NIA Takes Over Probe into Murder of Hindu Activist Suhas Shetty in Bajpe

Hans India21 hours ago

Mangaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formally taken over the investigation into the brutal murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty, who was hacked to death in broad daylight in Bajpe town on May 1. The central agency's team reached Mangaluru earlier this week and has initiated preliminary groundwork.
Mangaluru Police have officially confirmed the arrival of the NIA team, led by DSP Pawan Kumar. The team has met with City Crime Branch (CCB) officers to collect case-related documents and briefings. The Union government had transferred the case to the NIA following pressure from BJP leaders, particularly Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, who had written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a central agency probe.
The NIA investigation may also include charge of collision of officials in aiding the murder of Suhas Shetty, which the Karnataka government was wary about. It is stated by the BJP leaders that a certain police official had checked the car of Suhas Shetty twice on the day he was murdered, the checks had been carried out twice within a span of few hours to ensure that Shetty and his co passengers in the car had no weapons.
Initial investigations by the local police had pointed to the involvement of a group of eight Muslim youths, allegedly affiliated with the banned organisation Popular Front of India (PFI). The calculated nature of the attack and the possible ideological motivation behind the killing raised concerns about a broader conspiracy.
The NIA is likely to revisit the evidence and re-examine the suspects in custody. It may also explore whether provisions under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) are applicable if firm links to proscribed outfits are established. There are also reports suggesting that the agency will look into possible lapses by certain local police personnel.
With the NIA's entry, the case is set to widen in scope, potentially extending beyond the immediate assailants to uncover a larger network, if any, behind the murder.

NIA charges 3 in 2024 police post grenade attack case in Punjab, links to banned KZF terror outfit found

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet on Saturday, June 14, 2025, against three accused in connection with a 2024 case about a grenade attack at a police post in SBS Nagar district of Punjab, NIA said in a statement on Sunday, June 15, 2025. The case has been linked to a conspiracy by the banned Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) terror outfit, it added. The three accused individuals, Yugpreet Singh, Jaskaran Singh, and Harjot Singh are from Rahon village in SBS Nagar. They have been charged under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,the Explosive Substances Act, and other related provisions. NIA has also initiated a probe against KZF chief and 'Designated Individual Terrorist' Ranjit Singh, another outfit member Jagjit Singh Lahiri, who is currently in the United Kingdom and other unidentified terror operatives. 'NIA is continuing with its investigation in the case as part of its efforts to destroy KFZ's attempts to carry out terror attacks at law enforcement establishments and sensitive installations, as well as targeted killings in the state of Punjab,' the statement read. The case was taken over by the NIA from the Punjab Police in March this year. During its investigation, the agency found that Jagga had recruited Yugpreet Singh through an acquaintance in the UK. He then radicalised Yugpreet along with other KZF members and communicated with him through encrypted messaging applications. Yugpreet was also given more than ₹ 4.36 lakh of terror funds through a complex chain of Canada-based entities by Jagga. These entities have been identified and examined, NIA stated. Further, Yugpreet recruited the other two accused in the case. Three of them attacked the Police Post Asron during the night between December 1, 2024 and December 2, 2024. The three accused were given the grenade by their handlers based abroad earlier in November 2024.

Bengaluru Rapido auto-rickshaw driver attempts to steal money from customer's purse, viral video sparks outrage: ‘He should be punished'

A video of a woman confronting a Rapido auto-rickshaw driver after he attempted to steal money from her purse has sparked outrage on social media. Janhavi Kshatriyas, a model and fashion designer, shared the video on her Instagram, sharing details of the incident. In a lengthy post, Kshatriyas shared that the auto-rickshaw driver kept looking at her through the rear-view camera during the ride. When asked if she could pay him before the ride ended, as her mobile phone's battery was about to run out, he agreed. Things turned suspicious when he commented on her religion. 'When we passed a Hanuman big statue and I instinctively folded my hands in prayer, he asked in a mocking tone: 'Oh, you pray? Are you Hindu?' I replied yes, and he retorted, 'You don't look like one.' I stayed calm, though that comment crossed a line,' she wrote. Further, Kshatriyas asked the auto-rickshaw driver to stop at a local shop as she had to buy coffee powder. When she returned from the shop, she saw the driver unzipping her handbag in an attempt to steal. 'I caught the driver red-handed trying to open the front zip of my handbag. My money was stuck in the zip, and he was struggling to take it out. He didn't realize I was standing right behind him, watching everything,' she said. 'When I confronted him, he nervously claimed he was 'trying to move the bag behind to keep it safe' and even tried to blame a random girl nearby for trying to steal it – despite the fact that I saw him with my own eyes. I even asked the girl to confirm and explained everything to her in public,' Kshatriyas shared. Along with the post, she shared a video revealing the driver's identity and his vehicle number. Watch the video here: A post shared by Janhavi Kshatriyas⚔️ (@janhavi_jaan_official) After the video went viral, Rapido issued an apology, promising to investigate the matter. 'Hi Janhavi, we sincerely apologize on behalf of the captain for his irresponsible behavior. This is certainly not the kind of experience we strive to provide. At Rapido, customer safety is our highest priority, and we have a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of inappropriate conduct. We kindly request your patience as we investigate this matter thoroughly and provide further assistance regarding this,' the company responded. Several social media users condemned the incident, demanding strict action against the driver. 'He should be punished,' a user wrote. 'Government should take action on auto drivers they are creating ruscus in city,' another user commented.
