People Are Coming To Pedro Pascal's Defense After Some Suspicious Backlash Against Him And Vanessa Kirby

If you have the profound displeasure of still being on X, you may have noticed a number of posts that essentially try to say that Pedro touches his female costars inappropriately as a way to soothe his "anxiety" — with a lot of focus on his Fantastic Four promotional tour with costar Vanessa Kirby. One of the videos of the pair was even flagged for containing an AI distortion.
The posts twist what Pedro said about anxiety in a recent Men's Health interview: "I was always one to reach out when I'm facing something that is challenging or making me anxious...I definitely kind of stopped doing that, and instead I'm doomscrolling, or looking for something to watch; looking for different ways to disassociate from the feeling I'm having. And then, when it started to feel so critical, I had to go back to what was always the comfort for me in life, which was engagement in my relationships, my friendships, and conversation and shared experience." Touching, of women or otherwise, was not mentioned.
The backlash further devolved into vitriolic, offensive posts about Bella Ramsey, with one post with 255k likes reading, "How come Pedro Pascal never gets anxiety around Bella Ramsey?"

Similarly, others suggested that Pedro is not physically close with his male costars, which is demonstrably false (if anything, you could argue he is more physical with his male costars).

It's actually not the first time similar jabs have been made at Pedro. As Vanity Fair noted, defenders of J.K. Rowling used a clip of Vanessa and Pedro at Comic-Con to suggest something untoward was happening after Pedro criticized the author for her anti-trans views. But Vanessa herself then said of them holding hands at the event, "What happened is we were both incredibly nervous going out in front of thousands of people who love this comic. He wanted me to know that we were in this together, and I found it a lovely gesture and was very glad to squeeze his hand back.'

The conversation has seeped onto Instagram, where a quick look at Pedro's comment section reveals a lot of spam-like behavior:
Of course, what the "groping" posts fail to acknowledge is that touching in and of itself isn't an issue; it's consent (or lack of it). There's nothing to suggest that Pedro's costars feel anything but comfortable around him.
It got to the point where Pedro's fellow Marvel actor, Simu Liu, posted seemingly in defense of him:
Related:
It's worth noting that the effectiveness of the attacks on Pedro's reputation were quickly questioned by many:
Some even speculated that bots might be driving the negative posts:
Given that many accounts posting negative things about Pedro contained other sexist or anti-trans content, you might be asking...why? That's not clear right now, but it's worth noting that Pedro has been outspoken about trans rights and Palestine, and he is firmly against Donald Trump.
Now, if only people came to women's defense like this...

'Fantastic Four' stretches lead to 2nd week at N.America box office
"The Fantastic Four: First Steps," Disney's debut of the rebooted Marvel Comics franchise, continued to outperform the competition for a second straight weekend at the North American box office, industry estimates showed Sunday. Actor-of-the-moment Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Emmy-winner Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn star as the titular team of superheroes, who must save a retro-futuristic world from the evil Galactus. The film pulled in an estimated $40 million in the Friday-through-Sunday period, a 66 percent drop from the prior weekend, for a two-week global total of $368 million. Universal's family-friendly animation sequel "The Bad Guys 2," about a squad of goofy animal criminals actually doing good in their rebranded lives, debuted in second spot, earning $22.2 million. "This is a good opening for an animation follow-up sequel," said David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research. The film edged out Paramount's reboot of "Naked Gun," a slapstick comedy starring Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr, son of the bumbling police lieutenant from the original 1980s movie and related television series "Police Squad!" It pulled in $17 million in its opening weekend. "Superman," the latest big-budget action film featuring the iconic superhero from Warner Bros. and DC Studios, slipped from second to fourth at $13.9 million, Exhibitor Relations said. That puts the global take of the film, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, at $551 million. "Jurassic World: Rebirth" -- the latest installment in the blockbuster dinosaur saga -- finished in fifth place with $8.7 million. Its worldwide total stands at $765 million after five weeks in theaters. Independent horror film "Together," which premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Neon, claimed sixth spot in its debut weekend with $6.8 million. "This is a very good opening for an indie horror pic," Gross said. Rounding out the top 10 were: "F1: The Movie" ($4.1 million) "I Know What You Did Last Summer" ($2.7 million) "Smurfs" ($1.8 million) "How to Train Your Dragon ($1.4 million) bur-mlm/des

‘Superman' Is About To Break A 17-Year-Old DC Curse
Box office hounds are currently looking at the horse race between Superman and Fantastic Four, the former of which will apparently top the latter unless some dramatic shift takes place in the imminent future. It's not just a 'win' for DC and the new DCU, it's something that goes well beyond that. If this happens with Superman, and it's almost certain it's about to, this will be the first time a DC movie was the highest-grossing comic book movie of a given year since 2008. Can you guess what that was? Yep, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. Of course, 2008 was also when the MCU began with Iron Man. The DCEU did not kick off until 2013 with Man of Steel, but in that five year gap there was nothing that topped Marvel (even The Dark Knight Rises), and even the biggest DCEU movie, Aquaman, did not beat out Marvel's big entry that year, Avengers: Infinity War (of course it didn't). What's the full list? I think it's interesting to take a look at. I'm going to start at 2006 just to give a frame of reference (the previous two years were Marvel too, naturally): Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond, this trend is unlikely to continue. If it hits its release date, the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day is likely to crush Supergirl at the box office. After that, there are two Avengers movies that could go up against The Batman Part II one of those years, but I don't think that would beat either. Still, this is a significant achievement for Superman and DC. One that may not happen all that often from here, but with Marvel's relative declines, who knows, it may start occurring more and more. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.
