PwC Middle East's ‘Future Ready MENA' report, calls for investment in entrepreneurial skills to unlock youth potential

The report also highlights the importance of mentorship, noting that small business survival rates double when guided by experienced mentors. Mastery of emerging technologies such as AI and digital platforms is seen as critical to future readiness, particularly as over a billion jobs globally are expected to be disrupted by 2030. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - PwC Middle East has released a new repor titled "Why entrepreneurial capabilities are key to empowering MENA's youth', spotlighting the urgent need to equip MENA's youth with the skills, behaviours and traits that drive entrepreneurial success. The report's framework is rooted in insights from 19 interviews with entrepreneurs and leaders across government, education and private sectors, including founders of high-growth startups, policymakers from the UAE Ministry of Economy, and executives from tech firms like Talabat, Augustus Media and Ogilvy. The recommendations are designed to help governments, educators and businesses act decisively and collaboratively. With people under 25 making up nearly half of the MENA population and youth unemployment at 24%, the report calls for a bold shift in how the region nurtures talent, fosters innovation and drives inclusive economic transformation. The report identifies four priority strategies: structured entrepreneurship education, mentorship ecosystems, technological proficiency, and female empowerment, each essential to strengthening the region's entrepreneurial pipeline. "Entrepreneurial capabilities are a driving resilience, innovation, and long-term relevance in the MENA region. By strategically investing in youth, inclusive innovation ecosystems, and future-focused skills today, we are addressing regional challenges and laying the foundation for global leadership across industries from AI and sustainability to digital transformation and beyond. This transformation will benefit from extensive collaboration between governments, the private sector, academia, and civil society to create an environment where entrepreneurship can thrive,' said Roland Hancock, Middle East Education Practice Leader, PwC Middle East. The report reveals that developing entrepreneurial capabilities in MENA must go far beyond traditional business training, with a focus on adaptability, creativity, problem-solving and fluency in emerging technologies. The report also highlights success stories such as Talabat, Tamara, Swvl, and Tabby, which demonstrate how digitally native business models can scale rapidly when built on a foundation of entrepreneurial agility and technological competence. The report urges regional leaders to treat entrepreneurship as a strategic engine for job creation, innovation and competitiveness. As the world transitions into a knowledge-based, digital economy, equipping MENA's youth with the right entrepreneurial capabilities could unlock unprecedented economic and social dividends. Oman: S&P assigns OQ investment-grade rating

Muscat – S&P Global Ratings has assigned OQ, Oman's international integrated energy group, an investment-grade rating of 'BBB-' on the global scale issuer credit rating, and a 'gcAA-' rating on the GCC regional scale, both with a stable outlook. In its rating action statement, S&P stated that OQ benefits from vertical integration across the hydrocarbon value chain, upstream access to new blocks in Oman, leading positions in domestic refining and gas transmission, and strong backing from its sole shareholder, the Government of Oman. S&P noted that the stable outlook reflects its expectation that OQ's integrated business model and prudent balance sheet management through 2025–2026 will enable the company to withstand any potential impact on its credit metrics, even in a weaker market environment. 'OQ's business risk profile is balanced by the concentration of its assets in Oman, its medium-sized scale of operations, and its exposure to the volatility of the hydrocarbon industry,' the agency said. S&P acknowledged that over the past three years, OQ has significantly reduced its debt by utilising operating cash flow and proceeds from the divestment of non-core assets and stakes in subsidiaries. The agency added, 'We expect OQ's credit metrics to remain strong over the next two years, despite unfavourable oil prices and refining margins, with funds from operations (FFO) to debt of 50%–53% in 2025 and 54%–57% in 2026.' In a social media post, OQ Group stated that the investment-grade rating from S&P reflects confidence in the group's integrated business model, prudent financial management, and strategic importance to Oman's energy sector. 'S&P's assessment highlights OQ's strong liquidity position, disciplined capital structure, and key role in supporting Oman's economic diversification and energy transition under Vision 2040. This first-time public rating from S&P affirms OQ's position as a national energy leader committed to long-term resilience and value creation,' OQ said.

Oman: SalamAir expands fleet with new Airbus A321neo aircraft

Muscat – SalamAir, the Sultanate of Oman's budget carrier, has announced the arrival of its newest Airbus A321neo aircraft, named 'Mutrah' after a public vote by guests and followers on Instagram. The arrival of this aircraft brings SalamAir's fleet to 14 aircraft, underscoring its ongoing commitment to enhancing operational efficiency, improving customer experience, and reducing the environmental impact of its operations. The aircraft features advanced, highly efficient CFM LEAP-1A engines, which contribute to a 20% reduction in fuel consumption per seat and significantly reduced carbon dioxide emissions. The aircraft also complies with global environmental standards, achieving a 50% reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and a noise reduction of more than 15 decibels compared to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standard. The aircraft features 212 seats with a modern interior design, including USB charging ports in every seat, allowing our valued customers to enjoy a comfortable and smooth travel experience. The aircraft's operational range reaches 4,000 nautical miles, giving Salam Air greater flexibility in operating medium- and long-haul flights. 'The addition of the new A321neo to our fleet is an important step in enhancing our operational capacity in preparation for the peak season,' said Adrian Hamilton Mans, CEO of SalamAir . 'This aircraft gives us greater operational flexibility, enhances our ability to meet flight schedules, and improves our operational KPI.' He added, 'With the addition of this aircraft and another expected later this month, our average fleet age will be reduced from 5.6 years to approximately 4.8 years, making us one of the youngest airlines in the region. This is in line with our strategy of focusing on enhancing operational efficiency and reliability, while delivering added value to our guests.' The addition of the A321neo aircraft further strengthens SalamAir's comprehensive strategy, which focuses on fleet modernization, network expansion, and operational efficiency. With a newer, more efficient fleet, the airline is fully prepared to explore new markets, increase flight frequencies to high-demand destinations, and further contribute to the growth of the aviation and tourism sectors in the Sultanate of Oman.
