Genetec upgrades Security Center SaaS with new cloud features
Security Center SaaS integrates video surveillance, access control, forensic search, intrusion monitoring, automation, and additional advanced functions into a single platform.
It is designed to operate fully in the cloud or in a hybrid environment combining on-premises and cloud systems. This approach allows organisations to determine how best to structure and scale their security solutions according to specific requirements.
Platform enhancements
The latest updates to the platform include expanded integration for direct-to-cloud cameras, improved support for edge recording, and the introduction of new analytics integrations from third parties. These capabilities are intended to increase the flexibility and pace at which the system adapts to client needs.
Security Center SaaS's open architecture supports a variety of devices from multiple manufacturers, including Axis, Bosch, and i-PRO. It is compatible with direct-to-cloud, PTZ, and fisheye cameras, now offering automatic de-warping for enhanced image quality and usability. The solution does not require replacement of existing non-cloud-ready cameras, access control devices or intrusion panels. Instead, these can be connected to the platform via Genetec appliances, reducing upgrade and migration costs.
Flexible deployment
The platform is designed to give security professionals freedom in deployment. Organisations can opt for a purely cloud-native solution, maintain on-premises systems, or use a hybrid mix of both.
Video footage can be stored locally on edge devices such as SD cards within cameras or centrally in the cloud, with settings tailored to bandwidth constraints, policy preferences, or operational needs.
Centralised management of these features is available through web and mobile applications, enabling users to control systems from a Security Operations Center or remotely. New edge recording capabilities allow for local storage and subsequent transfer of footage. Recording profiles make it possible to define storage settings across a range of cameras and devices, streamlining management and compliance.
Peer-to-peer streaming
The inclusion of WebRTC technology enables direct video streaming from cameras to web interfaces through peer-to-peer connections.
This development decreases the time needed to bring up video streams and lessens bandwidth use, which is particularly effective for live monitoring or when managing operations across multiple locations simultaneously.
Analytics and real-time response
The system's open architecture also supports integration of analytics from various vendors. For example, new firearm detection analytics developed by Bosch can automatically trigger alerts and initiate workflows whenever a weapon is identified by the platform. Such integrations are intended to enhance the responsiveness and effectiveness of security teams.
Security Center SaaS is suited for use across multiple sectors, including retail, education, corporate campuses, banking, healthcare, and urban infrastructure. Its features are designed to address the operational realities of managing security in distributed or multi-site environments, supporting both centralised and decentralised management as required. "Genetec is redefining what SaaS means for physical security. It's not just moving to the cloud; it's about giving customers and integrators the flexibility to build, scale, and evolve their systems," said Christian Morin, Vice President of Product Engineering at Genetec Inc. "Security Center SaaS stands apart by unifying physical security functions on a single platform, continuously adding new cloud-native capabilities while supporting the hardware and deployment models organisations already rely on."
Genetec has committed to delivering new features to Security Center SaaS on a frequent basis, with updates being introduced every 12 days since its initial release.
This release cycle is designed to ensure the platform remains current and capable of addressing evolving security requirements and operational demands.

Omdia's 2025 Video Surveillance & Analytics Database Report shows Genetec retaining its overall number one position worldwide in video surveillance software. The company is also ranked highest in the broader segment encompassing both video surveillance software and Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS). Omdia has recognised the company's sustained investment in open, scalable, and cybersecure cloud solutions with its addition to the newly introduced VSaaS category. Increasing customer adoption of Security Centre SaaS, released in mid-2024, contributed to Genetec's position within the global top ten for VSaaS. The report placed Genetec at number four in the Americas, reported as the largest and fastest-growing regional market for VSaaS. Genetec's unified offerings, which include both VSaaS and Access Control as a Service (ACaaS), are cited as experiencing strong momentum. This is in response to greater interest from security professionals in unified, cloud-based deployment models. Regional market positions Regionally, Genetec remained the market leader in the Americas for both video surveillance and the combined video surveillance and VSaaS categories. This marks the 14th consecutive year the company has held the top spot in this region. In the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, Genetec maintained its number two position and was highlighted as achieving the highest market share growth among the top ten vendors. In Asia Pacific, Genetec ranked third, according to the Omdia data. "The video surveillance market continues to see steady global growth, driven by rising security demands and faster adoption of new technologies," said Scott Foley, Senior Analyst, Physical Security at Omdia. "According to our research, Genetec remains a consistent global leader in the industry for video surveillance software, maintaining top market share and addressing customer needs with innovative products that meet the evolving needs of organisations worldwide." Separate analysis by Novaira Insights further confirmed Genetec's position as the global market leader in total video surveillance software and service agreements. Novaira noted that Genetec was among the highest-growth vendors, both in hardware and software, within its report. Customer solutions and flexibility "The Genetec philosophy has always been to offer customers more choice, not less," said Christian Morin, Vice President of Product Engineering and Chief Security Officer at Genetec. "Organisations deserve the flexibility to deploy solutions exactly the way they want, whether it's on-premises, in the cloud, or a combination of both approaches – this applies equally to both video surveillance and access control. At Genetec, we develop solutions that give customers this freedom, including the ability to choose the best cameras, appliances, and access control hardware for their needs without ever being locked into proprietary systems." The reports underline the rising demand from customers for solutions that enhance physical security operations and align with organisational needs for cloud, on-premises, or hybrid deployments. Genetec's ongoing strategy has focused on anticipating customer requirements and supporting open, unified systems designed with cybersecurity and privacy in mind. Analyst commentary in both reports describes the company's year-on-year organic growth as steady, and largely attributable to its continued commitment to the principles of system openness, unified architecture, and privacy protection. The company's policy has been to avoid forcing customers into specific hardware or software environments, instead offering a range of integration choices across its Security Centre SaaS and related products. Genetec continues to market its products to enterprises, government agencies, and other organisations globally, supporting video management, access control, and other security functions. The company operates through channels and partners spanning more than 159 countries.

AI leaders urge focus on ethics, governance & sustainability
As AI Appreciation Day approaches, industry leaders are taking the opportunity to reflect on the growing impact of artificial intelligence in Australia and around the world, emphasising both the technology's transformative potential and the urgent challenges of governance, ethics, and sustainability. The application of AI has become widespread across various sectors, including retail, finance, cybersecurity, and human resources. Hayley Fisher, Country Manager ANZ at Adyen, highlights how AI is moving from novelty to necessity in retail, with a 45% increase in AI-powered shopping over the past year. "Whether it's helping Aussies plan meals or pull together an outfit, AI is fast becoming the go-to shopping companion," she says. Fisher also notes that AI is increasingly relied upon behind the scenes to combat fraud, enhance conversion rates, and reduce operational costs, pointing out that businesses that most effectively harness AI are leveraging it to improve outcomes for both teams and customers. Yet as enthusiasm for AI grows, so does the complexity of the risks involved. Andrew Kay, Director Systems Engineering, APJ at Illumio, cautions, "AI is increasingly being used by threat actors to ramp up their attacks. Today's threats are more sophisticated and more accessible, allowing even novice cybercriminals to carry out highly effective attacks." He references a high-profile incident involving a finance worker at a multinational Hong Kong bank, who was manipulated into transferring USD $25 million using a Zoom deepfake scam. However, Kay notes, AI is also enhancing defences: tools such as AI cloud detection and response can now help organisations detect and limit the spread of breaches in real-time. Cybersecurity is not the only area facing a surge in both opportunity and scrutiny. George Moawad, Country Manager Oceania at Genetec, reports that over 40% of security decision-makers are now prioritising AI-driven solutions. However, he underlines growing demands for transparency, governance, and ethics. "This capability also raises concerns about over-surveillance and potential misuse," he notes, advocating for the establishment of oversight committees and clear protocols to ensure AI's responsible use. The focus on governance emerged as a common thread in expert commentary. Vini Cardoso, Chief Technology Officer of Cloudera Australia & New Zealand, emphasises that "strong governance and strategic leadership" are essential as agentic AI - AI that autonomously pursues goals - becomes more prevalent. Pointing to new research and a shift in industry attitudes, Cardoso writes, "AI must be built on secure, well-governed data foundations. Without it, we can't trust the models, let alone scale them safely." Data privacy, bias, and skills shortages remain key obstacles for organisations seeking to deploy AI at scale, particularly in highly regulated sectors such as finance and healthcare. Amid these challenges, industry specialists are also advocating for a broader, more socially responsible dialogue around AI. Simon Wistow, Co-Founder of Fastly, highlights the environmental consequences of AI innovation. "Gen AI isn't just some magical cloud outputting poetry and code, it's millions of GPUs crunching vectors and consuming serious power", he observes, stressing the need for efficiency and transparency in AI development. Survey data from Fastly indicates that 45% of respondents would prioritise energy-efficient models if AI usage costs were tied to energy consumption. Matthew Hardman, APAC Chief Technology Officer at Hitachi Vantara, highlights the foundational requirement of high-quality data and effective project management for successful AI implementation. "AI relies on high-quality, comprehensive data to deliver accurate results," Hardman notes, adding that integrating AI within outdated or hybrid infrastructures requires careful planning. Echoing this, David Lloyd, Chief AI Officer at Dayforce, sees a unique opportunity for HR to take a strategic leadership role - guiding AI adoption in a way that is both ethical and people-focused. The message from industry is clear: for AI to deliver on its promise, businesses must look beyond technical innovation and proactively prioritise governance, ethical use, sustainability, and human empowerment. As organisations continue to deploy AI across all aspects of their operations, industry leaders urge a responsible and balanced approach so that AI's benefits can be safely and inclusively realised for businesses, workers and society at large.
