Ignacio Bahamondes promises fireworks against Rafael Fiziev: 'I'm willing to die in there'
Don't blink when Ignacio Bahamondes and Rafael Fiziev fight at UFC on ABC 8.
Bahamondes (17-5 MMA, 6-2 UFC) meets Fiziev (12-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) in Saturday's co-main event (ABC, ESPN, ESPN+) at Baku Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan.
With Fiziev coming from a muay Thai background, and eight of his 12 professional wins coming by knockout, Bahamondes guarantees a banger of a fight – but plans on showing he's a different level.
"Fiziev is a striker just like me," Bahamondes told MMA Junkie. "I think wherever he is good, I'm way better than him. On the ground, after my fight with Jalin Turner, my ground game has been exceeding its limit. My ground game is every time more dangerous, but I would love to take this fight to the three rounds. I would like to dominate my opponent for three rounds so I have time to show everything I got, everything I got in my arsenal, and take him to school for three rounds.
"It's going to be fireworks for three rounds, five minutes, whatever the fight lasts. It's going to be fireworks. You know Fiziev doesn't play, he goes to fight, and you know I don't play either. I'm going to stand in there, and I'm going to try and finish him. So, it's going to be exciting to see that fight how it goes because I'm willing to die in there. So, I hope he's there and ready to die, too."
A win over Fiziev will give Bahamondes an opportunity to enter the UFC's lightweight rankings, and he has big goals should things go according to plan.
"I think I deserve a top 10, and after this fight, it's going to be the beginning of my title run," Bahamondes said.

Advertisement Fresh off an animated contest between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun, in which Clark was involved in multiple physical altercations and was even shoved to the floor, Smith did not hold back his opinion. 'There's also resentment towards her because she instigates resentment towards her…," Smith said on Wednesday. "The whole Angel Reese thing with her started because when Caitlin (Clark) was giving it to everybody else, she was the one waving her in their face." Smith not only pointed to the skirmishes against the Sun but to broader incidents involving Clark and Angel Reese. Smith has been going viral for his controversial takes and a solitaire moment from the NBA Finals Game 4 and this take will surely put more fuel into the fire. Clark's resilience shone through, though. The star followed the incidents with a logo three-pointer over the Sun bench, screaming at her rivals and rallying Fever fans. Tofiq Musayev ready for 'different level' in UFC on ABC 8 debut

Tofiq Musayev ready for 'different level' in UFC on ABC 8 debut Tofiq Musaev enters his UFC on ABC 8 debut with a more decorated resume than most newcomers, but he knows stepping into the octagon is something unto itself. Musayev (22-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who won the 2019 Rizin FF lightweight grand prix and has beaten the likes of Patricky Freire, Johnny Case and Sidney Outlaw, will test himself against the 155-pound roster in the UFC starting with Saturday's matchup against Myktybek Orolbai (13-2-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at Baku Crystal Hall in Azerbaijan (ABC, ESPN, ESPN+). "It's a dream of all fighters to be fighting in the UFC," Musayev said through an interpreter at Wednesday's UFC on ABC 8 media day. "It's a different level of course. I feel very lucky that I'm ere. I have fought in different organizations but this is a unique one. I have prepared well and I am going to represent my country with pride. I have prepared specifically for my opponent." Although Musayev has proven himself to be high level, there's speculation about whether, at 35, he's coming into the shark tank of the UFC's lightweight division too late to rise to the top. Only time will tell, but he intends to give it his best shot. "Age is just a number for me," Musayev said. "If anyone thinks otherwise, they shouldn't even be competing in the UFC." "I'm focused on my opponent and later on I will focus on the next steps. This fight will determine what the next fights will be."

Arizona State football undervalued in ESPN metric, ESPN writer says: 'Fire and motivation'

ESPN has released its Football Power Index (FPI) ratings and projections for the 2025 college football season and you have to scroll down a bit to find the Arizona State Sun Devils football team, the defending Big 12 champions. The Sun Devils are the second Big 12 team in the rankings, coming in at No. 24 in the nation. Kansas State is the lone Big 12 team above them, at No. 21. Advertisement The FPI gives Kenny Dillingham's team a 13% chance to win the Big 12 and a 16.1% chance to return to the College Football Playoff in the upcoming season. Kansas State leads the conference at 19.9% to win the Big 12 and 22.2% to make the playoff. Big 12 football win total odds: Arizona | Arizona State | Baylor | BYU | Cincinnati | Colorado | Houston | Iowa State | Kansas | Kansas State | Oklahoma State | TCU | Texas Tech | UCF | Utah | West Virginia | Big 12 rankings Arizona State football 'undervalued' in ESPN ranking? Is ASU football being undervalued in ESPN's predictive metric? Advertisement Plenty of Arizona State, Big 12 and college football fans would probably answer that question in the affirmative. One ESPN writer does, too. Paolo Uggetti wrote that "it would not shock me to see them (Arizona State) make another playoff run." He wrote of ASU's FPI ranking: "Even though Kenny Dillingham said at Big 12 spring meetings recently that being considered one of the conference's favorites after being picked to finish last in 2024 is 'less fun,' I still think FPI is slightly undervaluing the Sun Devils at No. 24. Sure, they lost star running back Cam Skattebo to the NFL draft, but they also return a quarterback in Sam Leavitt (2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns last year) who could be a Heisman contender, wide receiver Jordyn Tyson (1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns) and defensive back Xavion Alford, among several other starters and stalwarts of last year's Cinderella season. Dillingham won't flinch at now being considered a favorite to win the conference and I imagine he'll have ASU with plenty of fire and motivation come kickoff. It would not shock me to see them make another playoff run." Big 12 football game picks: Arizona | Arizona State | Baylor | BYU | Cincinnati | Colorado | Houston | Iowa State | Kansas | Kansas State | Oklahoma State | TCU | Texas Tech | UCF | Utah | West Virginia | Projected Big 12 standings, records Is Arizona State football undervalued in ESPN's preseason predictive metric? Some people certainly think so, including an ESPN writer. 'Baked-in bias' against Arizona State, Big 12? Heartland College Sports' Bryan Clinton took it a step further, slamming ESPN's FPI for "baked-in bias" regarding Arizona State, and the Big 12 as a whole. Advertisement Part of his argument: "ESPN's FPI is designed to be a predictive tool, balancing returning production, coaching continuity, schedule strength, and performance data. But the model's outputs this year raise serious questions about baked-in bias. Arizona State, the reigning Big 12 champion, is given just a 16.1% chance to make the College Football Playoff. Kansas State — ranked highest among Big 12 teams — has a 22.2% playoff probability, less than Alabama, Georgia, and Texas, all of whom have tougher paths and more roster turnover." Good thing Arizona State gets a chance to prove itself again on the field. The Sun Devils open their much-anticipated 2025 season on Aug. 30 at home against Northern Arizona.
