ESPN analyst believes the Eagles can overcome Landon Dickerson's meniscus injury

USA Today11 hours ago
One of sports' boldest figures believes the Eagles should be fine despite Landon Dickerson's absence.
The annual Philadelphia Eagles open practice at Lincoln Financial Field has become sort of a mini-holiday. It's something we all look forward to. It's a nice chance to see the Birds work out before the season begins.
A.J. Brown made his return to practice. That was a welcome sight. The best part is it's also a charity function with its proceeds benefiting the Eagles Autism Foundation. This time around, over $630,000 was raised to support this fantastic foundation.
Unfortunately, there's also bad news. One of the bigger stories being discussed a day later is that one of the best players along the offensive front has been lost for the foreseeable future.
Stephen A. Smith believes the Eagles are built to weather the storm of losing one of their best offensive linemen.
By now, you've heard the news. Landon Dickerson, unfortunately, went down on Sunday because of an injury. Monday, an MRI came, and we have learned he has suffered a meniscus injury.
The setback could sideline him anywhere from a few weeks to several months. Additional opinions will be gathered. ESPN's Stephen A. Smith believes Philadelphia can still manage and move forward admirably.
"It's a devastating blow, but if you're ranked as the number one offensive line in the National Football League, which Pro Football Focus (ranked the Eagles) at the beginning of this season, one would surmise that you should be able to overcome it. That doesn't mean it's not a devastating loss. That doesn't mean it's something that can't compromise your success to some degree. If you're Jalen Hurts (or) if you are Saquon Barkley, obviously that offensive line had an enormous amount to do with the success you enjoyed being the reigning and defending Super Bowl champions."
Philadelphia has other interior offensive linemen on the depth chart. Rookie Drew Kendall is a center/guard hybrid. Second-year Bird Trevor Keegan was drafted in 2024.
Here's where veterans like Matt Pryor, Darian Kinnard, and Brett Toth can step up to the plate. Can they get the job done? Only time will tell. We'll see what happens.

Packers reveal Jordan Love injury in preseason twist

The Packers have a sudden Jordan Love injury worry. Green Bay's starting quarterback underwent surgery to repair a ligament in his left, non-throwing thumb on Tuesday, GM Brian Gutekunst announced. Advertisement Love, 26, 'shouldn't miss any regular-season time,' Gutekunst said, and he could be back at practice next week. Love's thumb got hit by a helmet during the Packers' preseason loss to the Jets on Saturday at Lambeau Field at the end of his second series. He practiced Monday before getting the surgery Tuesday. 'Obviously, you guys saw him out there, he certainly was able to function,' Gutekunst told reporters. 'But as we looked at all the options and he did as well, the best option I think for him to get back the fastest and feel the best was to do this. He wanted to go out there [Monday] to kind of see how it felt, and once we got through that, we made the decision.' NFL trailblazers from different eras praise Eagles' QB Jalen Hurts for his uniqueness

Cris Collinsworth and Peyton Manning detail what makes Eagles QB Jalen Hurts so special. Some habits die hard, it seems. Discussing where Jalen Hurts ranks indeed qualifies. As he took the field for the Philadelphia Eagles' open practice to benefit autism, chants of 'MVP' rained down as he began his evening. Hurts returned to Lincoln Financial Field in front of a friendly home crowd like a conquering hero. There are, however, still areas in Philadelphia where his value is questioned, and other regions where he's flat-out disrespected. Most NFL aficionados label guys like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson as the cream of the crop at their position. Others would even throw Josh Allen in that conversation. The argument makes sense. Philadelphia's Super Bowl MVP value is often debated. It's just as easy to find Hurts mentioned as the top guy in that next tier as it is to find theories that a great team and organization carry him. Really? That's where we are now? Recently, two NFL trailblazers (we call them such for different reasons) sat down, and guess whose name came up in the conversation. Cris Collinsworth and Peyton Manning offer their compliments to Eagles star Jalen Hurts. Sometimes, you'll run across a youngster, and he or she will be shocked when you tell him or her that Cris Collinsworth played football. Eight years with the Cincinnati Bengals produced a good career, but he is best known for his work on FOX Sports and, now, NBC. Then, there is Pro Football Focus, where he is the majority owner. PFF has blazed a trail with its own version of storytelling and stat collection. It has truly changed how we view the game. Recently, he was joined by another game-changer, Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee and two-time Super Bowl champion, Peyton Manning. They say game recognize game, and recently, two guys who have given the game so much shared their thoughts on QB play as well as their admiration for the Eagles' star signal-caller. Take that, haters. As an old uncredited saying goes, one's opinion is only as valuable as that person's knowledge of a particular subject. Manning was pretty good at playing quarterback. Like him or not, Collinsworth has seen a ton of football. If they say that they have never met someone more intent or serious, that's good enough for us. And, to you people who believe Baker Mayfield and Justin Herbert are better quarterbacks, to that argument we'll offer another. Wake us up when they win Super Bowls and are named the game's MVP. Don't worry. We'll wait.

Dana White says UFC hosting first-ever White House fight on July 4

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will stage a historic fight at the White House on July 4, 2026, marking America's 250th birthday with what would be the first professional mixed martial arts event ever held at the presidential residence, UFC CEO Dana White confirmed Tuesday. "It is definitely going to happen," White told "CBS Mornings." White said he spoke with President Donald Trump Monday night about the event and plans to meet with Mr. Trump and Ivanka Trump at the end of this month to finalize details and review venue renderings. A source familiar with the planning confirmed that the White House expected the event to happen. "When he called me and asked me to do it, he said, 'I want Ivanka in the middle of this,'" White said. "So Ivanka reached out to me, and her and I started talking about the possibilities, where it would be and, you know, I put together all the renderings." The announcement comes as UFC finalizes a groundbreaking seven-year streaming deal with Paramount worth an average of $1.1 billion annually. The agreement represents a significant shift from UFC's traditional pay-per-view model, with select events to be simulcast on CBS. White called the Paramount deal "one of the massive, major milestones in my career and in the history of the sport." White said the media world is changing but believes pay-per-view is still strong. "I don't know if there's a better way," White said. "There are so many disruptors in the world right now. Who would have thought taxi cabs would disappear or cable television would start to go away?" White said that UFC will continue hosting pay-per-view events, including one scheduled for Saturday in Chicago, while embracing streaming platforms for broader reach. "Live sports, you have to watch live. You have to tune in. It is a destination watch," he said. "Sports are a big deal to these streaming services." No fighters have been announced for the White House event, which White said remains nearly a year away. The venue would mark an unprecedented location for a professional mixed martial arts event that regularly fills stadiums and arenas. The Paramount deal places UFC alongside other major sporting events broadcast on CBS, including the Masters Tournament, NCAA Final Four and Super Bowl. Paramount, a Skydance Corporation, is the parent company of CBS News.
