th minute. Wilson Odobert, one of the standout performers in the opening exchanges, cut in from the right and unleashed a shot from just outside the box. Wycombe goalkeeper Mikki van Sas parried the effort only for the ball to spill into the path of Pape Sarr who calmly slotted home for a 1-0 lead. It was a promising start for Spurs, who looked comfortable with their mix of first-team regulars and exciting newcomers. Odobert in particular had been lively on the right flank, showing glimpses of the flair that has caught the eye in pre-season. However, Spurs' momentum was stunted in the 34th minute when a mistake from Austin allowed Wycombe to equalise. A well-timed run by Wycombe's Junior Quitirna forced a shot on the edge of the box and although Austin initially got a hand to it, the ball squirmed under him and trickled into the net. Tottenham had dominated possession in the first half but were punished for Austin's blunder, leaving the game level at the break. The second half started with more fireworks. Just five minutes after the break, Wycombe took the lead with a clinical strike from their winger, Quitirna. The goal left Spurs with work to do, but they responded well to the setback. Odobert continued to impress down the right, and Richarlison, Son, and Sarr all combined to create chances in the final third. Thomas Frank has held his first press conference as Tottenham manager - what did we learn? Tottenham's persistence paid off in the 66th minute when Pape Sarr rose to the occasion once again. A well-timed run from midfield saw Sarr who wen't past his marker before finding himself unmarked in finished confidently past van Sas to draw Spurs level at 2-2. Despite some late pressure from both sides, neither team could find a winner. It was a case of two steps forward and one step back for Spurs, as they were unable to put Wycombe away despite a strong second-half performance. Celtic in unexpected stadium change that will delight Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers' men take on St Mirren in their season opener as they aim to kickstart their quest for a fifth successive Scottish Premiership title. The sides drew 1-1 on the final league matchday of last season, with James Forrest's late leveller proving crucial. Read more: Ahead of next weekend's meeting, Celtic have made widescale upgrades to their home dugouts. Indeed, the dugouts have been raised to pitch level, having previously been a step down. Also, a third row of padded seats has been added, with the first two rows of seats themselves being upgraded. Pictures of the new dugouts recently surfaced on X: The New Celtic Park Dugouts : ▪️ Raised to pitch level ▪️ 2 rows of modern seats and a 3rd row of what looks like padded seating (previously there was only 2 rows of seats) ▪️ Seating now has entrance & exit at both the left hand side and central. — Celtic Curio (@Celticcurio) July 26, 2025 Before they return to domestic action next weekend, Celtic face Al Ahli in the Como Cup this evening. Rodgers' side were well beaten by Ajax in their tournament opener on Thursday, with the Dutch giants running out emphatic 5-1 winners. "The scoreline doesn't quite reflect the game," Rodgers said post-match. "For the first 60 minutes we played a lot of really good football, we were physical, broke through their pressure, scored one, could have had more. Thei first goal, the guy's handballed it, so we were disappointed with that. "We scored an outstanding goal, playing through the pressure and had other really, really good moments. You can see also with Ajax, they have top players and play the system really well, but we were very much there in the game. The third goal we gave away was a disappointing one. "We've pushed the players really hard in the pre-season, so it looked a wee bit leggy, but that aside, we should keep the ball better and can be better in duels. The two final goals are probably a consequence of that."

Inside Rangers owner Andrew Cavenagh's secret Ibrox mission as he bought ticket and sat with normal fans before takeover

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ANDREW CAVENAGH made up his mind to secure a controlling investment in Rangers as he brought a regular ticket and sat in the cheap seats in the Copland Stand. Cavenagh, who made his money in the US health insurance sector, secured a 51% stake in tandem with 49ers Enterprises big hitter Paraag Marathe in June. Former Rangers director Paul Murray, who had met Cavenagh weeks earlier, told the Daily Record: "I think the two things which really struck me about Andrew that day were, first of all he was really engaged and obviously really interested in what I was saying, but also we were playing a game against Hearts at Ibrox a couple of days later on the Sunday. "He actually said to me, 'I think I'll just with all fly up to and he Ibrox and go to the 'I'm game.' "I asked if he wanted me on his chat to try to speak to someone and he said, 'No, I'll just get a ticket and I'll just go.' "As it turned out, for various reasons he wasn't able to go as he had some family stuff on, but he then contacted me about a week later and said he wanted to go to the Dundee United game, which was in the middle of November. "Again, I asked if he wanted me to help and he said, 'No, I'll just go and get a ticket - a normal ticket for any area of the ground.' I think he actually went into the Copland (Road) Stand. "But I thought that was quite interesting. A guy with that wealth and he just thought, 'I'm going to buy a ticket.' "He flew up to Glasgow, bought a ticket on his own. He went with a couple of other guys and you might remember it was a really bizarre game because it was meant to be a three o'clock kick-off on the Saturday and it was really bad weather. "It was the middle of November, but there were snow drifts and crazy weather to the point that Dundee United couldn't get down the A9. Rangers fans unfurl giant tifo ahead of Russell Martin's first match "He actually contacted me to say, 'When does the game start?' "I said, 'I've just looked and apparently it's been delayed until four o'clock!' "So it was a really weird day and Andrew was basically walking about the stadium, looking at the stands and nobody knew who this guy was. "The other thing that happened that day was there were quite a lot of fan protests as well as having the snow drifts to contend with. But it obviously didn't put him off."
