Bushwick's Best Dive Bar Food Is Expanding Into Manhattan and Williamsburg
is a Social Video Producer at Eater, focusing primarily on New York City. He covers restaurants big and small and more importantly, the people behind them. Lori Jayne, which started as a Bushwick bar food experiment, is going to open something new in Manhattan in September, followed by a Williamsburg location next year. And, ahead of these big plans, the current pop-up, found in dive bar Alphaville, where it has been since 2023 and gained a following, will have its last day on Saturday, August 24. It's not for lack of customers: Lori Jayne — which takes its name from owner Sam Braverman's mother — first launched serving juicy, tender fried chicken. But with the encouragement of video journalist Rob Martinez, who featured the then-little-known bar program on his social media, Braverman decided to make a foray into steak frites. Branching out paid off, and soon, customers began to catch on that the city's best steak frites deal at just $20 was not at one of many new French restaurants opening, but at his dive bar headquarters. Served in a paper boat and accompanied by chopsticks, the dish got attention from the Infatuation, the New York Times, and Eater. Braverman has continued to put out dive bar bites like gochujang-glazed nuggets and pork belly-topped fries to chili cheese bacon burgers with crispy capers. His food tapped into something Bushwick was craving: fun and care to familiar bar food in a very laid-back space. It helped that Braverman has a sense of humor, often announcing specials on his page in monotone. Steak frites and the burger at Lori Jayne. Sergio Scardigno/Eater But, as Braverman tells Eater, he quickly outgrew the Bushwick space. 'We haven't been able to give people the full Lori Jayne experience,' he says. While the static menu seems straightforward, tuning into the Instagram account quickly reveals Sam's brain is itching to try whatever delicious intrusive thought hits him next, like the confit miso pork belly sandwich with Buffalo sesame oil slaw, on a toasted bun made with steak butter. Also, given that this operation was attached to a nightlife spot, Braverman, a soon-to-be dad, wanted to make the business more sustainable. Over the years, Braverman had trailed at various top restaurants in Manhattan, but nothing quite stuck. 'I didn't really fit in the kitchens I was trying to work in, so I learned more and worked harder and built my own,' he says. He mentioned in a previous interview that he knew of Alphaville because he had performed there as a musician, and a buddy tipped him off that they needed someone to take over the kitchen. In a video posted to the Lori Jayne Instagram account over the weekend, Braverman announced the last day at Alphaville for August 24. Meanwhile, he tells Eater he has signed a deal to open Lori Jayne in Manhattan this September at a quick-service spot, though he said he could not announce the address yet. It's just the beginning: Braverman also tells Eater he is in negotiations to open a full-service version of Lori Jayne in Williamsburg next year. 'We want to go to a place where everything, from the music to the beverage selection to, you know, even how you're greeted when you come in, is, like, part of the ecosystem of Lori Jayne,' he says. He hopes these next moves will allow him to expand his offerings, including starting to sell bottled sauces (recently, he made one made with ramps). 'We need to make a change,' Braverman says, 'a drastic change, and push ourselves to get to that next level.' Steak frites at Lori Jayne. Sergio Scardigno

Anna Delvey Rabbit Drama Explained After Bunnies Dumped in Park
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Notorious fraudster Anna Delvey is back in the spotlight this week after an assistant on one of her photoshoots admitted to abandoning rabbits in a New York park — the bizarre end to an unusual chain of events. Newsweek has emailed Delvey outside of regular working hours for comment. Why It Matters Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, first made headlines back in October 2017, when she was arrested for pretending to be a German heiress to deceive hotels, banks and individuals out of over $200,000. In 2019, she was found guilty of eight theft-related charges. She was released from prison in 2021 but was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying her visa. She was released from ICE in 2022 and is currently under house arrest. Her story was the subject of the Netflix miniseries Inventing Anna, in 2022. BG048/Bauer-Griffin/GC Images/What To Know The case of the abandoned rabbits began with a post on a local Facebook group about a bunny dumped in Brooklyn's Prospect Park, according to Terry Chao, a vegan blogger who documented the drama on her Instagram account. Chao and others saved the cotton-tailed hopper on Monday, and named it Parker. Three days later, Chao said, a second rabbit was seen in the park and also rescued. This rabbit was christened Moon. It was a mystery as to how the two long-eared lagomorphs ended up in Prospect Park. Then, the Anna Delvey photos appeared. The scammer-turned-social-media-star posted a series of images to her Instagram profile posing with two rabbits on leashes. A video of her and the tethered carrot munchers was also uploaded. Chao said she was notified on Saturday about the shoot but initially did not know that the bunnies she had saved in the park were the same animals in Delvey's photoshoot. However, she soon realized they were, and in a strange twist of fate, revealed she had been contacted by the photographer's assistant, Christian Batty, about using her own pet for the shoot. "I saw the person tagged in the insta post, oh, it was the same person who tried to scout my bunny!" Chao wrote. "That's weird, I thought. Wait, the bunny Anna is holding and trancing (a type of hold on the bunny's back that puts it into a fear state) is strikingly similar to Parker." Instagram users began accusing Delvey and her team of abandoning the rabbits, which they denied. In one reply, Delvey wrote: "I will find and sue dimwits like yourself who simply refuse to accept that the bunnies that were borrowed for our shoot are safe at home with their owners." Batty wrote in response to another commenter: "It isn't the same bunny, as that bunny is located in Yonkers. And as you said you found 4 bunnies in prospect park, we only had 2. One so happens to look like one of the ones you found in the park and now it's Anna's fault? It sounds like someone trying to find an easy solution to a problem bigger than a photoshoot with rabbits that were ethically sourced!" Batty eventually though, came clean. In a post shared by Delvey on Instagram Stories the assistant wrote: "I lied to Anna, and the rest of Anna's team about the rabbits." "When I realized the rabbits were being surrendered to me, I panicked. At 19, with no experience caring for animals, no pet-friendly housing, and no knowledge of available resources, I felt overwhelmed and made the worst possible choice. Believing mistakenly, that there were existing rabbits in that area, I released them there, thinking that was my best option. That belief was wrong, and I regret it deeply." Newsweek contacted Batty for comment via direct message on Facebook, and also on Instagram, but that account later appeared to be deactivated. Chao said on Instagram that Batty "did physically show up to help me successfully catch" a third rabbit that appears not to have been used in the final photoshoot Newsweek emailed Chao for further comment outside of regular working hours. What People Are Saying Terry Chao, on Instagram, wrote: "I hope this entire episode has helped in spreading awareness that you CANNOT DUMP YOUR PETS in the park. Owning a pet is a PRIVILEGE not a right." What Happens Next Chao shared in posts to social media that she is taking donations to help care for the bunnies, and looking for foster families for them.

Sophie Turner Hit Back At Someone Who Suggested She'd 'Forgotten' About Her Kids Because She Went To A Concert With A Friend, And Her Response Is Perfect
Last week, Sophie Turner shared a bunch of photos and videos of herself living her best life at an Oasis concert with a friend. But sadly, one internet user took Sophie's post as an opportunity to mom-shame her, questioning why she wasn't with her kids. Related: As you might know, Sophie shares two young daughters with her ex-husband, Joe Jonas. And while their 2023 split was initially incredibly messy, the pair appear to be on good terms now, and have talked openly about coparenting between the UK, where she is from, and the US, where he is from. Last year, Sophie admitted that she 'hates' being alone at her house while her kids are with Joe, describing her loneliness as 'absolute agony' during a chat with Harper's Bazaar. In the same interview, Sophie told the outlet, 'I want [my kids] to see me having a social life and enjoying work and thriving in my career and relationships. I'll come back and say, 'This is why Mummy was away – it's because she's doing this for you, so Father Christmas can come with a big bundle of presents.'' Related: And so, it's perhaps unsurprising that Sophie was so quick to hit back at the Instagram user who mom-shamed her under her Oasis post. The user wrote, 'lmfao i think she has forgotten that she has two kids,' to which Sophie replied, 'ah I'm so sorry sometimes I forget some people can't think for themselves. So…. Get this….There's this crazy thing called shared custody. Maybe, just maybe, they were with their dad that day.' Sophie has since been flooded with support from infuriated fans who are calling out the double standards around expectations from mothers compared to fathers. 'I'm sure no one is commenting on the Jonas accounts wondering why he isn't with his kids,' one user wrote. 'Yet no one comments 'I think he has forgotten he has 2 kids' under Joe's posts. Double standards in 2025 is crazy,' another person echoed. Related: 'no one gives a fuck if men piss off for milk and never come back but a woman does a single thing except be a walking breathing incubator and robot that just follows her kids around she's the worst mother in the world,' someone said, while another simply added, 'Mom's truly can't win.' 'ppl gotta ease up! Moms can't do it 'right' no matter wtf they do these days,' one comment said. Someone questioned, 'Are moms not allowed to have friends and take pictures without their kids?' Another user asked, 'Do people not realize that parents have lives outside of their children?' Meanwhile, one more person added, 'The fact that it's a woman doing the shaming makes it so much more heartbreaking to read.' Related: Indeed, it is so, SO exhausting to see mothers get these types of comments in 2025. Let us know what you think down below.
