2025 New NFL uniforms: Bills Bring Back Red Helmets in Regular Season Finale

Fox News22-07-2025
There are going to be plenty of new looks that you'll have to get accustomed to when the NFL is back in September. In fact, nearly half of the league could be making some sort of change to their uniforms for the 2025 season.
Based on previous announcements, there could be up to 15 teams that make a jersey change, add a new alternate look or redesign their helmets. Teams such as the Los Angeles Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, have announced that they'll unveil a new alternate uniform this summer.
But the big reason why many teams are adding new looks for the upcoming season is due to the NFL's "Rivalries" program. In April, the league announced that it was unveiling "Rivalry" edition uniforms for each team over the next four years as part of its partnership with Nike. The practice will be similar to what Nike does with MLB (City Connects) and NBA (City Edition) uniforms.
AFC East (Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Jets) and NFC West (Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks) teams will be the first group of teams to receive their "Rivalry" uniforms and are expected to debut them for the 2025 season.
As we await more teams to unveil their new looks for the 2025 season, let's take a look at which teams have already unveiled changes to their uniform closet.
The red helmets are back. The Bills announced on Tuesday that they will wear their famous red helmets in Week 18, the final game at Highmark Stadium against their division rival, the New York Jets. The Bills rocked red helmets from 1987-2010, and now they're paying homage to that era and allowing fans to relive some of the best moments in franchise history.
The Bills switched to white helmets with their rebranding in 2011. MVP QB Josh Allen toyed with bringing back the red helmet when he would wear one during scrimmage practices in front of fans in 2022.
The Bills will also be bringing back throwback "Standing Buffalo" uniforms in Week 5 and 11.
New helmets aren't the only additions being made to the Saints' uniform closet for the 2025 season. New Orleans will have new alternate uniforms, too.
The Saints unveiled their gold alternate jerseys on Tuesday, July 22. The jerseys, which the team is calling their "Gameday Golds," are pretty simple-looking. They have a gold base with the black name and number plates that also have white outlining. The collars of the jerseys are also black.
For the vast majority of their existence, the Saints have only worn black and white-based jerseys. In fact, there's only been one instance where they've worn a jersey that didn't have black or white as the primary color. They wore gold jerseys, along with gold helmets and black pants, for a game in 2002.
In Tuesday's unveiling of their gold jerseys, Saints players wore black pants. So, it doesn't appear that gold pants are making their way to New Orleans quite yet. New Orleans didn't announce when it will wear the new gold jerseys in 2025.
The Saints unveiled new helmets earlier in July. The helmets have the Saints' traditional logo placed in the center with its typical gold color. There's also a large gold stripe that goes through the center of the helmet, while the facemasks are also gold.
The Saints are expected to only wear their new helmets in games when they wear their white color rush uniforms, according to New Orleans.football.
The Steelers are throwing it back in 2025, and as far as they can. For their classic alternate this season, they'll be wearing 1933 throwbacks, from when the team was known as the Pittsburgh Pirates – yes, just like MLB's own team, which had been in existence in the city since 1882. They'd remain the Pirates through the 1939 season, and in 1940, swapped monikers to honor something else that Pittsburgh was known for: the Steel City's football team would be known from that point forward as the Steelers.
These jerseys still feature the black and gold, but there is far more of the latter and less of the former in these uniforms than we see today. They're yellow jerseys with some black accents and designs on them, tan pants, and with matching yellow socks. These uniforms were also the Steelers very first throwback, in 1994, though these look a bit different then, with the numbers once again in the center of the jersey as they were in 1933, rather than offset on the shoulder.
The Chargers unveiled new alternative jerseys for the 2025 season on Tuesday morning, featuring the "Charger Power" and "Super Chargers" looks.
The "Charger Power" is a yellow-on-yellow look with white helmets, which will be worn when the Chargers host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7, with the "Super Chargers" being the team's historic navy-blue look, which will be worn when they host the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13.
"I feel like the Chargers have the best uniforms," Chargers safety Derwin James Jr. said. "There's just something about the powder blue, the white, the gold. And after these new alternates drop, it won't be close."
The Buccaneers announced that they're bringing back their 1976 uniform for their 2025 home opener, which is Sept. 21 against the New York Jets. The "Creamsicle" white jersey is a commemoration of the team's 1976 debut season in the sport.
"The '76 Jersey represents a piece of Buccaneers history and serves as a tribute to the generations of fans and players who shaped this franchise," Buccaneers Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford said in a statement. "As we launch into our 50th season, we're proud to reintroduce The '76 Jersey and the tradition it embodies. It is a reminder that every Buccaneers fan, from the originals to the newest generation, is part of an evolving story that started in 1976 and continues being written today."
The white jersey will be joined by white helmets and pants and striped socks, with a 50th season patch on the jersey. "Hey! Hey! Tampa Bay!," the franchise's old rallying cry, is stitched on the collar.
After a surprise NFC Championship Game appearance in 2024, the Commanders are tapping into the franchise's most successful period as the inspiration for their new alternate uniforms. They unveiled their "Super Bowl Era" alternate uniforms on Wednesday, which are modeled after the uniforms the team wore in their Super Bowl wins in 1982, 1987 and 1991.
The jerseys have a white base with burgundy numbers that have gold outlines. There are also gold stripes on the sleeves, while the nameplates are burgundy with gold outlines. The pants and socks will be burgundy, with each having gold outlining, too.
As for the helmets, they'll resemble the helmets the franchise wore during that era, just with their new logo instead of their old one. The burgundy-colored helmet will have white and gold stripes down the center to go with a gold facemask.
The Commanders are scheduled to wear their "Super Bowl Era" uniforms on three occasions in 2025. They'll wear them for the first time when they host the Seahawks in Week 9. They'll wear them again when they host the Denver Broncos in Week 13 and will wear them for the third time when they take on the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas Day in Week 17.

Fantasy football D/ST rankings 2025: What NFL defenses can you trust?

In real life, it's said that defense wins championships. In fantasy football, defense is nothing more than a thorn in your side. The ever-evolving world of fantasy football has seen some changes in recent years, making the removal of defenses a more acceptable league format. For some, it's preferred. For others, it's taking the easy way out. If you are someone who celebrates tradition and enjoys the defensive mayhem that can occur on a football field, this is for you. What are the best fantasy football defenses in 2025? Here's a look at USA TODAY's preseason fantasy D/ST rankings. 2025 POSITION RANKINGS: QB | RB | WR | TE | K | D/ST | Overall top 200 Fantasy football rankings: D/ST 1. Denver Broncos. Despite a difficult division and a middle-of-the-road schedule, the Broncos maintain their hold on the top spot until proven otherwise. They were fantasy's best unit in 2024 and added talent in the offseason. With the Titans and Colts on tap to start the season, Denver can get out to a hot start. Couple that with a favorable schedule for the fantasy playoffs, including two matchups at home, and there is recipe for success. 2. Houston Texans. The Texans benefit from playing in a division that will feature a rookie quarterback in Tennessee and a situation in Indianapolis that will have defensive coordinators salivating. An aggressive DeMeco Ryans defense should only make life more difficult, especially after adding C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the fold. They can challenge for the best fantasy D/ST of 2025. 3. Philadelpia Eagles. Philly lost Milton Williams, Josh Sweat and Darius Slay, but is littered with talent across the board. After a dominant Super Bowl performance, there is more than enough here to continue their strong play. 4. Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are the fast food of the fantasy D/ST realm. It's consistent and you know exactly what you're getting. Sometimes they're better than expected, but it's never bad enough to prevent you from coming back. That counts for something. 5. Pittsburgh Steelers. Another fantasy staple, Pittsburgh has gone all-in for 2025. T.J. Watt's contract dispute ended before it became an issue and the secondary got an upgrade in Jalen Ramsey. Coming off another top-5 finish in 2024, this remains one of the more consistent units to trust in fantasy. 6. Minnesota Vikings. Brian Flores runs an aggressive defense, but J.J. McCarthy being an unknown could put this unit in some tough spots this season. Some key departures mean they're likely to take a step back, but not by much. Still, this isn't a D/ST for the risk averse. 7. Buffalo Bills. The Bills are favored in every game of the 2025 season, meaning they should have plenty of positive game scripts to work with. After forcing 32 turnovers last season, there is no reason to believe a repeat isn't in store, especially since the Bills are no stranger to repeating history. 8. Seattle Seahawks. This team is almost unrecognizable, resembling a group thrown together by the computer in the fifth season of a Madden franchise mode. Yet that is more on the offensive side of the ball as Mike Macdonald's team finished as DST6 in 2024. Having added even more pieces this offseason, things are looking up on young Macdonald's farm. 9. New York Jets. The Jets defense took a step back in 2024, but should benefit from the return of Jermaine Johnson and the addition of Aaron Glenn as head coach. With a team that projects to run the ball and control the clock, their defense should be on the field a lot less in 2025 – creating an all-around more effective unit, even with the question mark that is their offense. 10. Detroit Lions. Despite a lengthy list of injuries in 2024, the Lions still managed a DST10 finish to the season. With new coordinators on both sides of the ball, however, there are some concerns. The reinforcements on the way, especially the return of Aidan Hutchinson, should make the transition smoother though. 11. Los Angeles Rams. The linebackers are an issue, but the Rams looked like a Super Bowl contender last season and have more than enough in the trenches to continue being a problem for the opposition. 12. Green Bay Packers. There is no real weakness in this defense, but they were fairly reliant on turnovers for their fantasy production in 2024. While a team like the Bills worked to address their pass rush concerns, the Packers face the reality of playing in a tougher division with a less-dominant offense. They are still a worthy selection, but it doesn't come without its risks. 13. New York Giants. Big Blue has sleeper potential in 2025, boasting a pass rush that promises to inflict pain and suffering on opposing quarterbacks with Brian Burns and Abdul Carter off the edge. Russell Wilson won't put them in a bad spot with costly turnovers either, boosting the floor for what could be a sneaky good defense. There's a real chance you can get this potential top-10 unit at a major discount. 14. Los Angeles Chargers. Jesse Minter appears to be on the fast track to landing a head coaching job in the near future and it's all thanks to a solid defense. They'll need some progression from their young players in the secondary and production from Khalil Mack, but they can be on the rise throughout the season if things break right. 15. Kansas City Chiefs. Another year older and plagued by a tough 2024 fantasy season, it's hard to get on the Chiefs' bandwagon when it comes to their DST in fantasy. Steve Spagnuolo has done a great job making Kansas City into a solid unit over the years, but there are better options out there. 16. San Francisco 49ers. The return of Robert Saleh also brought some additional investments on defense. San Francisco spent five picks in the top 113 of the draft on defensive players and will look for a return to form in 2025. 17. Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are hoping for a bounce-back season after parting ways with Mike McCarthy. Former Bears coach Matt Eberflus wasn't effective in the big chair, but the hope is he can find some effectiveness again as a coordinator. Dallas has the pieces in place to continue forcing turnovers and generating pressure. Provided they figure out a deal with Micah Parsons, there's no reason they can't return to being a solid fantasy option again in 2025. 18. Arizona Cardinals. A defensive-minded head coach, Jonathan Gannon had the privilege of investing six of seven picks for his unit through the draft. With improvement at all three levels and the signing of Josh Sweat, the Cardinals also feature a schedule with some good matchups early on. The narrative can change quickly for the redbirds. 19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20. Cleveland Browns 21. Washington Commanders 22. New England Patriots 23. Chicago Bears 24. Atlanta Falcons 25. Cincinnati Bengals 26. Indianapolis Colts 27. New Orleans Saints 28. Miami Dolphins 29. Jacksonville Jaguars 30. Las Vegas Raiders 31. Tennessee Titans 32. Carolina Panthers

Minnesota Lynx trade for WNBA All-Defensive guard DiJonai Carrington from Dallas Wings

DiJonai Carrington is on the move again. The Minnesota Lynx have acquired Carrington from the Dallas Wings in exchange for Diamond Miller, Karlie Samuelson and a 2027 second-round pick from the Lynx, both teams confirmed Sunday morning on their respective X (formerly Twitter) accounts. In a corresponding move to process the trade, the Wings have waived seven-year veteran center Teaira McCowan. REQUIRED READING: MVP leader Napheesa Collier injures ankle in Lynx's 53-point win over Aces It is the second trade in a matter of months for Carrington, who was traded to the Wings from the Connecticut Sun back in February. The former second-round pick out of Baylor is averaging 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists this season. The Lynx trading for Carrington, who has a WNBA All-Defensive first-team selection on her resume, comes a day after star forward Napheesa Collier left Minnesota's 111-58 win over the Las Vegas Aces on Aug. 2 with ankle injury. Carrington was named the Most Improved Player last season in the WNBA with the Sun, as she posted career-high averages of 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.56 steals per game, which was an increase from 8.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.63 steals in 2023. She joins a Lynx squad that has a six-game lead over the New York Liberty in the WNBA standings. Miller, a former No. 2 overall pick in 2023, gives the Wings a young forward to pair with Maddy Siegrist, Myisha Hines-Allen and Luisa Geiselsoder. In Samuelson, the Wings get a veteran guard, though she is set to miss the remainder of the season following a season-ending left foot surgery. Happy 100th birthday, Marv Levy

When it comes to Marv Levy, Father Time is far from an over-officious jerk. Levy turns 100 today. A Pro Football Hall of Famer, Levy's coaching career began 74 years ago, at St. Louis Country Day School in 1951. He landed in the college ranks with Coe in 1953. He was then hired as an assistant at New Mexico in 1954. Four years later, he became the head coach. After two years, he landed as the head coach at Cal. Four years later, he became the head coach at William & Mary. He arrived in the NFL as the Eagles' kicking coach in 1969. A year later, he was hired to coach the rest of the special teams, with the Rams. A year later, he went to Washington. His final game there was Super Bowl VII, where his unit accounted for the only points in a 14-7 loss to the 17-0 Dolphins. The CFL came calling in 1973; Levy took a job as head coach of the Montreal Alouettes. Five seasons (and two Grey Cups) north of the border opened the door for Levy to become an NFL head coach, with the Chiefs. He spent 1983 out of coaching before leading the Chicago Blitz of the USFL in 1984. After another year off, Levy was hired by the Bills. Which took his coaching career to new heights. Four straight Super Bowls. A spot in Canton. He'd stay with the Bills through 1997. Nine years later, he returned as the General Manager — at the age of 81. He spent two seasons in that role. Levy ranks 26th on the all-time wins list, with a record of 143-112 in 17 seasons.
