Anwar unveils three measures to boost Malaysia's semiconductor industry
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia is now ready to provide stronger support to the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), particularly in developing "10+100" national champions.
The "10+100" initiative aims to build 10 Malaysian semiconductor and supply chain companies with revenues between RM1 billion and RM4.7 billion, and to nurture at least 100 more to approach the RM1 billion mark.
"First, we will unlock more catalytic capital to support early-stage research and development, product development, and ecosystem scaling.
"This includes a suite of targeted financing instruments, matching funds, and customised incentives, alongside continued investments by our government-linked investment companies (GLICs), all aimed at strengthening local semiconductor capabilities and advancing Malaysia's position in the global value chain," he said.
He said this during his speech at the closing of the Asean Semiconductor Summit in Kuala Lumpur today.
Present were Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz and Human Resources Minister Steven Sim.
Anwar said Malaysia has so far received over RM2 billion in commitments from the government and crowd-in capital from stakeholders, including Khazanah Nasional Bhd, Kumpulan Wang Persaraan, and Bank Negara Malaysia, as well as through partnerships with global players.
"Second, we will elevate our semiconductor diplomacy through deeper government-to-government cooperation, expanding market access for Malaysian firms and forging trusted technology partnerships.
"As Asean chair, Malaysia will lead efforts to strengthen regional collaboration, positioning Asean as a resilient and competitive hub in the global semiconductor value chain," he said.
Anwar said that through the collaboration between Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science and Technology (Crest) and Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp), the government will strengthen industry-academia partnerships to build a future-ready workforce.
He said this will ensure Malaysia builds focused capabilities and remains competitive in a rapidly evolving, high-tech global landscape.

Anwar arrives in Jakarta for annual consultation with Prabowo
Anwar landed at the Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta at 7.40pm on Monday (July 28). – Bernama JAKARTA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived here to attend the 13th Annual Consultation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The special plane carrying the Prime Minister landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, East Jakarta at 7.40pm on Monday (July 28) and he was welcomed upon his arrival by Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, Indonesian Home Minister Tito Karnavian and Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin. The meeting between the two leaders will take place at Istana Merdeka, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (July 29) morning. The last such consultation between the two countries were held in Kuching, Sarawak on Nov 22, 2017. This session will explore new areas of cooperation and serve as a platform for the two leaders to exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest. Earlier in a media briefing, Syed Mohamad Hasrin said the annual consultations are the highest bilateral mechanism between Malaysia and Indonesia, which aims to strengthen strategic and comprehensive cooperation. During the visit, Anwar is also scheduled to visit the Asean Secretariat in Jakarta at the invitation of Asean Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn and he will deliver a policy speech on Asean in the context of Malaysia's Asean Chairmanship in 2025. – Bernama

Abim: Ceasefire shows Malaysia's strength in conflict mediation
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim) has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, describing it as a significant diplomatic achievement under Malaysia's leadership as Asean chair. In a statement today, Abim extended its highest commendation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his role in brokering the deal, which takes effect at midnight. The ceasefire is expected to de-escalate rising tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border, which have already led to casualties and threatened regional stability. The ceasefire was announced following a special meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, hosted by Anwar at Kompleks Seri Perdana in Putrajaya. Abim's president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said the success reaffirmed Asean's relevance as a regional conflict resolution platform and underscored Malaysia's ability to unite member states with the backing of global powers such as the United States and China, who co-sponsored the talks. "Abim applauds Malaysia's proactive role in restoring regional stability through principled, inclusive, and effective diplomatic engagement," he said. Abim urged these powers to continue supporting Asean's peace-first approach and to avoid exploiting regional tensions for strategic gain. "It also called for respect for regional leadership and efforts to strengthen local capacity in resolving disputes with sovereignty and dignity," he said in a statement. It also proposed the formation of an independent and neutral Asean-led monitoring team to ensure smooth implementation of the truce. "As a show of regional solidarity, Asean humanitarian aid must be delivered urgently to all affected communities, particularly displaced families and those who have lost loved ones or homes in the conflict." Abim appealed to the people of both countries, including social media users, to refrain from spreading hate speech, provocation or unfounded allegations that could undermine efforts towards peace. As part of its ongoing commitment to peacebuilding, Abim said it would continue working with civil society networks across the region to promote dialogue, assist victims of conflict, and ensure that the voices of ordinary people are included in peace efforts. The group also proposed the formation of an Asean Civil Society Conference for Regional Peace and an Asean Peace Education Programme, aimed at youth and communities in border areas.
